Cold rainy day in Burlingame, so went to a local spot close to the hotel. What a great place! Server Freddie was awesome, great sense of humor and spunk. Food was terrific, we just had Happy Hour specials but DELICIOUS! Highly recommend the calamari and fish tacos! Next time we are in town, Max's is a must! Thank you!

Guy the best place to stop and get your happy hour on. Look at this, I know it's not your bumping place your us to. Give it the old school try. Good place for the money. Where can you get food and drinks for under $35.00 in the Bay Area.

Pastrami combo was incredible, fries were excellent and crispy, waitress have excellent service, but the in the men's restroom, there was a stall that had feces everywhere--that's why I only gave them one star for atmosphere.

My family and I are from out of town and decided to try Max's of Burlingame based on the reviews. Unfortunately, our experience will be the first and last time we will ever go back. The waitress was extremely rude the moment we walked in and sat us down. Not once did we ever get a greeting, but just a "For how many?". At one point, we kindly asked if we could get a replacement of the same soda because it had no flavor and all we tasted was carbonation, and I just got a, "Why don't you just pick another drink?" with annoyance. Also, when we asked for an extra to-go box, it was not handed to us but tossed on the table with attitude. The food was bland and had no flavor. I ordered the salmon, which was way overcooked; the Jambalaya Fettuccine had chicken in it that tasted like dish soap, and the ribs were burnt. I do not understand the problem because my family was never rude but respectful the whole time. Not once when we said please and thank you we never received a reply of "you're welcome," "no problem," no type of acknowledgment at all. Being a waitress can be a stressful and demanding job, but no matter how much someone does not like their job, does not want to be there, is having a bad day, or even going through something personal, it DOES NOT provide an excuse to treat your customers wrongly. Unfortunately, I am giving a one-star rating all around because the experience was horrible from beginning to end.

I had not been to this location for over twelve years. Before that I used to be a big fan of Max's Opera Cafe in SF. Wait staff was excellent and helped to enhance a birthday dinner, including the birthday sundae on the house for my mother. Turkey Club sandwich was good, as was the salad. Shrimps in the shrimp cocktail had no flavor and were off color, plus the tomato cocktail sauce tasted like from a jar. Oh well, nothing is perfect. Live jazz on a Monday early evening was great and the bar/restaurant atmosphere was enjoyable and lively. I will return for a simple sandwich dinner with another zero alcohol beer, and to hear the jazz.

On the recommendation of a friend, myself with four others had dinner at Max's of Burlingame. Based on the meal I had, meatloaf, I would be prone to give it a single star. However, two companions did like their meals. My mealoaf was not good at all! The mashed potatoes served with the meatloaf were most likely made from powder. They were dry as the Gobi Desert and very chewy. Mashed potatoes shouldn't be chewy! How difficult is it to make mashed potatoes? I'll answer that: Apparently very difficult for Max's. The salad was good. The service was mediocre. I and my wife ordered the same salad. Mine was brought to the table. Hers was not. I had to signal the waiter. Elementary Restaurant Service 101: Don't serve one person and leave the other waiting. I will never return here. I can waste my hard-earned money more easily on Temu. Ambiance was average.

Ordered a corn beef Reuben sandwich. The worst I have ever had. Corn beef was brown, not red. Very dry. Also, restaurant let a man bring in his dog and sit in a booth.
It's okay, the interior is dated and the lighting not so great. The food is nothing earth shattering but it's edible. The chicken pot pie was a little soupy and the meatloaf was average and not very hot. Good cheesecake.

Love the matzo ball soup!! Soft and fluffy matzo balls, delicious pieces of chicken, carrots and celery, wide noodles and the broth is totally delicious! I have a cold and ordered two quarts of soup through DoorDash - best decision ever - I had some soup for lunch - took a nap and woke up feeling so much better - no joke! We had it again for dinner - my husband loved it too and he is very particular about food. Many thanks Max's - you are truly the greatest!!

Do not order the Cakes under any circumstances! Max's had great cakes back in the day but no longer. Supposably now made by Copenhagen Burlingame which is a fine establishment, however last 2 visits to Max's we were served slices so dry with no moisture whatsoever. Even the icing was stale. Guess they sat wayyy too long past their prime. I'm going to Copenhagen Bakery to report Max's is making their business look bad - serving old, dried out cake. Hint hint Max's....maybe improve quality control. There is no excuse for selling obviously expired products. And lastly, I NEVER send food back to the kitchen but this was such pathetic dessert serving that I broke that rule.
