this place is an absolute scam! i bought a hoodie off ”essential’s” and don’t get confused because yes it’s a clothing brand and this is a restaurant. this restaurant embezzled funds from the clothing brand and stole $61 from me and the company. yes i was refunded $61 but i needed to bring awareness to this situation.

I have been coming to Gim’s since 1979 when Gim and his main cook were woking it up like they wanted to be millionaires! Best Chinese food in all of the S.F. Bay Area from 1979-2013 Hands down?? even Yan can cook visited Gim’s spot to give this place respect! So busy!!!!I come back in October 2023 and order BBQ Pork Fried Rice because that’s one of my Favorites. Sweet tender high quality pork nuggets, with fresh light egg, peas and carrots seasoned just right with a hint of fish sauce, rice cook fluffy! YumNope!!!Opened box and pork smelled of cheap meat market meat upon opening, The rice was slightly burnt, brown. Half a fried egg that was less than desirable and not fluffy. No peas or carrots. So half a cup of low quality pork, half an egg, 1 1/4 cups of rice burnt for $14.35And it was quiet, no phone orders while waiting??‍♂️If this is still run by his children I sure wished they would have been in the kitchen just a little bit more and caught those special technique's from Gim and his side kick wok man!I miss you Gim?You are the Man!Great Food you presented to everyone!??A Legend for those who knew….

Gim's used to be good in the old day's, but now it is just overpriced slop. It doesn't look like the owners of this business have spent a single dime on the building or any sort of maintenance in the last half century! The same posters and holes in walls since late 1980's! I don't even want to imagine what the inside of their kitchen looks like if they're ok with having their waiting area so dingy and poorly maintained. The only reason they're still in business is because they had the best Chinese in town for a number of years, but that is no longer the case. Their food is disgusting and vile and they should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to sell it to unsuspecting customers who don't know any better. This place should be shut down immediately.

I’m sad to write this because this has been my local comfort food spot for Chinese food for the last 5 years! I called in an order for takeout after reviewing the menu listed here (the only place I could find a menu). I went to pick up my food and the total was almost DOUBLE what I was expecting to pay. Whut?! The woman at the register told me how much each item was and I told her that did not align with their menu prices listed on their google page. I pulled up their google page which was still open on my phone and showed her the prices listed ans asked her to honor the prices they advertise online here. She told me the prices on here are outdated and costs have gone up. Ok. I understand that however I also believe that if you raise your prices then it’s also your responsibility to update your prices online to reflect that. She refused to honor the prices shown here so I told her I wasn’t paying her seemingly made up prices and I left. I really hate wasting food like that, but I’m also not going to support a shop that isn’t honest about prices. Sorry you don’t just get to make up your prices and not honor what you list online and then expect to keep patrons. This small shop just lost the business of a 5-year loyal customer for good.

Last month I lucked out in finding a Chinese take-out place still open around 9:15pm when I was on my way back to S.F. after playing some golf at Corica Park. I ordered their special meat combo fried rice and wasn't expecting it to be so good & delicious w/fresh ingredients and very well-cooked. They gave me a lot of food in a big carton and did not skimp at all on the meat portions like many of the other Chinese restaurants-takeouts do. I was definitely full when I finished the meal. And the woman at the front counter was very friendly. The only reason I didn't give them 5-stars for Service was that I had to wait a long time for my order. But that was b/c they had some big orders to fill before me.

I remember this place from years ago. It was our go-to for yummy EVERYTHING. This time I ordered wonton soup and was underwhelmed. Only wontons and broth. I would have loved a piece of carrot, a leaf of bok choy and maybe even a slice of celery. Maybe other dishes are still good here but I would not recommend the wonton soup unless all you want is wontons and broth. And now I have a stomach ache.

Wanted to try a new Chinese restaurant with my son; ordered fillet fish with black bean source, and com pau chicken… both were terrible. Fish was fried and too salty, the rice was half done; (how can you possibly mess up on cooking steam rice). I called and the lady gave me the chef who simply said “Oh maybe there was not enough water “, and no apologies.

I had picked up food here some years ago and remember food being good. Not today..I ordered the shrimp egg rolls that were just ok.I ordered the Mongolian Beef from the picture on the wall. Beef looking to be the main ingredient of Mongolian Beef right? With green onions slightly cooked with a light sauce. What I received was primarily over cooked onions (not green onions) and very small amount of beef. It looked like onion spaghetti!! It was disgusting. I went back to show them what they cooked for me. She said onion was main ingredient since beef is very expensive right now. Well…I paid $36 for egg rolls, a bad Mongolian beef dish and chicken friend rice that was bad also. They used the smallest cheapest parts of the chicken. A refund for the Mongolian Beef would have been nice. I ate part of chicken fried rice because I was so hungry and picked out the chicken for my cat to eat. I’m not a chef but I have cooked Chinese much better than this. Overpriced bad food. She did apologize and offered to fix the dish but I wasn’t going to wait another 30 minutes. Wish I hadn’t given them the $5 tip either. So for $41. lesson learned and want to save someone else from this place. I hope they get it together.

Prices not as posted online. Be warned. Add an extra 4-5$ to each item. I went there twice desperately hoping the first meal was an off night. As a vegetarian the veggies are the star of the dish. Unfortunately a mixed vegetable dish means bell pepper and onion here. Or as in the Egg Foo Youngs case, only onion. For a plate of onion and egg at 15 bucks, hard pass. One dish of desperation had broccoli. Those dreams were crushed by being overcooked as well. I give. Just was looking for basic Chinese with vegetables at a reasonable price. This is not it. The woman at the counter is quite friendly though. Too bad friendly does not fulfill hunger.
