Viva passione! Il migliore caffè nella zona! This is the only coffee place I come to! I'm not even a big coffee drinker but every once in a while, I'll get a hankering and this is my go-to. It's the best quality I've found! What makes it even better is the staff are actually Italian! Finally!!! If you're looking for a true taste of an Italian espresso, coffee or gelato, come here!

Passione Caffe was the best venue for a private party, the three course meal was authentic and amazing and the tapas were perfect. Anyone wanting to host a birthday here should not think twice. Great venue with excellent, helpful and welcoming staff .

Do not waste your money on brunch food here. It does not match the menu description. Ordered the salmon and poached egg focaccia, which came out instead on a hamburger slider buns with a comically small salad. This was after waiting 15 minutes in line to order and 25 at the table. The good here is quite expensive for what it is. On the plus side, the coffee is good.

My experience at Passione Caffè in their gorgeous two-story, well-decorated café at 91 Shattuck Square was simply marvelous. The staff was friendly, quick, and accommodating and the food, drinks, and desserts were delicious! I highly recommend Passione Caffè to those looking for a quick and yummy lunch (or breakfast/brunch everyday), to snack and study, or for an authentic Italian coffee. Don’t miss out on the great happy hour/aperativo deals between 4-7PM! It almost goes without mentioning, but Passione Caffè is absolutely true to its slogan: “A corner of Italy in Berkeley.” From the food and drink to the atmosphere and the service, this is the only truly Italian café I have found in Berkeley! And that comes from over a year of experience living and traveling in Italy!

Besides the beautiful architecture and interior design of Passione Caffè--not to mention its convenient location next to Downtown Berkeley BART--I would like to point out some highlights on the menu. The pastas are all made with homemade, organic noodles and made-to-order sauces. The pasta dishes are so fresh and authentic! The spaghetti with meatballs, their only Americanized dish, is to die for! The pizzas also are also made with home-made dough and gluten-free options are offered. Try one with fresh prosciutto, mozzarella, and arugula! The fresh panini with Italian meats and cheeses round out the lunch menu. It is possible to have a filling lunch for $7-15, which is definitely reasonably priced by Berkeley standards! A serious final highlight was the artisanal gelato, made in-house by the Italian co-owner, Eleanora Cercatore. There are 12 flavors, weekly made with gluten-free options, that are displayed on a beautiful rotating wheel. The gelato is spectacularly tasty--I cannot recommend it highly enough! For your time, money, and fine Italian bites and drinks, I cannot recommend a Berkeley café more highly than Passione Caffè! Please pay them a visit soon--you won't be disappointed!

I've visited here several times and have always had a pleasant experience.

We had to stand waiting for a couple minutes to for the cashier to finish chatting up someone he knew before we could place our order. They have the food menu board positioned so you can't see it from where you actually order. The pasta portions are fairly small based on the price. Even with a very limited menu, they still managed to get one of our dishes wrong.

Great lively DT Berkeley spot. Wine, pizza, pasta, gelato. True Italian vibe, bright airy setting.

We came to the place on Sunday morning for some decent warm coffee and our favorite pastry Sfogliatelle but unfortunately they told me that they will not have that on the menu. We have to pick up some others which are almond cornetto and spinach cheese pastry. The Italian Illy coffee is a good combination with the pastry but we won't come back there next time as we Sfogliatelle seems the best which is no longer sold there anymore

Spacious and great location!

Best pastries, Caesar salad is excellent and the owners are so gracious and welcoming. They have a fun gelato spinner thingy that the kids loved.

Overall rating 3.5/5 Walked by this place many times before, but never stopped in for food! Saw the brunch menu and caught my eye, so my partner and I decided to give it a try. Overall, the food was ~okay~ and probably wouldn't come back again necessarily -- I personally prefer other brunch places in Berkeley! The prices weren't super high, especially in comparison to some places, like La Note or BSC, but then again the food itself was much more casual as it is a cafe. Honestly not even sure if food was worth the price itself. I got an avocado toast that came with spring mix, cherry tomatoes, and a little drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Honestly felt like the toast was simultaneously under and overwhelming. It might just be personal preference, but I like a simple avocado toast -- having additional toppings on it is fine too, but mine just ended up tasting like I was eating tomato toast :,( Which was unfortunate, as I love the subtle flavor of avocado and it is the most expensive aspect of the toast oof. My partner and I both agreed the potatoes were done very well though! Seasoning was good (not too salty, but lots of flavor), and the texture was nice too (soft and a little crispy). He got the omelette and felt that it was "okay"/mediocre (hard to make a Phenomenal Omelette for casual brunch). Ambiance was nice and a casual place for a quick meal/catch-up/morning newspaper reading (as it seemed for some of the other patrons in the cafe). Service was nice too! Probably a nicer overall experience as just your regular cafe to come and drink some coffee/eat a pastry, but just okay as a brunch experience.

Good coffee, panini and pizza. The cook has a good hand and uses fresh ingredients. I find it a great place to stop in Downtown Berkeley, with quiet seating, nice light and kind service.

Amazing place, excellent quality of coffee, and nice atmosphere

I've eaten in this location with the previous owner and the new Passione Caffe seems like it's very much like the old cafe. Your order at the counter, but the line stretches right out the door instead of past the posted menu on the wall and the display case for the sandwiches. This means that you have to know the menu before you get into line. I had the caprese baguette and it was fine. Free cold water available. Sat in their outdoor sidewalk dining area.

This is our regular stop for seeing shows at Berkeley Rep. Always quick friendly service with a good variety of foods from which to choose. Usually I just get a latte or such, but I've also enjoyed their pizza and a variety of their pastries. A single serving of pizza is more than enough for two people to get you through until dinner after the show. Last time I took advantage of their remodel and the addition of gelato.

It's great that the new owners tried to capture some of the previous owners specialties with pizza selection for example. Problem is that when you take over a space that had such high quality food and replace it with such poor quality food it ends up being a disappointment.

Expensive coffee but good. Food was sub par for the price. But that was only one dish. Kinda pricey overall but good spacious atmosphere with great outdoor seating. Good for doing some work and having a coffee.

The food here is fantastic. I love the spinach pastry in the morning with a cappuccino. They'll heat anything you choose and deliver it to your table. The pizza it's great after work with a beer or prosecco.

This is my favorite cafe in Berkeley, where I've lived for almost a decade. Really good atmosphere, the bathrooms downstairs are a turn on lol. Try dipping a chocolate croissant into a latte.

Rauf Adil

Berkeley's finest coffee place with options for sandwiches and pizza.

Best Gelato in town at a bargain price. Cost is $3.00/small and $4.75/large; they are delicious. Perfect dessert before or after going to the theater. Pastries are sold at half price after 2:30 pm. Their coffee is really good. Go try it.

Searching for a Sunday brunch spot for five people on a tight schedule in Berkeley is rough. After walking around to survey our options, we decided on Passione Caffe because there was no line and counter service is quick and painless. You could choose from a short list of brunch options or from the regular Italian food lunch menu. Honestly, from the looks of it I was not expecting much. I assumed the cafe was empty for a reason. But i think it was quite decent! I ordered a salmon and poached egg focaccia, which was actually quite delicious even though the focaccia appeared more like regular white bread that had been panini pressed. The toppings of tomato, caramelized red onion, smoked salmon and goat cheese were superb with the poached egg. This made me happy. However, it was $16, which I think was way too expensive for how much food I received. Nonetheless, this looked like the most appetizing item on the brunch menu, so I was pleased with my decision. My friends ordered pizzas, which also looked pretty tasty. I was surprised by the breakfast potatoes I tried that came next to another friend's omelette--they were well seasoned. If you're looking for a trendy brunch spot with fancy food, this is not the place. However, if you just want a nice place to chat with friends over decent food, sitting outside enjoying the breeze, Passione Caffe is a great option.

So apparently PIQ was given to new owners. This used to be my favorite place to study. It's different, but still a great place to study. Pros: -more outlets than before -more space downstairs -nicer furniture upstairs -seems like upstairs fan has been replaced with actual AC -better coffee (?) -cutlery station upstairs (yay!) Cons: -upstairs floor seems much dirtier & uncovered trash (maybe this is just a today thing?) -no more bread (not something I ever came here for, so I don't mind) -their pastry display isn't nearly as cool/full as before -Fewer tart options & smaller slices (the one I had was A+ tasty)

Coffee is quite good and the service is always friendly. Plus they take apple pay!

Extremely poor hygienic practices and they disregard the most basic food safety standards!!! I am beyond disappointed with them as I have been supporting this business for several years when they were PIQ. Today they committed such an egregious hygienic offense that I will never return! They tried to serve me food that a customer just returned as the wrong order. This is food safety 101! You cannot bring back food to the kitchen that has left in someone's possession, let alone try to pawn it off to another unsuspecting customer as fresh product. The food is considered contaminated at that point! I ordered a cup of tomato soup to-go. While waiting for my order, a dine-in customer walked up to the counter and said that she received tomato soup, while she ordered zucchini. The cashier took the soup from her and said no problem, I'll fix it. I saw them bring her bowl to the kitchen and then someone behind the counter asked me "you ordered tomato soup right?" I said Yes, but also had a strong suspicion they were going to try to give me her returned food, so I said "I know you aren't going to give me her soup?"....I didn't get a response, so either they didn't hear me or didn't listen but I watched closely and another guy grabbed her returned food, moved more behind the counter and put it in a to-go container for me!!! Are you kidding me? That is wrong on so many levels. They tried to save $1 by selling me contaminated returned food. They didn't know what she did with it, she could have tried it, touched it, she could have been sick, anything. I really hope the owner/manager takes this seriously and has their staff complete a basic food safety course. They are obviously ignorant to the most BASIC practices.

Terrible pastas. - We were walking around and looking for a place to eat pasta , we walked in and checked the menu, check the reviews and said, let's eat here , we ordered a lasagna, gnocchi and soup, terrible lasagna , dry, greasy, no tomato sauce on the meat ...gnocchis came in a casserole , so much sauce that it looked like a soup with maybe 6-7 over cocked gnocchis. Tomato Soup wasn't good either, tasted just like canned tomato. We left most of it, fini Nice location. Excellent customer service and crew, 5 stars for them but terrible pastas. Got a free mini pastry with a coupon from yelp that popped up while checking reviews.

We used to love this place - was our weekend coffee spot before we went grocery shopping. But truly disappointed by the quality of the coffee and the custard filled Cornetto we were served today. One of the most disgusting coffee's I've had at here. Hopefully this review will help them go back to the quality they had before. We still want to come here every weekend.

This is a fantastic cafe! It's an Italian cafe and they certainly do not disappoint. Great past, fabulous coffee drinks, awesome food! It has a great vibe for doing work, hanging out or meeting friends. Get the Italian pastries or a pizza ... either way you'd leave satisfied :)

Tasty soup; ask for a slice of their fresh bread as well. Pastries are made in-house and are to die for. Daily pasta special isn't as inexpensive as I'd like, but it's always very good (and the staff will customize it if you ask).
