“Very good malt, reasonable prices. Outdoor seating only, under a large awning. If you're lucky, and the wind blows right, you'll get the aroma of the hitching post in the parking lot while you eat. :-)”

“We met George at our first visit here last month and he was the absolutely biggest gentleman and kindest soul! The food was absolutely amazing. I went with three friends and we all tried something different on the menu and everything was 10/10!! I would recommend anyone stopping here for a bite to eat! The wait for our food was not long and it was a perfect day to sit on the picnic benches and enjoy lunch!”

“This Amish-owned spot out in the country southeast of Shipshewana is a nice stop on a hot day when you want to escape the tourist crowd! Good ice cream, nice menu, friendly service. I like the pretzel bits if I'm in the mood for something salty. Portion sizes are very generous!”

I ran in with a young guy who needed the potty NOW, and I was on a tight time limit AND I was starving from a long day of appointments. They let me put in my order then run to the restroom with my little and when I returned they were ready to ring me up and send me on my way! Everything was just as I had requested and I got to my appointment on time!!! Great experience! “Good, hardworking folks doing a good job, despite McDonald's food being next to inedible. However, since the fast food options in Lagrage are limited to McDonald's, Subway, and Pizza Hut, McDonald's is the most affordable option.”

“I never expect much when pulling off the highway to grab lunch or dinner. Howe Restaurant is amazing! Angelo, the owner and chef, greeted us as we came in. He arrives at 2:30 am to get the soup going. It's a tomato soup with orzo and Greek spices - it's amazing. Try the soup!!!! Our server, P, gave us samples since we'd never heard of it. Our dinners were all fresh and delicious. Angelo said he makes everything from scratch. You can taste it. The meats and desserts are delivered from Chicago, he's very selective about his ingredients. Highly recommend stopping by the next time you're on interstate 80. Warning - it will NOT be a fast stop, Angelo is very talkative. But it's totally worth it!!”

“Its a rare occasion we are able to go out for a nice dinner and enjoy ourselves having 3 teenagers but when we do we like to try places we have never been! Tonight we chose the Backroads Tavern and let me tell you... we were NOT disappointed. A relaxing, scenic 45 min drive from angola resulted in the best meal we have had out in a long while. The cheese sticks were pretty darn close to "world famous" as our amazing waiter Chris stated. Followed up by the most tender waygu steak with crispy brussel sprouts and loaded fries! Not a single thing I could have done better had I made it myself at home! Drinks were nice and strong, atmosphere was pleasing. However... what made us want to rant and rave about this dining experience was the service we received. From the moment we walked thru the door we were greeted with a smile. Chris was attentive, personable, knowledgeable. He cared enough about his customers and the service he provided to the point we felt he had to be the owner! THAT folks is what makes me WANT to come back to an establishment! Job WELL DONE Backroads Tavern and Chris! Thank you for a very enjoyable evening!”

Between the cinnamon rolls, the breakfast sandwiches, and the omletes to the pancakes, everything about this hidden gem is worth going for.Parking: There are spots up front and spots behind the restaurant.Kid-friendliness: These ladies are excellent with children and make you feel warm and welcomed. The ice cream is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. The shop also serves hand-dipped ice cream with many different flavors. The shop closes early, so don't wait too long in the evening to visit.”

Love that the activity booklet they get with crayons has their menu on the back and our 6 year olds checked off what they wanted as their main, side and drink. Pricing is actually amazing too, about 5.99 for a full kids meal.”

“Sadly the new Clover brewed ice coffee lacks flavor and depth. In order to get it to old standards I've had to add two shots of espresso. Now my iced coffee is about $7.50. I'll be finishing my sbux card balance and changing where I get my iced coffee. Way too expensive and for less quality.”

“We had the pizza buffet, which included soups, salad, soft serve ice cream and homemade Amish pie. It was a great value. Although the pizza dough and crust were a bit on the bland side and the sauce was scarce, it was fresh, hot, and tasty enough. The salad greens looked very fresh. The ice cream was great, and the pie was absolutely fabulous.Both the exterior and interior were clean and up to date. We will definitely be back.”
