Tensho occupies the former Kagaya location. While it offers the required A5 Wagyu cuts, their prime cuts are marbled and have a very tender consistency; plus an expanded seafood option for the hot pot. Unless you want to take a chance, reservations are highly recommended.

Great experience overall. It gets pricey than before. It was called Kagaya before covid. I was told that owner has changed. As well as the menu changed quite a bit too. At lease they didn't charge for a desert before. As a conclusion, if you want a fine finding this is the place. However, if you are short on cash, go somewhere else. Spending over 200 dollar per person is an easy thing to do.

We had Japanese meat shabu-shabu and king crab shabu-shabu. I thought it would be mainly meat, but was surprised to find that the king crab was more delicious than I expected. The crab was very sweet! I wish I had ordered more crab!

A friend of mine suggested Tensho to me. Let me start by saying, the A5 almost melts. Came with a few other items, and all were fantastic. Even the homemade strawberry sorbet at the end, was very refreshing. Staff was extremely polite, and even though we were a bit late for our reservation, I was seated almost immediately. It's a small place, so showing up without a reservation would not be ideal. 100% would recommend giving a try. Prices are high, so keep that in mind. Great for casual dining. Presentation of food was also very beautiful.

My favorite shabu shabu place in LA. I came here so many times cause not only the food is amazing, the service is top notch as well. I told all my friends about this place. For the price, you get 3 appetizers in addition to the shabu shabu and rice/udon soup and dessert! What a great value! Can't wait to come back!

Magnificent!! Truly a memorable experience celebrating our anniversary. The quality of their Deluxe A5 Wagyu is unsurpassed; it's beautifully marbled, a melt-in-your-mouth kind of beef. I've eaten it many times in Japan and can't get enough. We also ordered the USDA Prime Beef as a comparison. This was delectable as well and certainly well priced. The dashi broth and the goma (sesame) and ponzu (Japanese vinegar) だれ (dare) complemented the beef perfectly. The quality and presentation of the dishes in their set course is what I'm accustomed to. I felt as if we were dining in Japan!! It included many delicious appetizers and was very filling. The sake flight choices were awesome and I definitely recommend ordering it. Ayumi, was a pleasure and her attentiveness was impeccable. I really can't wait to return. Thank you Tensho!

It is very rare for me to leave a review like this but I have eaten Shabu Shabu all over the world including most of the restaurants in LA. I feel l have an obligation to warn people about this restaurant. Their food is good. I would call it above average. But the portion sizes are very small and the prices are completely outrageous. I am used to spending a lot because we always upgrade to include the A5 Wagyu, but the prices they are charging are 2-3 times what I have seen anywhere. For the A5 they charge $193 for 8 oz, which works out to $386 a lb. That is almost a 400% markup on the cost of A5. It is definitely not worth it. And for what? The ambience is decent but not great. Also, WATCH YOUR FEET AT THE TABLES WHEN YOU STAND UP!!! They have the power cords for the tables running loose under the tables. If you catch your feet on one you could trip and possibly knock the table with boiling broth over on yourself or someone else. I will say that the staff is really nice and an overall nice experience but there are several places in LA where you can have just as nice an experience, eat the exact same quality beef and seafood and not feel like you were absolutely robbed.

Not as good as the old Kaga-Ya. But similar and pricier.

Such a great spot for date night or over all gathering. Service is 100 percent friendly and efficient.Shabu Shabu meat quality is literally melt in your mouth! Prime rib eye is a great choice if you're not into super soft melt to touch wagyu.

Experience was great. Can taste the chef put a lot of effort into the food. Apple pie and banana pie are my favorite desserts

Intimate, authentic hot pot experience which literally made me feel like I was dining in Japan. The service is super nice and welcoming, and they explained the menu and selections to us Westerners. Some of the flavors were a bit too "foreign" for me, but I tried everything nonetheless (some I liked, some I didn't care for). High marks for the excellent draft beer and the sake we ordered; delicious! The sushi appetizer was extremely high quality, with almost a sweetness to the tuna (two types). Cold roast beef appetizer with onion sauce was very tasty, but I wish they had cut the pieces smaller. Let's talk about the main course: the hot pot (shabu-shabu). We all had the USDA Prime Beef. Meat was all sliced to order (incredible!), along with a mountain of tofu, mushrooms, and green leafy veggies. The meat was tasty, if plain, but the two sauces added some nice flavoring, used sparingly. Noodles and rice soup (your choice) come after, and then the dessert. This is not a place for the masses and not a good choice if you're on a budget. You're going to spend a solid $125 or more per person, easily, plus tax and gratuity. While not every flavor was in my normal wheelhouse, it's a totally unique experience for many of us. If you're adventurous, give it a try; you'll learn a lot and enjoy the experience.
