My daughter wanted this as we were out riding the motorcycle and enjoying the weather. I had no idea what it was although I’d heard the name before. She tried to explain, it wasn’t what I was expecting as I inferred possibly rice bowls like a poke bowl.. sorta 1/2 way I guess? She was patient while I did the whole app thing for $5 off first timers, certainly an incentive for a couple minutes. Well, thank god I didn’t pay full price. Employees were little to no help with telling me what options there were, soft mumbling with the expectation I should just know, but that’s not even the worst part. I assembled a bowl, glass noodles that we’re average, good base I suppose, then broccoli which was cooked in or marinated in some very cheap sesame oil and idk what else, but it was not good. I followed with fried kale which really adds nothing to the bowl, skipped the pineapple as it was extra. Some shredded carrots, again heavily seasoned with idk what and then some kimchi which was my only excitement. That turned out to be a bust as it just tasted like spicy vinegar, one step laterally from Tabasco. Weighed my options on sauce while trying to be prompt and get through the line, ended up with the Gochujang sauce which I’m not sure I could even taste? It’s a hard play as everything that went into the bowl tasted like something else. At this point I finished it with the spicy chicken. Now as a foodie and non discriminatory eater, I have to say, this chicken, off the line, that I started eating about 90 seconds after paying. Was “almost” cold. It had that cold chicken out of the fridge texture, the kind that frozen food has. It very well could’ve been laughed at by a heat lamp, but there was no heat lamp. To be deliberately accurate, this entire bowl tasted like burnt plastic covered in sesame oil and possibly soy sauce. I wish I could say this was amusing. What was amusing was the toddler sized fork that I couldn’t barely use bc it was so small. Traded that to a trash can for some chop sticks, picked at this bowl for about another 2 min while my kid ate her white rice, chicken and pineapple with no seasonings. Lucky for her she wasn’t exposed to this wretched debacle of waste. I did taste hers, it tasted like a fresh ream of notebook paper. What the F$&@?? I was aware the general public was ok with eating “stuff” like this, Applebee’s has been around forever. At least they have a huge menu. This meal might be the worst thing I’ve ever paid to eat. And I threw about 85% of it in the trash. What a joke. I finished dinner by telling the kid, “you know, I would’ve bought you actual Asian food” my favorite style of food. Asian, from Korean, to Vietnamese and Thai, Japanese is amazing, Chinese… I’ve been using chopsticks since I was about 8…. I’m embarrassed for you. How absolutely repulsive.
