The service was GREAT all around, really friendly staff! Perfect location for our concert needs. The beds were comfortable, the pillows the right kind of squishy but solid cushiony. Rooms were different sizes, and even though we had the smallest out of the three couples, it was plenty of room for my wife and I. The elevator was a smooth ride. The Keurig machine and coffee was a pleasant surprise, as was the big panel to plug into the TV with different kinds of input. Our friends enjoyed the breakfast, and all of us enjoyed the bar. We're definitely coming back here and staying more nights, and recommended it to the rest of our friends for their next visit.Just know you gotta park nearby in one of the garages or rent a spot, because they don't currently have parking.Rooms: Really comfy beds, lots of power outlets. Neat little fridge. Bathroom mirror was awkwardly placed in our room, and that isn't a complaint but an observation.Safety: Building itself was secure, needing a keycard to enter an night. As you'd expect downtown at night, you'll encounter some homeless people and some folks who aren't necessarily on the same layer of reality as you and I. During the day, totally chilled out. At night, practice the usual level of Nighttime Urban Situational Awareness.Walkability: It's right next to Target, three coffee places, the BART, a bunch of restaurants, a parking garage, and a quick walk to the Cornerstone. Perfect location.Food & drinks: Get yourself a cocktail from the bar, it's worth the money. Our friends recommend the breakfast with salmon.Noteworthy details: REALLY friendly staff, all of them. The complimentary bar of chocolate and cocktail voucher was a pleasant surprise! ?

Only You

I stayed at the Shattuck during the Christmas break. The breakfast downstairs is not good. The room was good and our stay was not bad. You can hear your neighboring rooms but there weren’t a lot of people at the hotel. My biggest issues was I left at least 8 shirts and sweaters hanging in the closet by accident. When I called to ask if they were found I was told they would look for the clothes and call me back. I never got a call back and after calling for 3 days I talked to lost and found. They said the clothes were not found. Hard to believe when you have this many shirts hanging in the closet. I didn’t appreciate the run around and lack of follow up. I will make sure to double check the closet next time and stay at the Residence Inn when I go to Berkeley.Rooms: Rooms were okWalkability: Good location

It's historic, which means the rooms and showers are a bit small. The location is great, it's got style, and the service was fantastic. If you plan to visit Berkeley without a car, probably one of your best options.

They used to have this appetizer in the bar called “duck lollipops” that was to die for. Very elegant hotel and a very classy experience. It’s in a prime location with easy access to everything.

My experience was above average. I only wish ilthat i could have eaten in their restaurant. It had that dressy to casual vibe. The lobby and the rooms were very clean and cozy, and the service at the front desk, well, the two i encountered, noth were polite and had a great sense of humor. I would say my only complaint if a complaint at all would be the parking. It's kind of first come, first serve, but dont let that be the reason not to stay there. I will be definitely staying there again, with good prices, a nice atmosphere and hey, you're in Berkeley.Rooms: It's not huge, but it's nicely done. Almost like being home, but the feeling of being out.Nearby activities: Too much to list, but they have it.Safety: You got your occasional guy that talks to himself. But other than that seems pretty safe environment.Walkability: It is definitely in a good spot for wakabilityFood & drinks: I didn't try their food sure wish I did smelt good. But on the outside there's plenty to eat.Noteworthy details: It is modern to antiquish, just very comfortable, cozy with nice colors.

Great location, the rooms are nice, the restaurant is great. No parking there but there are lots nearby, just expect to pay about 20 dollars a day for

Very good customer service. I received a kind welcome and issue-free late check-in without needing to ask for a late check-in. I was told they hold the room until 3 am. The room was very clean and comfortable. Decent shower. Comfortable bed. All the necessary room amenities but no microwave or refrigerator (which I didn’t need anyway). I had read other reviews about issues with bed bugs, but those issues are in the past. I saw no sign of any pests anywhere. (Plus any travelers can easily check the bed bug hotel registry, where hotel Shattuck is not listed.) The hotel was quaint and quiet. Location was great, within short walking distance to Freight & Salvage, where I was headed. There is no onsite parking, but there is a large handy garage across the street. My parking cost me $36 overnight. Really affordable rate; great value for the 4-star level, especially on a weekend before Thanksgiving. I really liked this hotel and would stay there again.Rooms: Very comfortable bed with nice pillows and linens. It felt like a nice short-term comfort change from my own bed.Nearby activities: Many restaurants and shops within walking distance. I stayed there for the Freight & Salvage, which is around the block.Safety: I felt very safe. Room key is required to get in the front door after a certain time but not the elevator. However, the elevator is next to the front desk, which is staffed 24/7.Walkability: Walk in downtown Berkeley quite easily from this hotel.

Positives: Good location right near Bart station. Friendly staff. Clean enough.Negatives: Questionable maintenance. Room had faulty main light that would randomly turn off for periods, then come back on (both bulbs were fine); one window was nearly impossible to completely close; heater unit seemed to only blow cold air; desk drawer continually slowly and annoyingly rolled open against lap; chair hydraulics disabled or broken.

After a nearly lovely stay for a weekend it was ruined by Kendra who was working the front desk when I checked out. Let’s just say if you are a tall white man you will not get a good morning. How was your stay. How was your room. A please or a thank you. Im sorry to say I can not help but feel I was racially profiled.

Loved our stay here everything was clean and comfortable. The rooms are perfect.Only issue was the hair in the drain in the sink and bathtub, but other than that everything was clean and dusted. No mildew anywhere in the bathroom.

Not worthy of 4 stars. Each floor has about 50 rooms which gives you an indication of its mass scale. Carpet in the hallways and in the room looks worn. Room wasn’t serviced for two days: had to call twice for housekeeping to come. Avoid this hotel: the Residence Inn at Marriott is much better.
