This place has both outdoor and indoor dining. It is a self-serve restaurant so we went and picked up cutlery, crockery etc ourselves. It was around 1 pm when we arrived. On inquiry, we were told that kababs were not available so we ordered chicken karahi, chicken biryani and naan which arrived on our table in 10 or so minutes. The serving size was decent. The biryani tasted more like pulao than authentic biryani. The karahi, while fresh was average. Best part of the meal were the fresh, piping hot naan. The items are priced cheaply, which is why this place is still running but attention to hygiene as far as dining area is concerned will go a long way to attract more customers. The place is filthy and decrepit for sure. Owners have paid no attention to decor and ambience and while this is near UC Berkeley where the students may not focus that much on ambience/decor, this place has potential to attract a lot more customers if attention to certain minor things is made.

Nice meal but they simply couldn’t be bothered about additional instructions. Countless of time, I’ve specified my need for utensils only to be disappointed when the order is delivered. How do you expect me to eat the meal?

Pretty disappointing. I came in for an early lunch and it was a ghost town. I ordered the biryani and the rice tasted like it was one maybe even two days old. It was hard and clumpy. The meat was good and tender, but 90% of the dish is rice, so it was hard to enjoy the whole dish. Also the seasoning was rather plain, it had some heat in terms of spiciness but lacked any other depth of flavor from other spices or herbs. The charred onions on top lacked flavor and also tasted old.

I was walking past with my dear wondering where we should eat, and we decided to enter this unassuming house. We were greeted by nostalgic ambience which reminded me of the humble places I used to eat at when I was little. We were greeted with amazing hospitality, and it truly felt like we were guests and not just customers. Between the generous and accessible portions (not to mention delicious), and the perfect (and free) chai, I felt compelled to write my first ever Yelp review. Thanks for making my day.

Cheese-stuffed naan, great free chai, and the best Chicken Tikka Masala I've ever had, what's not to love! House of Curries was a staple of mine when I was in college and I'm happy to report that they are still delivering excellent quality food to this day. Do I only ever order Chicken Tikka Masala, the whitest Indian dish there is? Undoubtedly. But why deviate when it's just that good? My wife and I have tried to find an Indian restaurant we like here in San Jose but we still haven't found one because we always compare it to House of Curries and leave disappointed. I also haven't found another place that makes cheese-stuffed naan, which is an absolutely amazing accompaniment to any dish. At the end of the day, House of Curries delivers a killer meal for a great price, and what more could you ask for in a college town? Do yourself a favor and stop in to enjoy some excellent food and great service.

This place used to be good. This time the wait was too long provided the restaurant was not busy at all. Food had no flavor, the service was poor.

Came here at the recommendation of a friend who had spent time in Berkeley years earlier. The counter and seating area was quite dirty and service appeared disinterested. We promptly walked out because, if the front of the restaurant is so dirty and poorly managed, what does the kitchen look like? Yikes!

The food itself tasted fine to me but the place is quite filthy and there is never someone at the counter to order from. The place is kind of decrepit and seems to share an entrance with a sketchy motel. In an effort to find the person to order from i walked by an abandoned lounge area with a large dirty sectional couch and also another storage-type room with paper all over it.

Some great food !! Self service restaurants like all the other ones nearby (meaning you place an order at the register , get a number and grab your own silverware/cutlery which is all located near the register and grab a seat) however unlike the other restaurants nearby the restaurant actually brings the food to wherever your seated. Good pricing and lots of different options to choose from . The chicken tikka masala had a delicious sauce / lamb curry was made with boneless lamb leg cutlets and had a good sauce / chicken Karahi medium spicy was so good (favorite)/ veg biryani was special. Enjoyed all the foods . Good rate , high quality meats(Farm Fresh All Natural Halal) and good food.

Oh my, how disappointing this last visit was. The visit started of bad when I arrived to find out that my online order wasn't received because their tablet was down I have been here at least one time over 4 years ago, and it was pretty good then, so I tried it again. Big mistake. I ordered the chicken biryani. The rice was clumped together and had a out of a box taste to the seasoning. The chicken was very dry. This dish did not taste like decent biryani, in fact, it didn't taste like biryani at all! It was a waste.

Stay away. Horrible service, clueless staff. Only half of the order arrived after an hour of waiting. No utensils no drinks, after multiple attempts of getting service no luck just left. Will never be back again.

if you are looking for great taste and great value that is authentic... this is your spot. I got the chicken tikkah and a naan. seems like a bit under staffed - kinda a hole in the wall kinda jam - so adjust your expectations but the food is quality for me it was worth a few more minutes wait. No auto tip factored in, even though the food was brought out! For some maybe the portion was small but for me it was the right size- no complaints. Happy I crossed the street and gave this place a try: would go here again.

An order of two dishes and a lassi took over an hour when they only had one other table of people present. The lassi was essentially yogurt-flavored water - DO NOT order it. It was pretty gross and we ended up not even drinking it. The service was also not good; in addition to being extremely slow, they weren't apologetic or kind about the food taking double the amount of time they said it would take. It took them over 5 minutes to get us one to-go container. Poor time management, poor service, and the food is not good enough to make up for the bad service....

Super, super, almost inedibly salty food. The naan is great though, so it balances out to be a kind of ok place.
