What's the point of self-service kiosks if you're just going to get harassed by the staff for using them?I came to this location on November 17, 2023, & decided prior to entering that I would order the Impossible Whopper to see if it's really a worthy beef substitute. With no Burger King staffers at the front counter, I proceeded to use the self-service kiosk to complete my order. While ordering, I was given the option of customizing the sandwiches I was looking to purchase, which I did. I then hit submit & attempted to pay using the card reader also located in the front of the store. Prior to using the card, I noted the large sign saying that all cards were accepted at the machine, complete with arrows pointing directly to the machine I was looking to use.However, after inserting the card, a Burger King staff member comes out of nowhere to tell me I can't use my card at that machine. Odd, but okay. I calmly asked if the staff member would cancel the order so that I could recustomize the sandwiches and pay with the cashier.Hard no. I was told to resubmit my order through her.At this point, I was confused. I'm not a Burger King expert, but even I knew that the entire screen was filled with options to customize the items on the menu, & regurgitating the exact order on command without the prior knowledge of knowing that was a requirement would be extremely difficult. I managed to stutter, "I ordered mine special." Admittedly not my most elegant response, but one that honestly encapsulated how my meal was ordered. Apparently "special" holds no weight at Burger King, as it riled up the cashier, who proceeded to continuously badger me into ordering until I had enough & said, "You know what? I'm good," and left.This is another example of trying to navigate Phoenix as an African American. I attempted to avoid another racist experience by quietly & respectfully placing my order via self-service. Still, the sight of an African American is a reasonable doubt in these parts & nearly always sparks the curiosity of prejudiced individuals, leading to scenarios in which I continuously have the misfortune of writing about.If you're looking to visit this location during your MLB or NBA fan experience, I strongly suggest against it.Overall, this place is not the best place to go if you're of African descent.As you can see from my other reviews, I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately. However! At great personal risk to myself, I write these reviews based on my experiences so that others will benefit from the experiences that I have. I encourage others to SPEAK UP! Your voice can assist others in avoiding potentially detrimental situations, & as always, do your own research!
