Average food, terrible service. A waitress went outside and ABUSED us since we didn't give a tip over 10%. We don’t usually do the math. Rather, we'll just round up the last digital to 0 as it's easier to visualize, like giving 50 instead of 45, or 120 instead of 106, so sometimes it might be somewhat higher/lower than 10%. We later figured out that we gave 9%, so that's literally 1 dollar difference. If you really want the money, then you should note this on your menu & make it as a rule so that everyone can follow. If you make it voluntary, then you shouldn't complain about it, even INSULTED customers who don't do that because that's your choice, and you're supposed to accept it! We've visited a lot of restaurants with the requirement, and they just put a statement on their menu, like "we charge an 18% of service fee." And we always follow the rules!Plus, the waitress even said, "We now recognize you." SO WHAT? Are you trying to terrify us? Do you come from a gangdom? Are you going to spy us or even crime? That's so rude & ridiculous! Don't come unless you want to be horrified by such a beggar!

Chef Jin is a true sushi master, and it shows in each handcrafted splendor served at Kamado. I’ve been dining here since the year they opened and can say unequivocally this is my favorite sushi spot in the bay!

Food: Top notch sushi. If you want the luxury sushi experience, look no further. The chef himself studied and worked in Japan. Super intelligent man with a lot of knowledge about Japanese sushi. I highly recommend getting the fish of the day. It will blow your mind by how the fish melts in your mouth. If not, get any black cod dish. I get it every time I come here.Service: Awesome staff who hustles to please all customers. Cant thank them enough!

This is a small cozy restaurant that is ideal for smaller parties. My husband and I dropped in for dinner and it did not disappoint. Fish was fresh and my favorite was the fresh seaweed salad. Rolls and sushi were meticulously prepared.

Quick Summary:- Unique neta choices to try- There is a screen at the entrance that shows the fish options of that day or seasonWe visited here on a summer evening for sushi. We discovered this restaurant by viewing yelp and walking by the restaurant. I was interested in the uploaded yelp photos and how the menu screen listed the seasonal sushi and fish options. We arrived a few minutes after opening. The interior is wide and cozy inside, with a cool bar table side near the entrance. We were seated in one of the tables on the right hand side. At this location, it was difficult to view what fish was on the large tv screen, so we designated one person to take a photo of it. From the menu we ordered the vegetable tempura and the unaju. From the tv screen, instead of the omakase style, we picked the ones we were interested in trying, which were the tuna, ayu and the aji. The staff kindly informed us that they were able to create the nigiri set for the amount of people at the table, contrary to the general 2 piece per neta; very thoughtful gesture. The side dishes arrived first: the miso and the salad. The miso soup bowl size is larger than the typical ones, so happy news for me. It filled me up quite nicely and ready for the main dish. In between waiting, the nigiri set arrived in a beautiful presentation. They fried the ayu's bone, and this was so delicious! I loved the fatty flavor of the fish in the ayu's meat and the bones. The bones were soft and easy to eat, so I highly recommend eating it and not leaving it alone.Reactions to the ayu varies by person, so be mindful. I love fish, so this tasted great, but for my relative, who is not a fish fan, they mentioned it was quite fishy.I got the unaju box, which is a rice bowl with eel placed on top. This one was unfortunately not a good eating experience. The cause was the rice on the bottom. The eel was soft, tender, and mostly free of the thin bones. However, the rice was packed too tightly, that I needed to use chopsticks like a fork and knife to cut split the rice pieces into smaller pieces. It also required a lot of chewing because the rice was packed in so tightly. In all, the sushi was a splendid experience because so far, this is the only place I know, where we can choose fish that is fresh and unique to the seasons, without requesting an omakase.

Go-to favorite sushi in the Bay area. Fresh from Japan every day, no other compares. The fresh salmon in particular is the best I have had outside of Japan.

Easily the best sashimi I have ever eaten. Stopped by for dinner with a friend on a Friday afternoon. Service is friendly, quiet and a nice place even in summer heat. The portions are generous, all around. Come for the food, stay for the qualify.

This is a nice little sushi bar! The service was very nice, attentive, and helpful. The food itself was all at a high standard. The breading on the karaage and the tempura were both light yet crispy. I would have like to see a little more variety in the vegetable tempura, though. The fish was the star of the show. The toro (fatty tuna) nigiri literally melted in my mouth and was such an amazing piece to eat. The chirashi included shrimp, octopus, scallops, eel, and several types of fish. They were all good, except one of the fish was cut at a weird angle, which created an unenjoyable chewing experience. Overall, great sushi place for a casual/slightly elevated dinner. Tip: The screen above the sushi bar has the prices listed for market price items. I didn't realize before ordering the most expensive nigiri on the menu!

Don't follow the picture on the review. Order small plates and consider next orders.Kamado Sushi is located at the end of Berkeley main shopping road. And that area has many fancy restaurants. I decided to try this place based on their food images from Google Review.the atmosphere was ok for the look. But they didn't turn on the AC, and it was very hot inside. Tables are apart about 3 feet, and you can see and hear other's faces and talks. They have very nice servers. They are very friendly and thoughtful. The lady who helped my table refilled my tea continuously. And they brought small plates for sharing food between me and my partner. The food is actually, the bummer. We ordered spicy scallion, agedashi tofu, assorted pickle, and don-katsu. The spicy scallion was made out of some pieces of mushy fish stuff and mushy rice. 6 pieces of roles were out of shape and they were covered with small fish eggs. The taste was exactly some spicy mushy rice, it was not even sushi rice. Asian restaurant without rice cooking skill... it quite sad.Agedashi tofu was good enough, but they used too much starch on the coating, the texture felt like a jello. It was not crispy nor light on the coating. It is red alert that they don't have frying skills.Assorted pickle was worst. It was 4 different pickles but they were all same flavor. Salty and tasteless. Clearly, that shouldn't be on the menu. It was bunch of pickles that follows for main dishes. There is no special flavor nor treatment. They are just store bought fill ups.Don-katsu was eatable. But the bread coating was dark brown, it means they are burnt and overcooked. The polk was cooked well, but it doesn't have that fluffy bread coating with juicy polk texture. The sauce that comes with were extremely salty and has no flavor. And surely it comes with Japanese yellow radish pickle, and just salty. They seems very busy, but the food is quite sad. I'm glad that I didn't order sushi. It's easy to hide their problems. Simply cut fishes into small pieces and serve with rice. right? Sushi is more than that, definitely. The business owner should rethink about their food. Most of their dinner dishes are from $24 to $28(tips not included). They simply have too many dishes on the menu, and barely handling them.
