My family immigrated from Southern Italy during the 20s. I literally grew up on pasta and polenta. This is truly authentic marinara spaghetti sauce. The house DOGD Chianti was also a nice compliment. Admittedly the pasta could have been a bit firmer. Is it a culinary work of art? No, just the way Italians make their red sauce. Sometimes less is more and simplicity is delicious

We had a fantastic waiter - Peter. The restaurant set aside a private area for us since we were a party of 8. We were very impressed with this accommodation. It was a milestone birthday celebration. The food was delectable. The service impeccable. Everyone was delighted with their food & wine. Thank you!♥️

Gavi restaurants have a log tradition of excellence in Tucson. Piazza Gavi is the epitome of this tradition with a wonderful menu of meal selections, an excellent wine list, great food, and attentive service. You won't be disappointed by spending time at Piazza Gavi.

Dinner disaster….we went during a holiday weekend so granted the place was busy. But 30 m for the drinks to arrive and 45 min for the dinner is not acceptable. The waiter was surely and was grumbling about “confusion”. The food was mediocre. Bread was served cold.

We've eaten several times recently at Piazza Gavi and on Sunday 2/28/24 the food was good, but the service was mediocre. We were seated in the covered patio area where it's quieter. Bread was brought to our table right away but no butter or olive oil. Had to ask waiter for olive oil and it took him at least 10 minutes to bring that. Another 15-minute wait to before he returned to take our food order. At end of meal we asked for separate checks but waiter brought a combined check instead. Were charged $16 for a glass of Chardonnay instead of $12 listed on menu. At that point we just wanted to leave, and the overcharge instead of asking for a corrected bill. Probably will be looking for a different nearby Italian restaurant.
This was my first visit and I was treating my new neighbors to a meal out at an Italian restaurant that I had heard was a bit pricey but very good. We tried to get a table outside by the fireplace, which looks like a great place to be seated, but it was already filled, so we were seated inside. Service was fast. After looking at the menus, my friends ordered a steak salad and eggplant parmesan. I ordered the lasagna and when asked about drinks I told the waiter I would like to have wine with my meal. The waiter forgot about the wine and I had plenty of time to talk myself out of having it. The bread basket was delivered and the pieces of bread were very bland. I've had bread offered at restaurants where I would go back just for the bread. This was not the case here. The food came and it all looked very good. There was plenty of steak on the salad and my friend said it was very good. I tried the lasagna, which is always an easy choice for me. But I thought the tomato sauce had an overpowering spice or flavor. When we were finishing up, we started talking about the food and my neighbor said that the tomato sauce with his eggplant dish was "spicy or something" and I'm guessing it was the same sauce on both dishes. I will also add that we were having trouble hearing each other because the noise level had risen appreciably since we had first arrived and there were people pretty much yelling to each other. Our check came and I paid and we left. I really expected to love this place because it is very close to our condo and it was recommended to us by several people that described it as a bit pricey but very good. It is a little pricey, but I will try it again someday, but make sure I order something other than the items featuring their tomato sauce (which is inhibiting in an Italian restaurant). The restaurant is very popular and always very busy, so they must be doing something right.

I have no idea why this place is rated so highly. Food is subpar Italian. Not bad, but also not great. Ambiance is not great- loud, poorly decorated, some neon, some vinyl. Meh. If you must go, eat on the outdoor, heated patio- much quieter and cuter. Entrees are large and we split one and then got hit with a $6 split plate fee, which was not on the menu- at least it wasn't obvious on the menu as it was a surprise for us. This is a very lame practice for any restaurant- you're offering no additional value and somehow justifying charging more. I'm perfectly capable of splitting the meal myself- for free! And $6 is ridiculous on a $20 entrée. I would never go back here and I don't recommend it at all.
