I wanted to take my Granddaughter to a nice sushi restaurant since in our extended family she and I are the only sushi eaters. I would get sushi rolls and share with her from the grocery store but we had to go into Fairbanks for a dental appointment for her so we had a day of having fun. They open at 11:00 which fit my schedule so I decided to go to Kanpai. I ordered a bento box with sushi to "share." It was amazing. I commercial fish in Ketchikan and I can tell when fish was handled correctly; it was. I had her go to the counter to watch how the food was prepared and she loved it. The chef was gracious and deftly demonstrated the preparation for her. My wife doesn't eat raw fish so she got tempura instead and it was excellent. They also gave our granddaughter special training chop sticks that she got to take home! To top it off, the chef made a koala out of an orange for her dessert! Did she ever feel special. I highly recommend Kanpai for a special meal. The bubble wall kept her mesmerized and the playing grand piano added to the fine atmosphere. All the staff were exceptional.

Definitely the best atmosphere of any restaurant in Fairbanks. Beautiful and tasteful decor, live piano music! Wait staff provided excellent and very fast and friendly service (I couldn’t believe how quickly they served us!) and they gave us hot towels when we arrived! Food was also excellent and delicious!

Been hearing this restaurant for a long time and finally tried it, and to our surprise, me and my friend got diarrhea after the meal at Kanpai, I ordered spicy beef dinner and my friend ordered the bimbop, wasn't too fresh, mine looks like stale bulgogi and my friend's only have some grounded beef in his bowl, service was a disaster, we have three service persons kept asking one after another about if we are ready to order after got seated in one minute, which was over pushy.... Atmosphere was okay, overall, won't be back, btw they don't give straws for water lol ? and food was way overpriced!!

I came here with friends veggie flying back home. Everyone else's food looked good and they enjoyed it. Bento box A, Bento box B, dinner combo, bulgogi and heat attack roll. I ordered the chicken kastsu, so not order this, it's fruits and nothing like authentic Japanese kastu, they paired it with honey mustard and bbq like ketchup, is side to be in Japanese gravy. Had i known it was going to be essentially chicken nuggets I would not have ordered this. If I was alone and had more time I would have sent this back. I'm giving it 3 stars since everyone else loved their food.

Came into to town to visit babe and wanted to check out this place. The presentation is everything and the place is absolutely beautiful!!!! Our waitress was super sweet and nice, i can't remember her name but she was just the cutest. We ordered the cold sake in 3 different flavors. The peach one was the best!!! Definitely a new spot to hit up.

Love the self playing instruments and atmosphere, the live artist they have is beyond skilled, the food is consistent and good. They have 2 no rice sushi rolls for those with tummy issues and they are pretty tasty! Generous portions!
