Saw all of the good reviews/press on this place and thought sure why not. I just left about an hour ago and couldn't believe what I experienced. First off the floor is FILTHY. Literally sticky everywhere you step. The young lady who took my order looked like she would much rather be somewhere else. After I got my order I walked back up to the counter and said "excuse me about 3 or 4 times" to try to get a spoon but she never came back. The cupcake I received was very disappointing as well and didn't even finish it. It tasted days old. EXTREMELY disappointed in this business. There are much better cake/treat stores in Birmingham with MUCH better customer service. Would give 0 stars if possible. Consider this review your warning....

I love, love, love this place! Pleasant atmosphere, clean and the customer service was excellent. The young lady greeted me with "Hi, welcome to Cakeffect." and I truly felt she meant it. I met the owner, and she was the sweetest lady. I talked her ear off, lol. This was my first visit, so I only went in to buy 1 cupcake to give it a try. I went to my car, and started eating the cupcake, before I knew it, the cupcake was gone and I had to go back in and buy more. So yes, I went to get one and left with a 1/2 dozen and a pound of chicken salad. I will definitely continue to patronize Cakeffect. Did I mention I love this place!

This place is absolutely the best! I just left and the place smelled like heaven and very clean. I also had some of the chicken salad and let me just say OMG! The young lady was very patient with me and had a beautiful smile and attitude! She even let me sample the new punch they have, and it's on point! CakEffect is definitely on my places to go list!

The BEST cake I’ve ever had! They most definitely have a forever customer. We received so many compliments of how beautiful the cake was and how delicious it tasted. They never disappoint; and are super accommodating. My kids always enjoy their cake from here. It is also in a great location. My favorite icing is their cookies and cream with yellow cake on the inside!

Went and tried the cupcakes, glazed doughnut & brownie and when I say everything is nasty it’s nasty. I’ve tried two other black bakeries in Birmingham and they are a whole lot better!!

The cupcakes are delightful, amazing specialty cakes and the new lunch items are great. The chicken salad is a truly a treat.( I buy it buy the pound!)

I ordered a "8 inch red velvet cake for my sun's birthday from cakeffect and my experience was terrible. The cake sponge was dry and smelly the butter cream was hard like rock i think walmart or sam's cakes better than that. I have suggestion for cakeffect's bakers that if you don't know how to make cake go get some classes and learn how to make good cake and don't ruin people's special events
We used Cakeffect for our wedding and was extremely satisfied! Our cakes were exactly the way we wanted them and needless to say how good they tasted. I would gladly use this company again and have recommended them to others.

They charge you for using a credit card. really? Tacky that you don't consider that a cost of doing business....like I do in my business. Then, because of the convenience of the location, I tried to order a special occasion cake. They priced it at $322.00 which was OK since it was a special occasion and I wanted the cake. Then after all is said and done (I thought) they sent an email saying "sorry, but we are booked through the weekend on cake orders" I can guarantee that was the last straw. I ordered from Olexa's in Mountain Brook and got a lovely and delicious cake. She actually took and completed the order. What a concept.

I'm late posting because I thought I had to have Facebook to leave a review. I just want to say my experience at this establishment was terrible. First of all the staff was Rude! But,I guess a body is only as good as its head.The owner herself is Rude! I paid nearly $200 for a cake for my husband's retirement party. When I thought all was okay ,I received a call less than 24 hrs of pick-up that another photo was required to make a copy of his badge. WHAT? Not to say this ordered was placed nearly 2 months before the event and pictures were submitted at that time.Needless to say I was livid. Why wasn't I told this over a month ago that what I submitted wasn't sufficient?But,they were quick to tell me in no uncertain terms that either I submit a new picture or not get what I ordered & no refund.I guess they must have told the owner of my attitude & she made it a point to stand in the corner watching & when asked if she was the owner she coldly replied yes! I told her she had rude staff she didn't say anything. But as I said a body is only as good as the head.Now,to the cake.The patch looked nothing like what I sent. It looked like a bad printer job. Once, we cut into the cake it was okay but the closer we got to the center the cake started crumbling. This place was recommended to me by someone who had ordered cakes before.When,I told of my experience she was surprised until she ordered a cake after mine. She was not pleased & called to speak with the owner about her cake....She's still awaiting that phone call.Cakeffect...way to go with the treatment of your Stake Holders. All customers experience should matter whether Corporate or Regular customers. We all want our functions to go well especially, when you are paying these prices.Throw you flames, I know the truth!

I really thought the owner would be involved in making and designing my husband's birthday cake but I guess she only gets involved with high-end clientele orders. I will not be giving them any more business. For 120 dollars for a 10inch cake, Publix would have looked good and tasted delicious. The red velvet cake was dry and crumbly and the cream cheese icing tasted like buttercream. Also, the cake design was very plain with bland colors. I was so upset when I left there on yesterday! Also, when I reached out to let the owner know my experience with the cake, I was told that she wasn't available and would get back with me.
