I love this place. I’m so happy it’s nearby. The wine selection is great and the service is excellent. You can taste a few options, there’s no judgement from the staff if you don’t like something, the food is always decent and sometimes delicious, it’s kind of dark, you can go and get a seat easily, and it’s comfortable. I really really recommend it.

This is a wine bar that, bafflingly, never serves up any good wine. It’s my closest bar so I keep giving it another go but… nope. Crappy overpriced wine.

Long overdue . I've been coming here possibly every other month for a few years now . The last time, was the first I sat in the bar area . I have experienced friendly and excellent service each time . This is my favorite weeknight local neighborhood wine bar in highland park . They have a few tables outside in the sidewalk which make excellent if you bring your fur child . They have a variety of wines including draft and chilled. I love the menu is always changing and they are adding new wines as well as small bites items . It makes it for a new wine tasting experience each time.

I am, ... how should I put this ... not well versed in wine? But I can at least describe what I might like in terms of flavor, or even explain what beer I like. Armed with only that, the folks at Holcomb will provide at least one wine to try out that matches my description. I went in once on a hot day and said "I want something that will cool me down but also makes me feel like I'm sniffing the inside of a baseball glove." Nailed it (ended up being "His" - a skin contact Vermentino from Ryme, and yes I wrote it down). Great food as well, and I never feel talked down to by staff or other patrons even though I'm kind of a wine rube.

My fave go to bar in my neighborhood. Always quiet but somehow remaining upbeat and alive energetically. Great wine selection and I love all the bartenders there. I really appreciate that it feels like a welcoming spot to relax on the weekend or after work.

I love this bar so much i almost don't want to write a review, because I selfishly want to keep it to myself.I see that the only negative reviews here seem to be about people not knowing how a bar works. Which makes me wonder if they have ever been to a bar.Super simple, you go to the bar and you order a drink and then you take a seat. It's not a restaurant which maybe is their confusion?I've never had anything but impeccable interactions with the staff. Everyone is friendly and nice, and I have never witnessed a long line or slow service. I have seen bartenders take their time to help guests order the right wine for them but I fail to see how good service is an issue. My guess is the one star reviews are from the kind of people who are unhappy everywhere they go and those aren't the kind of folks I would want to patron a good place as they ruin the atmosphere for everyone wear down kind staff members. Would love to see a world where we consistently ensure we don't reward the whiners and complainers.

Really great staff - always so friendly and helpful. AMAZING wine selection. Maybe the best in town? Food menu is okay but I'm here to drink not to eat.

I cannot express enough how much we adore this little place! Our love for it has grown with each visit, be it in winter or summer, weekdays or weekends, and whether during a brunch or simply passing through. The unwavering service with a warm smile and a glass of delightful wine truly makes it a standout experience every single time. What sets this place apart is the genuine hospitality that comes from the heart. One time in the summer heat, I was so touched to receive a complimentary glass of crisp, cold rose, a thoughtful gesture that left a lasting impression. It's these small touches that make you feel valued and appreciated as a customer. As for the wine selection, it strikes a perfect balance between quality and variety, catering to both enthusiasts and casual sippers alike. Whether you're a seasoned sommelier or just beginning to explore the world of wines, this place has something to satisfy your taste buds.It pains me to read negative reviews about this place. Some individuals fail to grasp the essence of this charming neighborhood "cave", perhaps approaching it with an unfortunately entitled attitude. This place isn't just about serving wine; it's about creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. And please-- just because "your friend takes sommelier classes", doesn't mean you should be rude and bratty. And definitely, just stay away from reviewing something you simply are not capable to understand. Cheers to the lovely Holcomb team!

I have worked in the service industry for years and I understand the ebs and flows of how it is to serve and be served. Never in my life have I been more insulted and treated poorly as I was when I can't to this bar.My friend who had just arrived from an international flight, had to use the restroom as they were closing. We had finished our drinks and paid our tab yet despite the lack of tending to which we did not NEED, the bar staff was incredibly antagonizing and rude to us. She was still in the bathroom while I heard them talking about how annoyed they were with us still being there. Then we have finally came back, we said goodbye and thank you and then they responded with, "bye, hope to see you never". We were shocked and honestly it took some time for us to process that they were being serious. I absolutely couldn't comprehend any situation which staff would revert to behavior such as this. I will never ever go back to this place. I have never felt so dismissed or honestly, used, as I did at this bar.

I never post bad reviews but the staff tonight were some of the rudest people I have ever come across in my entire life. Do better.
