The food is so delicious and the ambience is great. Prices are affordable and quantity is more. Actually I bought Biryani for lunch and kept it for dinner as well.

The food is really tasty and authentic Indian style. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is great. They have different varieties of Dosa's and Biryani. I really like the Lamb Briyani which was so delicious.

Went here for dinner after seeing the high reviews. The gentleman taking my order was nice but the food was below average and the atmosphere sad. Tables were clean, which was good. I don't recommend this place and won't try again.

I was not inspired by the food, compared to other Indian restaurants in Berkeley. I would skip the chaat; it is not at the same level as other dedicated chaat places. The masala dhosa is ok but I wished the dhosa had been crispy rather than soft.

Brief Summary: - Good portions, one dish fills up- Low-spice tolerance, mix of "not so spicy" and "I need some water"- Located past the North gate of the university campus- Places to sit and eat insideFeeling like eating Indian, we headed for Bollywood Cafe. The interior is like a narrow hallway and it opens up to a cluster of tables and chairs. The staff walks to and fro the narrow hallway to take orders from guests and to the lower kitchen. We took a seat inside. While we did get menus, this was served by a standee card menu, so we gathered around and chose what we wanted to eat that day. The staff was kind and helped answer our questions. From my memory, there aren't many places that serve dosa, so I'm happy that this cafe serves this dish. I ordered the paneer dosa, the masala dosa, and the vegetable curry over rice. For the curry over rice, we got to choose 2 of 3 different curry sauce options, so we picked the paneer and chickpea. The dishes came at different orders: the curry over rice arrived first, the masala dosa came next, and mine arrived last. I took photos of the three dishes, but looking back the two dosas looked identical. Speaking of dosa, they come with two sauces: coconut chutney and the other, which I don't recall the name but it tasted like very spicy pea soup. The paneer dosa wasn't spicy at all but as I was eating the pea soup it grew spicy. The masala dosa was on the spicy side, so I was able to take a few bites. The curry and rice dish was nice as well; not spicy either but this depends on the curry sauce -- and the person. One of my relatives has a higher spice tolerance, and they didn't think the dishes were spicy.I ate this during dinner time and we were starting to grow hungry, and eating one dish made us pretty full. The portions are perfect for lunch or dinner, so we were happy after we finished our dishes. Conveniently located near the university campus, I might come here again.

Look if your going to just fill your stomach with edible food that is tasting actually like Indian Food: go here. I got the combo meal with Chicken Tikka, Chana Masala, a naan and rice. The people who took my order were really nice, and it seemed like a nice quiet joint. Now to talk about the food in depth: They have a sign saying the food is fresh: it either wasn't fresh or their recipes for the dishes I ate were just really odd. The Chana masala tasted very bland is just kinda mediocre at best. I like a buttery and crispy naan, but their naan was chewy and not buttery. I will say it was cooked through and through though. The chicken tikka...it just felt off. I think the best way to describe it is take a Trader Joe's Indian chicken frozen meal and upgrade it a little above the quality of that. There was this taste that just couldn't sit right with me in the chicken tikka masala: it tasted almost like a preservative in frozen food but not exactly. The rice was good though and it wasn't too soft and mushy. If you want a definitively good Indian meal go to Momo Masalas which is less than a five minute walk from Bollywood Cafe. Here's my thinking: more than half these restaurants are catered to a type of people who in my opinion won't really care about the subtleties and just want a cheap meal. So that is likely why this restaurant has high ratings. I'd really say this place is just mediocre (like the Xpressions/Urbann Turbann Indian place on the bottom of the street).
