My recent visit to Shabu House on Paloma in Burlingame left me with mixed feelings. While the restaurant offers some redeeming qualities, there were notable drawbacks that affected the overall dining experience.Let's start with the positives. The meat quality at Shabu House was commendable. The thinly sliced beef and lamb were fresh, succulent, and added a delightful touch to the hot pot. If you are a meat enthusiast, this might be a redeeming factor for your visit. However, the same cannot be said for the overall hot pot experience. The broth lacked the depth and richness that I've come to expect from a top-tier shabu-shabu restaurant. The variety of vegetables and noodles provided were standard, nothing to write home about. It seems the focus here is more on the meat than the complete hot pot experience. The atmosphere at Shabu House is decent, with a simple and clean interior. However, it lacks the cozy ambiance that some other hot pot establishments manage to achieve. The tables are adequately spaced, providing a level of privacy, but don't expect any special decorations or a particularly memorable dining setting.Parking around Paloma Street can be described as challenging at best. Finding a spot nearby can be a time-consuming task, especially during peak hours. Be prepared for a bit of a walk if you're visiting during a busy evening.Unfortunately, the service at Shabu House left much to be desired. Our order was repeatedly confused, leading to frustration and unnecessary delays. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and the communication breakdown impacted the overall dining experience negatively. To add insult to injury, when we brought the issue to their attention, the resolution was far from satisfactory. They failed to deliver on a small Sapporo we had ordered, and their response was lackluster, leaving us feeling dissatisfied. Take note my friend have been a patron of this place for 12 years and was really upset that this was our experience. You can overlook the taste of food if the service is superb however I don't think we will come back to this place with the embarrassment that we have experienced. In conclusion, Shabu House on Paloma offers a mixed bag. If you're primarily seeking high-quality meat for your hot pot, this place might be worth a visit. However, be prepared for a less-than-perfect overall experience, with an average atmosphere, challenging parking, and a service that leaves much to be desired. Consider exploring other options in the area for a more well-rounded and enjoyable shabu-shabu experience.

Great for all you can eat shabu. Not many gluten free options though. I was surprised they didn't have gluten free soy

Nothing but good words about Shabu house, my favorite Shabu chain! Always hit the spot in every location I've been to because they're consistent with their flavor and quality. Staff is always so friendly here even when very busy. This location is relatively large compared to their other two locations in San Francisco. Great spot for parties/ large groups of five plus and more. They take reservations for larger groups but I normally come with one or two friends at most and get seated pretty quickly. I like that there sign in to join the waitlist is on a large whiteboard easily visible.I ordered the Large Individual Shabu Entree - lamb with spicy miso soup, and was already pretty stuffed halfway through, but everything was so good so I powered through it LOL. The entree comes with a large platter of thinly cut meat( cut to order), a large platter of vegetables including cabbage, spinach, mushroom, Enoki mushroom, carrots, and tofu and carb options including udon and rice included. I love that they give you the whole Sesame bottle now along with the ponzu sauce to refill at your own pace. I could literally drink their sesame sauce... it's just that good to me. I like to add garlic and green onions to my ponzu sauce, and sesame sauce in a separate bowl.Parking is a doozy here, hit or miss depending on what time you go and if it is a weeknight or weekend. There's residential parking on the same block as a restaurant and needed parking on the main road. The entrance of the restaurant is very unassuming, and tucked on a very quiet street.Great spot, awesome vibes, there's always sports playing at the bar. Save room for the complimentary ice cream. Lastly, big FYI, they automatically charge a service fee AKA tip (regardless of your party size).

Last night, four of us went to Shabu House for dinner around 7pm. Our entire meal was great... until the very end of it. As we were finishing our ice cream, the waiter (a young man) asked if he could clear our table. We said yes then he proceeded to say they closed at 9pm (it was 9:07pm) and if we could be considerate of that fact as many of them have school tomorrow. We were honestly so surprised by what he said that we just left. Mind you, other customers were still finishing their meal. Had he given us even a few minutes, we would've naturally finished our ice cream and left. Shabu House is usually one of our go-to spots for hot pot but this experience left a bad taste in our mouth.

It was so great! Go with a bunch of people so everyone can share everything. I honestly choked during dinner, because it was really hot and didn't chew my food.... I threw up at the table and we all still finished our plates. 5 stars for sure!

Came here for a family dinner (party of 9) on a Saturday night. We had made a reservation on yelp so we got seated right away. Big family gatherings are always kind of hectic, especially with difficult Asian parents- of mine, that is. That being said, Christy was kind, patient and just amazing. Sorry that my family was so much and thank you a million for not throwing a hot pot at us lol. You had a great smile and if the owner/manager is reading this- give that girl a raise! She was awesome!I'm not really a hotpot fan but the meats were really fresh and the broths (we got miso & tonkotsu) were great. It was all you can eat and I also got a side of udon (gotta have my carbs), so yeah I was REALLY full at the end of the night. Great experience, definitely recommend!

My party came in for a reservation at 7:30p and were seated right away. The food is always consistently delicious. They have sesame oil available upon request. Parking can be a bit hard to find. I'm not able to finish the whole entree, so I share with one other person and order an additional meat plate. That way the vegetables don't go to waste. The only downside is that for large parties, gratuity is included and for our case, we did not feel the service provided was worth the gratuity we paid. It was very difficult to flag down a server and our requests for napkins, extra broth, water and tea took ages to come out. We were never even checked on. Good thing their food is yummy...
