Koot’s was a surprise. It’s a large bar complex with many rooms. We enjoyed the karaoke area. Everyone was friendly. I had the Philly, Caesar salad and onion rings. All made from scratch.

After hearing about this place and reading the review from Roger G., I decided to skip the usual places for dinner and try out a new spot for a change. The Kitchen AK is a recent addition to Chilkoot Charlie's, a place that I wouldn't consider a usual hangout for me even during football season. The restaurant itself is not visible or even accessible to the public. You would have to approach the bartenders or one of the servers and let them know you called for pickup. The entire south side of the building is completely closed off. If you don't ask the employees where to go or mention that you placed an order, you may end up wandering around feeling lost until you find someone that can help you. The change in layout have reduced the seating areas to two outdoor spots, one in a gated/taped off area outside by the front entrance or in the outdoor patio at the northeast corner. Social distancing wouldn't be easy especially in the narrow cramped bar area as more people come in.I approached a bartender at the counter who became available and asked where the kitchen was located since there were no signs showing the way and almost all the lights were turned off giving you the impression they were closed. She ran to the back to notify the kitchen. The guy running the kitchen came out and gave me a friendly greeting. He led me through the closed-off areas through the dark all the way to the back to pay for my order. Again, signage would be helpful in this scenario especially if the bartenders and servers are focused on their assigned areas and not the restaurant. I ordered the Ribeye Steak and a side of Brussel Sprouts for a very reasonable price at only $20. The steak was a good size, about 16oz. and it was delicious at a medium temperature. The Brussel Sprouts were also excellent as well, pan-fried and sauteed with butter. The Kitchen AK doesn't open until 3PM, so lunch is not an option for this place. However, the food was great enough for me to come back and try some of their other offerings.

Possibly the strangest "restaurant" in Anchorage, it's mainly a guy in the back of Koots who cooks things. No signage I could see, so I walked in and asked a waitress where The Kitchen was. Being new, she barely knew, but eventually she took my order and credit card and had me wait in the back patio. It seems to be more cash oriented.I ordered the $13 rib-eye steak with $3 roasted potatoes and waited about 10 minutes or so. Out popped the chef with my food on a plate - except I assumed everything was to-go. Back he popped to put it all in a to-go container. The taste test: little potatoes were perfect and steak was quite excellent as well.Recommend you call ahead and specify a to-go order and tell them you'll be in the front patio. Bring cash - although Koots will ring up a credit card order.
