The review is not from visiting the restaurant, but from their catering service. First of all, the name of the restaurant is, I think, is misspelled. The owner probably meant to name it "Edokko" or a person from Edo, the old name for Tōkyō from where "nigiri" is originated. "Edoko" means "Huh? Where?" Then, everything else goes down hill from there. The most serious offense is the rice. "Sushi" refers to the rice, and here, the water/rice ratio is all wrong. What you have is a sticky glob of rice glue instead of a delicately formed vehicle for the topping. The topping, or fish, is indelicately butchered. Quite often, the fish has the texture of sponge: an indication that the fish was frozen, thawed, and refrozen a number of times. So, I don't get the high marks given by some reviewers. Perhaps they don't even know how it's supposed to be. Besides,

"Best in the west... Great catering service, Amazing..... and taste really good, Delivered fresh and presentable, very systematic to serve it comes color coded for easier to what sushi burrito to choose. Two thumbs up with 5 star rating deserved.

Update: Edoko's doors are usually closed these days, as they have shifted their business primarily to catering. They can also accommodate private events, which is nice to know for meetings, fundraising events, private parties, etc. They did a fun California roll and tekka maki workshop for my daughter's 8th birthday party (they are so sweet with kids!). The ambiance is a little quiet, but I bet they'd put on your choice of music for a private event. Their sushi is all freshly prepared and nicely presented, and can also make more filling options like fried rice and noodles. They are perfect for catering meetings and low-key events. Soooo sad to see their restaurant closed for the most part these days, but happy that the lovely owners, James and Jenny, have found a more manageable business model for their lives.

Our go-to sushi catering for lunch at work at least once a month. Always on time and offering a nice selection to pile high and take back to desk. I do wish that the tako nigiri were sliced thinner - a bit chewy/tough. And of course, less rice in the rolls.

Edoko just catered my book launch event in San Francisco, and they did a fantastic job! The sushi rolls and gyoza were delicious and fresh, the platters looked beautiful, they provided all the plates, napkins, chopsticks and condiments, and they delivered everything exactly when promised, even though they had to come across the bridge. I would absolutely use them again!

The gluten free chicken teriyaki is awful. Just. ugh. awful. It's bland, needs seasoning, is dry, tough, and really chewy. Tastes like it was made a month ago and left out. Not even the teriyaki sauce can save it. Sushi, meh. The rice to fish ratio is pretty pathetic. The miso salmon is where it's at.

Jenny and James are now doing catering exclusively!!! Don't come to the restaurant to eat but email or call in for your catered order!

As a college student, eating well and eating lots is hard to come by. But this place really filled me up and I loved the variety of sushi they had. It wasn't too overwhelming and there weren't super fancy rolls, but I felt like there was enough for everybody to eat well. You can easily eat $20 worth of sushi, not to mention the miso soup and other foods they had there. Plus the lady was super nice. Definitely coming back again.

All you can eat Japanese food? Sign me in! While I wished the miso soup had more flavor, I loved everything else. $18.94 a person for their buffet is pretty good for being to serve yourself unlimited sushi. Nothing going on much in their dessert section, but who needs it when they've got deep fried rolls and other goodness. And the lady working there was so kind and friendly. I'll be back if I'm around this college town.

If you want superb sushi, this place is not for you and thus it isn't for me. But let me try to elaborate on its saving graces and what needs improvement. If you're looking for a place to fill yourself and your family up, this is an okay place. What it's lacking is some upkeep on the food and lackluster choices in appetizers and dessert. But I think this is normal for a night when they are not busy. I recommend eating here when the turnover of food is more frequent. Tried this place on a Friday evening at 6pm. The assortment of food and sushi is very good. Very good service by who seems to be the woman owner in this quiet and peaceful restaurant. I don't think I've seen more chill, friendly restaurant owners. A number of the customers were interacting with them in a neighborly way. Also, you get to serve yourself wakame with the miso! Very good variety of sushi. Now the bad. My gripe is mainly on the food experience: No house dressing for salad. All the appetizers were lukewarm to cold and the tempura was already soft and not too crispy. The sushi tasted okay. The selection of desserts tonite seem uninspired. This is the only Japanese buffet I know of in Berkeley. Come here when it's not too busy, not too slow.
For $17, its not bad. There is one waitress which I think might also be the owner and two sushi chefs. The food goes pretty fast so you know its fresh. The hot bar has tempura, two kinds of miso soup, fish, and a few other things. The salad bar is pretty good too with salad, and a bunch of other veggie choices. they also ahve a dessert table with cookies and small cakes. Now onto the sushi and nigiri portion - they are small very small but to avoid waste that makes sense. At night, there is the sashimi plate which is only salmon and snapper. There is a sign that says only 5 pieces at a time please. other nigiri are tuna, unagi, tamago, seaweed salad, octopus, and quite a few other ones. Again just small. Although one of the seaweed salad nigiris did topple over onto the conter and i saw the waitress pretty much fix it with her hands. def did not eat that one. not bad but prob won't be back unless i'm in a rush. There is also a sign for $1 for each rice ball not eaten but i ond' thitnk they enforce that. i saw people leave rice on their plates.

I was Craving Sushi and Edoko was on my Book Mark list. So I jumped into my Whip Black Beauty and rolled to Berkeley and Edoko . I was able to Park up front on the Street , Meters run till 6 PM. No Parking Lot. I rolled in and was Greeted and Seated. I Opted for The AYCE Sushi. Theres a Do It Yourself Miso Soup Bar included in the AYCE Buffet. There are Assorted Rolls and Nigri and Even Tuna and Salmon Sashimi. Everything is freshly made . A Plus for a Buffet . Fried Tempura and Fried Shrimp is also included . For the Nominal price they charge its not a Bad deal for an AYCE Sushi Buffet. They also do Catering. Service is Good and Attentive.

Very friendly, welcoming environment. Nice to see people of all ages, shapes, sizes and color. The flat rate is a fantastic deal if you're starving, though the flat rate and lack of a paper menu means moderation isn't an option. They charge a penalty for anyone who skips the rice, which makes sense economically but means that anyone on a low-carb diet should look elsewhere for their fishy fixes -- sashimi ain't on this menu. The sushi itself is hand-made one sort at a time by a very small crew during service, and comes out almost quaint -- way better than the pre-packaged garbage you find at the deli, but obviously not the mysterious, unpronounceable, and esoteric cuts you might find at a high-end sushi restaurant. This place is a blessing for people who get home late from work and just want to indulge themselves quickly, easily, and for cheap.

I was very impressed with this place. Not only was it cheap, but there was a wide array of choices to choose from. Everything that I tried was delicious. I was especially impressed with their sashimi. Yes, they had only salmon and one other kind when I went, but I love salmon and it was yummy. To top it all off, the service was superb and the lady who helped us was very polite. I am definitely going back to this place.

My friends and I were walking towards Jakarta restaurant from home. Halfway there we got too tired to walk and stopped outside this sushi place. Why not? Best decision ever. Their sushi is super fresh. Its all you can eat for $17.55 for super high quality sushi!
