Easily the best samosas you’ll have, and incredible selection of curries too. Korma and kadhai are not to be missed! Good local beer selection too. Pretty lighting and bar, super quiet atmosphere so good for group conversation or more relaxed meals.
The best Indian food I've had in America, hands down. My wife lived in the UK and says Bay Leaf is some of the best she's ever had. The spices and balance of flavors are excellent. Highly recommend
Great food and kind people! I made a mistake when ordering online and ordered at the wrong location. The people working that night were really nice and offered to remake my dinner to save me the trip downtown
Loved our takeout experience. Ordered chana masala and daal makhni. Loved that they had vegetarian options. Super delicious and ordering was easy online with Apple Pay. This is our go to Indian Place now! Will def order again.
Bay Leaf is my favorite go-to Indian restaurant in Birmingham. I frequently order it for to-go pickup orders while on-call and am always impressed with the speed they're able to make my order in, friendly service, and delicious service. I find it very convenient to be able to order online. Lamb or chicken korma or butter chicken is my favorite with a side of garlic naan. I recently ate lunch at Bay Leaf in person and was again thrilled with their lunch specials. I had a lamb korma thali which was a lunch special that included a big portion of lamb korma curry, rice, naan, a lentil soup, a smaller portion of a second pea/onion curry, yogurt sauce, and rice pudding. It was all excellent, and I'm still stuffed from lunch 5 hours earlier. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly. The only con is that the dinner options can be a little pricy (upwards of 15$ for a dinner curry with rice), but the portions are large and you will not regret ordering!
The food was tasty and a good portion. They have lunch deals that are a great value compared to restaurants in the area. The lunch specials were even available on Saturday! The atmosphere is nice and the service was awesome! The only thing I personally wouldn't recommend is the rice pudding dessert. However, that is a preference rather than quality issue.
We will order from Bay Leaf again! We got a couple of old standbys, lamb vindaloo and butter chicken, which were good as expected. We've got a lot of gravy left and so I'm cooking up some chicken to add to it for leftovers tomorrow! Fluffy basmati rice, garlic naan, paratha (maybe I overdid on the bread). But the thing I'm going to crave and that will get me to order from them again is the burnt chili garlic fried rice. Oh. My. Got that with vegetables and ordered the Mandarin chicken as recommended. Delicious! Wish I had taken a photo but we did damage really quickly. Highly recommend!
This place is everything! The food is amazing and the service is impeccable! Jessica is by far the best server I’ve ever had! She explained everything and her recommendations were excellent!
This establishment is fantastic! I had the Bayleaf Kabab Sizzler. Tons of protein- they go all out! The mint sauce that comes with it is a nice, subtle flavor. Request 2 cups of it and dump it over the rice- yum! For dessert I had the Kulfi- pistachio ice cream with a red sauce. Light and refreshing. Pamela, the bartender, rocked it! She's great service. Highly recommend if you love good Indian food and a fair amount of it.
Went to the 280 location. Service was amazing. Anan and the other staff went above and beyond. Best Paneer I’ve ever eaten.
Ordered take out with friends who prefer Bay Leaf over our go to Indian restaurant. We had Saag Paneer, burnt chili garlic fried rice with paneer, and tikka masala with paneer. The Burnt chili garlic fried rice is what will lead is to return. The other dishes weren't worthy of us leaving our favorite Indian spot.
First dine in experience in Birmingham since spending a year trapped abroad. Happy to discover my favorite Indian restaurant opened a second location in the new part of town I'm moving to.Quick and friendly service, great quality food, and a perfect fit for the 5 Points area. Looking forward to grabbing more meals between classes.
From entering to leaving my experience was better than I expected. They made me feel like I was home. They made sure I knew what to order. The drinks are classy
I used to frequent this place for the lunch buffet. I don't know if they're under new ownership, or if they're just trying a new menu. I ordered a variety of items for takeout, because my go-to Indian restaurant was closed. The menu offerings were Indian in name only-- no authentic Indian flavors. Everything was pretty bland and not very warm. It was quite expensive ($80 for my family of 3), and it was so bad we threw out the leftovers. Very disappointing.
The good was annexing and the atmosphere was great but... the bar tender was so so. I left her 1 buck on $20 tab which was the one did and water I had. O asked for more curry and she began to trek me how it doesn't need they much curry she shouldn't be eaten that way. Ive had Indian food in India and native people eat a lot of curry. When she asked how it was I said it was good but I could have used more curry bc she never bright me more as I asked. Her response was, "it looks like you managed". My friend all looked at me like what the hell. She's a server/ bartender. Her job is to serve me good, drinks, condiments and shutting else. You don't tell someone, looks like they managed. This is why she was left 1 dollar tip. Someone needs to teach her proper serving. She's the one with glasses on. That was very rude and not what you come to a restaurant for. But other than that I liked the place a lot. My friends loved their drinks.
