Love this spot on state street, right by the beach, super tasty wine, and Tommy is amazing. Ended up becoming a member! Stoked to come back often with friends and family when they visit.
This is by far our favorite tasting room. Not only did we love just about every wine we tried but the outside ambience was comfortable and we liked e option of sweet or savory small plates to go with our wine. We tried the charcuterie and it was perfect pairing for our wine flight. They also offer a chocolate tasting to go with your wines but we didn't try that one on this trip. We joined their wine club, which allows you a complimentary glass of wine per day! We've been there on our nightly walks from our hotel and purchase a bottle of wine to enjoy back in the room. It's a perfect location, Jackie gives great service and the location is shaded from the evening sun. I fell in love with their Pinot Noir and the Rose. Casey enjoys their Cabernet and is obsessed with their Lagrein.
had great wine tasting during covid . we got to pick our 6 wines for the tasting . ended up joining the wine club . great wines and great service by Jackie .
We absolutely loved this place!! Not only were the views amazing (right along the main strip), but the wine and customer service were unparalleled! Tommy was our server and he was so knowledgeable about all the wines and you can tell he loves what he does. We will definitely be returning customers the next time we're in town!
Probably the most amazing best tasting room in Santa Barbara! The staff is so friendly and personable, yet knowledgeable and professional. The wines are spectacular and so decently priced. Tommy made us feel so welcome and treated us with so much care!
We love the wines here.... became a club member our first day in . Sweet little tasting room with outdoor seating too. They serve light food/ sandwiches/ cheese plate. Highly recommend. Also have music on the weekends... This was before the pandemic so we're waiting for the next stage for them to start up music again
After just opening back up after the shut down this place has it going on! Not only are the wines delicious (try the smooth pinot blanc and viognier), they're more decently priced than other tasting rooms and a gorgeous ambiance and patio but the staff is amazing! With reservations now required, Tommy treated everyone with such caring and respect!
J Wikes Wine Tasting Room located on lower State Street next to the Californian Hotel. They are just getting rolling when the virus hit They are offering 30% on bottles and 50%on their sandwiches. I picked up a bottle of their Ballard Lane Zinfandel and their BLT sandwich. Get service. Show these folks some Love
Best tasting in Santa Barbara hands down! Great pinot noir, awesome chocolate and wine pairing offered daily, and hands down the best service. Carina was great! I highly recommend J. Wilkes. BONUS, live music every weekend!!!
My friend and I stopped in after dinner at Finney's and loved it! Antonio was informative and perfectly attentive. Wines were overall good, the chocolate pairing was amazing *i highly recommend* (and different for the funk zone). I learned a lot about the grapes and areas where the wine is made. Recommend as a stop through the funk zone especially because walking in was so cute! (Beautiful chandeliers)!
My wife and I spotted J Wilkes across the street after having dinner in the funk zone. We've been to most of the tasting rooms in the area and are members at Grassini (also great wine); we hadn't remembered seeing this place here before, so we had to investigate. Turns out they have only occupied the spot in S.B. for about 3 months. It was 7pm on Saturday at night, and not too crowded. We were helped immediately, and had two glasses of the bourbon cask cabernet. This was a superb wine with nice tannins and a supple, rounded finish that belied its young age (2017). We chatted with Claudia and Antonio throughout, our servers - both super friendly and knowledgeable. After our glasses, Claudia offered some complimentary tasting of a few other wines of our choice, and we were hooked - the unoaked chardonnay and pinot were equally good; these are great quality wines at a reasonable price. We signed up for their very viable wine club with good benefits, and took home the first 3 bottle of our choice at a 30% discount, with the glasses of wine and tastings free. We left well after closing at about 8:20pm not sensing the slightest pressure to leave, and feeling elated over our find; what's not to like?!
Hands down the worst wine tasting I've ever done in Santa Barbara. They were wiping counters and sweeping around us hinting that we should leave. Also, the wines are not at all up to par with other wineries in the area. Avoid at all costs.
Visited yesterday and had an awful experience. We've visited almost every winery in Downtown Santa Barbara and this was by the far the worst. The service was terrible and we were given no information on the wines. Our tasting room host didn't smile the entire time and she seemed annoyed to be there. She didn't seem to be very happy with her job. With each pour came NO information about the wine. They just told us the varietal and moved on. Very average wine overall. Also, they were closing up shop early and cleaning around us which was very uncomfortable. Not a good tasting experience at all if you are a wine lover. If you don't care to learn anything and just get drunk, this would be a good option for you.
The absolute worst tasting I've done anywhere. California, Spain, Italy, Texas, you name it. The worst. Snooty staff that don't know the wines or the grapes. Staff cleaning hinting that you should leave. Nothing impressed us, and definitely would not return.
Beautiful location. Introduced to these wines when Wes Hagen was visiting the Wine Republic in Excelsior, MN -- go figure. So, it was pre ordained to visit their tasting room when we visited friends In Santa Barbara. Nice selection of whites, award winning Cabernet Sauvignons.
