I used to eat here regularly for years until they fired a guy for having a political opinion. That was incredibly wrong to do and crossed a line with me. I've never spent another dime in there since then. And to think: the ORIGINAL owner really DID stand for free speech and freedom. Berkeley's just a joke, now, and so is Top Dog.

The legendary Top Dog! A great affordable eat in Berkeley and always open late night. This place is a Berkeley and Bay Area classic. If there is heavy traffic on 80 west I might just make a detour to top dog every time. You must try top dog while in town if you never have. Especially all the glizzy lovers out there! This place has been around as long as I can remember. You will not be disappointed.

This is a tiny spot very close to UC Berkeley.I remember going there in the 1980’s.Today it is still as great as back then!The Bun for the dogs are for me is the added touch…and enhance the flavor of the dog!I wish I had one now!!! ?

I stopped in on a Sunday while I was in Berkeley to attend a performance. I remembered the location because I love hotdogs and I had been there a couple of months before But unfortunately, it was closed then.I walked in and saw A variety of hotdogs on the grill already and thought that it was ready to go. I ordered and it took about 8 to 10 minutes which surprised me and I couldn’t figure out what was going on until I was served My garlic dog on a perfect crisped Bun, with a nice hot, garlic, dog! It was cooked to perfection. Truthfully, I would wait 20 minutes for one of those now. It was so good and tasty. I literally bit in to it without even putting any condiments on it, and it was absolutely delicious! I saw the mustard and sauerkraut and added a little bit, and I have to say it was the best hotdog I’ve had in a couple of years for The best price too!!! I look forward to going back to Berkeley and will definitely have another one of those hotdogs when I do. Thank you very much for caring to serve a perfectly cooked hotdog.!!
