I have no idea how to pronounce the name of my new favorite joint in Alameda so I've decided to just call them Phnomenal because that's what I think of their food. I've been wanting to try Cambodian food and was told that Phomenal was really the only place that would fit the bill. This place has enormous portions and reasonably priced, tasty and creatively executed food. Deep fried calamari: not breaded but even better. The batter was light--maybe made with rice flour?--and the calamari inside was tender and perfectly cooked encased in a crisp balloon of fried crunchiness. Traop Ang : Eggplant grilled and then sautéed w/ garlic topped w/ shrimp & pork skewed, a little sweet to me but savory too...a little surprising but I'm not familiar with Cambodian food so I won't even critique to make it better. It was just good, especially over rice. Slaap Moarn Borg: Boneless chicken wings stuffed w/ lemongrass spice, bean thread noodles, meat, black mushroom, onion & served w/ pickled cabbage. Been thread is like sotanghon noodles and they work so well inside this fried wing and the side of sour dipping sauce. I'm coming back to work my way through this entire menu.

Easily one of my all-time favorites in the Bay Area. I've been eating at Phnom Penh for many years, starting with their original, humble location in Oakland. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is incomparable - absolutely worthy of being noted by the Michelin Guide. Some of my favorites are the eggplant with ground pork and prawns. So unique and flavorful heaped over rice. The eggplant is creamy with a unique, smoky flavor. Off menu, my absolute favorite is simply fried, whole pompano with a side of house-made chili fish sauce. And then there's the grilled, lemongrass chicken. You can never go wrong with that dish. I'm so happy they're located so close to my house. I can eat here forever!

Delicious Cambodian food dating back to the days when they we're located in Oakland Chinatown! Angels are delicious here

phnom penh is truly a gem that has no equal. just the traop ang dish alone makes it worth going to but everything on the menu is really good. traop ang and sach chhrouk ann kreun are our go-to's but we've also tried the tofu with peanut sauce, the hamok trei, and the fried noodle and rice dishes - everything is tasty and the service is great!

This location is wonderful. I miss their Chinatown location for its convenience and comfort, but that's not to say I don't like this one. Everything I've ordered has been delectable, with dishes that are well balanced and luscious. The pork and shrimp eggplant alone is worth the trip! And the proprietors are the nicest folks you'll ever meet.

My favorite go-to spot. I often drive all the way from Richmond to Alameda just to eat there. Wonderful family business with great food and customer service.

Adding an additional 5-star review to highlight the brothers Ricky & Tai and their family. While the Khmer cuisine is already outstanding, what really makes PPH special is the intergenerational family who have been running the place(s) since 1986. While the original spot in Oakland Chinatown sits empty due to some stalled-out gentrifying project, the two other locations in Laurel and Alameda are run by Ricky and Tai respectively, and they absolutely shine with genuine smiles and welcome when they greet their customers. This is a true East Bay gem that deserves community support, I'm so glad that they've weathered the pandemic to date, and so grateful for the decades of lip-smacking Cambodian fare they've been feeding us!

Tasty authentic and great service. Gotta have the stuffed wings and prahok. Never leave without the beef skewers either. Well rounded but the sauces were probably a little sweeter then what mom makes at home.

The restaurant was clean. The restroom was too! I think it was the cleanest restroom in an Asian restaurant that I've used in a long time. The grilled chicken dish was delicious. The grilled pork was a little dry as the meat was cut too thin. The service was excellent!

Mom was craving some Khmer food and she had the day off. So we decided to head over to Phnom Penh House. I have been her twice and never reviewed them. I figured having my mom there would help judge the food. We ordered the following items: Beef sticks Beef sour soup Eggplant, pork and shrimp String beans and tofu Angel wings Amok (steamed fish) and Prahok Yes, this was a ton of food for two people lol I'll start in order. Beef sticks were very flavorful and tender. The beef sour soup was my least fav. Not enough veggies and wasn't sour. My mom plan on adding some more veggies and Tamarin seasonings to it. Eggplants, pork and shrimp were very good. It's a bit on the sweeter side but ask for hot chili. It goes well with it. The string beans and tofu were delicious. A lot of favor. We actually ordered another one to go for my wife. Angel wings were just ok for me. For some reasons it's a bit dry on the inside. Amok was good also. Must ask for fish sauce and chili to go with the amok . Finally the prahok was delicious. Love the coconut favor and all the fresh veggies. My mom who cooks amazing Khmer food said she liked it all except for the soup. Overall, the food, friend staff is worth a drive. The parking around the area isn't the best so be prepared for that.

Didn't plan to do a review but the food was so good here I had to share and put in last minute pictures. Skewer were gone in 60 seconds the bbq pork was so flavorful I couldn't believe it. Ate there before but today was 10 out of 10.
