I don't know what it is, because at face value the ingredients are just OK. But when you get that shredded lettuce soaked with vinegar and oregano, and the not quite sure what kind of cheese it is, mixed with a true sub roll and solid deli meat. It's a beautiful thing. “We had high expectations since all the reviews we’d read had been very positive. We were not disappointed. The apple salad was indeed huge and delicious and the tavern style pizza was perfect. Super thin and crispy and the sausage was glorious, not greasy at all and full of fennel seed flavor. Josh(one of the owners)took our order and chatted with us. He was extremely welcoming and kind. Even brought us glasses for the bottle of wine we brought with us. We also tried the Superman ice cream, which I hadn’t heard of before, that too is made in house and was delicious. There are 3 booths that fit 4 for seating and also just enough room for ordering at the counter and for people waiting for takeout and delivery orders. We went on Friday and were able to grab a table when we arrived around 5:30. Within 30-45 minutes, the other tables were occupied as well. We dined in since we wanted to try the pizza super fresh and hot. Wonderful experience and We’re looking forward to going again. Don’t miss out on this amazing pizza.“

“Went there for dinner. This is a counter service restaurant. The cashier was friendly and took our order quickly and efficiently. We were all over the menu; build your own fish sandwich, 8am burger, Elmwood park burger, tater tots, and onion rings. The burgers were substantial and savory. Two of our sandwiches had bacon, and it was good bacon, not fast food bacon re-heated in the restaurant. They cooked the bacon today in the restaurant. The Carolina Gold BBQ sauce was tangy but not spicy. The tater tots were crunchy and delightful. The onion rings were good but nothing special. The two negatives were that our hamburger buns were not toasted or grilled; just right out of the bag. One of our burgers took considerably longer to come out. We ordered right after each other, and one person was finished before the last person got their food.Parking: We lucked out with an open spot right in front. The restaurant told us the diagonal spots on the side streets were two hour limit, which was plenty for this evening.“

Grant here took such good care of us here. He was attentive, funny, caring and made sure he checked in on us several times. Without going overboard, he made us feel so comfortable; we are definitely asking for him when we go here again (BTW, it's been a once a month Monday dinner for us) The food; as usual, the breadsticks and salad, I don't have anything to say about as they are well known for this. The only thing the kitchen could do better is making the pasta al dente when requested. They seem to not be able to get this right at all.“

The food sits on a cart behind the counter with no one really assigned to give them to customers. We ordered at 7:30 (earliest pickup was 8:45!).
