Great middle eastern supermarket
My family and friends used to spend a lot of money doing most of our groceries shopping at Papaya store, but no more. We will never set foot back in this horrible place.
Papayaâs owner/manager is the rudest person I have ever encountered, he is always so loud, so sour and so angry for no reason and it seems his job is to make sure the store loses its customers and it is working because compared to two years ago they have lost a large number of their customers because of the following:
1) Low quality products instead of high quality ones they used to sell. For example, they now are selling fake rice made of plastic instead of basmati rice and when I brought it up to their attention and told them that I tested that particular rice and it burnt with a plastic smell, they just dismissed it saying it is impossible.
2) They sell expired food. I had told the staff that they shouldnât place expired packagings and food on their shelves, but they dismissed it, referring me to their manager/owner. The angry manager said, âsome people donât mind buying expired food because itâs still good, and these expiry dates donât mean anything.â
3) The packaged Bulgarian and Feta cheese are moldy inside and you canât see it until you open it and the manager/owner doesnât take it back for a refund even within a few hours of purchase and with a receipt.
4) Since they have lost so many customers, their fruits, vegetables and meat are not selling as well as before so all is moldy, dry, old, and unsafe for consumption.
5) Higher prices that are raised on a daily or weekly basis. They have a sign on their door that they cannot raise the prices legally more than 10%. I have no idea why such a sign should ever be posted when they donât abide by it. We went to buy some goat leg meat last week and the price was $10.99 per pound. This week, we went back, and asked whether they had any in stock because they didnât have any on their fridge display at the butcher shop area, the manager/owner who is always rude and angry said in a humiliating tone, âWhat is goat leg?â And after we repeated ourselves and explained to him, he said,â$11.99 per pound.â We told him we purchased it last week for $10.99 per pound. He said, âgo back to where you got it!â When we said we bought it at their store, he said, âWell, today itâs $11.99 per pound, not happy? Go away!â So without saying anything we left the store and left our full cart behind and we will never set foot in that store again.
In a way, this encounter prompted my family to find a much better butcher shop nearby that has the best customer service ever and has the freshest meat in town, and best of all itâs all kosher and halal too. The blessings of a successful business depends on knowing how to treat the customers. Papaya is not a customer oriented shop and thatâs why they are losing all their customers.
They have middle eastern groceries. Their food court serves fresh desserts and shawarma. I really like the food.
Place is dirty and messy
