Mediterranean Restaurants near Sun Valley

“My grandson wanted Greek food for lunch and this restaurant had good reviews - all five stars ? So when we get there, it was located on the left half side of a gas station. We decided to park and give it a try. My grandsons ordered chicken kebab plates with a rice base and two sides. I ordered the gyros plate with a greens base, grilled vegetables, and marinated feta cheese. The feta cheese didn't have a very good strong flavor like Greek feta and the texture was smooth, not chunky. The tzatziki was tasty but the cucumbers were too big and made it hard to spread it. The chicken was tender and juicy, the hummus had good flavor, and the rice had good spices. The gyros wasn't like the usual gyro meat sliced from the hanging vertical rotisserie. It was more slices of gyro meat that was browned on a grill or in a frying pan; the outside was not juicy and freshly cut like usual gyro meat. It did have a good flavor. The other thing was when we paid it asked for a tip. We added a tip, never been there before and not knowing what to expect. When our order was ready, we were called to the counter to pick it up. The food wasn't served on plates with normal silverware but in to go containers with plastic silverware. No offense, but don't ask for a tip if you aren't doing anything to deserve one. I suppose we didn't have to throw away our containers but it didn't seem right to leave them on the table. For those reviewers that think this is the best gyro you've ever had, there's a dozen better ones than this in the SFV.“

“Wonderful, fresh and yummy meat, and great veggies (potatoes and eggplant). All was well packaged and arrived safely.They delivered to our house which was super convenient as well and included yogurt/cucumber drinks. Overall, great service and nice folks! We'll happily order again!“

“The little plates are yummy. I love the pita bread that came with the hummus (Salatim plate). The other plates were good also. I loved the bread pudding (I think it's better than the best cake). What I like the most about Bacari, besides the beautiful ambiance, is the friendliest staff.“

“This hidden gem is magical. You can't go wrong with any food items you order, and the staff is happy to help you find a wine to your liking to go along with it. The atmosphere is perfect. I really hope they bring back brunch, because finding out that was not a thing anymore was heart breaking. We gotta get that brunch back!“

“I've been going to Joe's falafel weekly lately. I've noticed they have hired some new staff. Before Joe retired it was mostly Joe, his son, or this one other worker that usually ran the restaurant. I've met four new faces this month. Yesterday I met Tamara and Marat for the first time. Both Armenian. Their customer service was so over the top that I had to upgrade my overall rating from four stars to five stars. I've never experienced this type of welcoming customer service from a restaurant employee before. Maybe they bought the restaurant? If they did, good for them! If they are just working there, you need to give these two a raise Joe.“

“Meals and memories are made here at Bianca’s deli. Bianca’s deli (est 1983) is a small Mediterranean deli cafe in East Hollywood. They serve fresh, healthy salads, wraps, sandwiches, panini and pasta. Furthermore, they offer good breakfast and coffee. They provide exceptional service and food. I came here over Lunch and ordered a Grilled chicken salad and a Pasta Primavera. Food was fresh and satisfying; portions were abundant for their modest price. Staff were assiduous, caring and professional.Overall, I enjoyed their service and food. I highly recommend this deli.“

They joined our tables together, and while we were waiting for our order, they brought us some quick appetizers. “TLDR: Food is great. Bit pricey but maybe worth it. Really really like this place! Food is great and will give you the feeling that it was made with a lot of care. Flavors and seasoning are great. I have tried the chicken thigh and beef kababs, tabbouleh, falafel babaganoush and hummus and I think the babaganoush is particularly outstanding. The service was pretty standard, nothing particularly outstanding just your normal "as expected" good service. Staff is helpful and willing to answer questions. The do not sell the entrees as a side meaning if you want an extra kabab, they won't sell it to you individually, you would have to order a whole other plate. Think they need to reconsider this. I personally do not fully understand this. The ambiance gives local spot. Seems like many regulars are here from the way it vibes when you enter which is neither good or bad for me, it just what it is. The bathroom is clean and doesn't smell which is remarkable I suppose. Parking is a bit more difficult since they are in a strip mall that's maybe a bit smaller than most but that's not on them. It is what it is. At least its free.“

Ordered Mezze Lamb Platter, Bocquerones Toast (avocado toast on sourdough bread topped with a hot sauce and anchovies) So Good, must get! - and a shepherd's salad with Bulgarian Sheep Feta. Anchovy was not fishy at all. If I was eating blindfolded, I would not have guessed the toast had anchovies. My new go-to! Service was helpful. We called our order ahead for pickup. Host was friendly and welcoming. Ambiance - beautiful afternoon, great So Cal weather, outside seating, friendly staff and beat lunch crowd. Delicious food. What more can you ask for!“

The pick up time was 25 minutes and when we got there, they were wrapping up our food.Average pick up time, if I may say, for food that good. “Every time we come here the food and service are excellent, wonderful chicken and shish kebabs...hummus is creamy, to die for, the pita is wonderfully grilled to perfection and the right amount of crispy and soft. “I contacted Misah regarding catering for my birthday party for 30 people. From the very start, Misah and his staff were polite, professional, and friendly. My wife took me to the restaurant for lunch to sample the food a couple of days before the party. Misah was very nice in person as well. The food was freshly prepared and very delicious. All the sides were good as well; the lentil soup, cucumber yogurt, and hummus. He offered us free desserts to sample. Their homemade baklava is so good. When they prepare your catering order, they cook the kabob close to your pickup time so that it is hot and fresh when you get home. They use very good quality containers for transporting the food. Our party guests loved the food so much that we barely had any leftovers for the next day. We will definitely eat at Chelo in the future. It is a small hidden gem in Van Nuys.“

“2nd time here and I let 2 years go by. I loved the rice once again it filled my stomach with love. I ordered the chicken plate and my taste buds danced on top of my tongue. The tomato was so juicy and I wish I had two of them. Onions and salad were my sides and both of them are 5/5. Down to the pita: it was tough to eat and very hard. 4.5 stars out of 5 04/15/24 Customer service: beautiful friendly people. The music inside was excellent. “This is an absolutely no frills restaurant with about 5 items on the menu, but they do them well. The monta (aka manti, mante) is the star of the show. Unlike other places that take a shortcut by using wonton skins, this place makes the dough from scratch and it really makes a difference. In addition to the baked monta, they also do a soup version in either tomato or yogurt. Their sou boereg ( Armenian cheese lasagna) is good also. All monta is cooked to order, so it does take a few minutes for your order to be ready, but it's totally worth the wait. Have an appetizer while waiting. You can also visit their sister restaurant in Pasadena, though it's tiny with only two tables on the sidewalk.P.S. I read some reviews saying that monta is supposed to be made with phyllo dough. Uh, no. I helped my mom and grandma make monta from scratch and they use the same dough you'll find here. And I was born in Lebanon, my grandmother was a Genocide survivor. So they know how to make it.“

“The team here is great. I had the pleasure of hosting a party here in December, they allowed me to book the entire place for the night with full service and entertainment. The owners treat you like family and make sure you have the best experience. Their pricing is also so fair, it's hard to believe how good it is. They were very flexible to what I wanted the party to look alike and accommodated as needed. I wish I had better pictures of the initial time of the party, but here's what I could find. The food was a hit with my guests, everyone said their kabob was great. I personally loved all the side dishes too!“

I sampled all three sauces. Mmmm so good. Especially the spicy cilantro sauce which was recommended by Hailey who took our order. And speaking of service! Hailey was very friendly and helpful! A nice selection of sides. They were not that busy so service was fast. Easy to have conversations. I would return for another meal. If you are like me, I keep thinking everything is so expensive, but I've seen some TO-GO only places charge similar prices as this place, so I now have a better appreciation of the price.“

“First of all I'd like to start with, I am a huge fan. Looks like a family owned business, small and cozy just the way I like it. You could smell the charcoal as soon as you exit your vehicle. I ordered the beef shish kabob plate and the grilled eggplant salad as a side. I have had kabob so many times in my life, at some point you can't really tell if it's Persian, Lebanese, Armenian because the flavors are pretty similar. Here, there was no confusion or questions. The flavors of Armenian cuisine are very pronounced. I loved it. The beef shish was juicy, flavorful, cooked to perfection. It didn't have any beef smell or aftertaste. I have to be very careful where I eat and 99% of the time I have kabob taste in my mouth for hours. Not after eating here. Even left overs microwaved next day tasted great. The portions are perfect and so is the price. They even had home made lecho. (If you know, you know). Everything was perfect and I can go on and on. Definitely recommend and definitely will be coming back.“
