Just out boppin around with my pal Allhans Ondek after spending the day on his fishing boat, looking for stripers, we were hungry and heading to the Speisekammer Restaurant for some Wiener Schnitzel. His boat, The Slippery Beaver, named after his ex-wife is moored in Alameda, and not too far from the Speisekammer Restaurant, Allhans tells me they prepare the best Schnitzel in the world! So, with a recommendation like that...I've got to go.And I'll tell you what...the Schnitzel was Amazing! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆

Very clear gluten free options on the menu! Service was excellent - they made me a custom non-alcoholic beverage and offered to take it back if it didn't taste good. Lovely atmosphere. Potato pancakes are amazing.

Poached beef tri-tip in horseradish cream sauce, only available for ARW 2024. Glad it's not on the regular menu. Very tender but too lean and dry. The sauce really saved the day, but only if you can handle the kick from horseradish.

Speisekammer is a unique and enjoyable restaurant in Alameda. The food is distinctly in the German style and the flavours and tastes match that choice (the mustard is really mustard - seriously, it's delicious). Plus, the best part of this is the large selection of beers. From multiple Hefeweizen, spaten, to lagers and more. Totally worth the time to come back and try the different choices.I enjoy spending time here - and the front patio is great, and the fireplace in the back is toasty.Definitely worth a visit or two!

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Speisekammer—they are what makes this place so special. From Hannah behind the scenes to Johnna, Kara, Liz, Krissy, Alex and too many other amazing staff members to name. We have come here for years and years and the low turnover tells us that the staff is taken care of and helps keep things consistent, familiar and inviting. Peter and Cindy may be passing the torch, but we are hopeful that with new ownership, we will be able to continue to enjoy this Alameda institution for many more years to come. Delicious food and drinks served by kind and engaging staff in a cozy, warm and charming German environment... what more can I ask for? Prost!!

I was sat by the window in the cozy interior. Lots of tvs show sports games on the walls. A bit loud from everybody talking, and adequate service. The menu was oriented towards pork and potatoes.I started with the pretzel and beer-cheese sauce and kleine nurnberger bratwurstchen, or little sausages on sauerkraut. The sausages came out in 6 with a side of Dijon mustard. They were sized as breakfast sausage. A snappy bite revealed a juicy, oniony interior. The sauerkraut was mildly acidic and sweet, and soft. The pretzel standard in tast, like others you've had before, but was enlargened and airy and pillowy. The chewy pretzel was dipped in a thin cheese sauce, and you should dip your sausages into it as well. The sauce was bittered by the beer, and tasted as if its cheese had been aged: pungent!I ordered the jager schnitzel with spatzle, which was a pork cutlet covered in mushroom sauce on a bed of egg noodles. I got the small size, which I found to be great value and well portioned - not too much. The spatzle and the mushroom gravy were the real stars. Chewy, bity egg noodles were made into a variety of shapes and sizes, giving visual and textural interest. The schnitzel was thin, juicy, and remained crispy underneath the mushroom sauce - very "porky." The chunky mushroom sauce was like a gravy cooked with large cubed mushroom. The smaller variant, compared to the main, was one fewer cutlet and half the spatzle, and no side pickled salad. I believe this is the right choice, and it's a great value at half off the original's price. I borrowed my friend's salad which was an assortment of brined vegetables, including beets, carrots, and cucumber. The pickling was short as the vegetables were sweet and tart. The few and simple ingredients distinguished their own inherent flavors. The jager schnitzel dish was quite varied, and very good.Good atmosphere and simple food to be found here. I'd recommend anything with the very substantial spatzle. If small is an option, choose that

Cozy ambiance and excellent service. I requested to be seated near the fireplace when I made the reservation and I was extremely pleased when we arrived and the hostess showed us to our table right in front of the fireplace. It made for a perfect dining experience on a cold, rainy evening. Our server was super friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and beer/cocktails right on point. Can't wait to return.

If you have ever been to an Octoberfest, you know that German cuisine does not have a lot of variety. However, they have done a lot with what they have to work with. The meatballs were fantastic. The options are excellent and the service was very good. My only complaint was that the spazel was a little gummy.
