I feel so disappointed with this place. I came in to treat myself after a difficult task and boy, was I let down. I paid $22 for dry toast and bad costumer service. The server didn't bring butter (are times really that hard that the place needs to penny pinch with butter??) and when I asked her for ketchup and hot sauce, she acted like I was asking for a personal favor. I wonder if the amount of melanin in my body has anything to do with the crappy and discriminatory service that server provided. I laughed at her when she came back with the condiments acting all bother. Like girl it's your job to SERVE me, it's in the JOB TITLE. I wish we treated each other with reverence regardless of race. Guess it's too fall of an order for a Piedmont cafe IN OAKLAND....

Good European style cafe. Excellent expresso coffee, pastries and sandwiches. I go there often enough that the usual barista prepares my cappuccino as soon as I walk in the door. I like the DeAnda pastries from San Francisco and they have great cheesecake and tiramisu too. The meatball sub is a very substantial meal in itself.

I remember when this place was Caffe Trieste and recall liking the chicken pesto panini so that's what I ordered during a recent visit. Sadly, the panini wasn't very good and the same was true for the prosciutto pizza. The panini was plain. It would have benefited from some salt or other seasoning on the chicken and the pesto was bland. Despite the grill marks, it didn't seem like it was put into the panini press. The pizza was lackluster. While it looked good, the flavor was not. Add to the overall disappointing meal was the dirty table that I ended up cleaning myself before sitting down. I don't think I'll be returning to Caffe Chiave.

Caffe Chive was a decent cafe for me to work in when I was in Oakland, since that was all I was really looking for anyway, but it was busier than I expected it'd be. The service was quick, the staff were friendly enough, and the coffee and the wifi were decent. There's not much more I could ask for when it comes to a place I can work at that isn't at home! I wouldn't necessarily come out of my way here, but it seems like a good enough place to catch up with a friend after a meal. Overall, an okay place, but I can't say anything more about it. If I come back and try the food, I'll update my review.

Good food. Got a veggie pizza with artichokes and black olives. Crust was good. Fries here were excellent.Outdoor seating at the back was nice and relaxed. The coffees others ordered looked great.Vegetarian options: Veggie pizza, fries, breakfast sandwiches including egg and cheese
Been going for years. Low prices, nice staff, and good atmosphere. Free wifi and power at some places. Has a very different ambiance than the modern coffee shop (minimalist/wide spaces/bright lighting) that makes it unique.

The food is without added seasoning. If you prefer salty or sweet, this isn't the place for you. The hash is a bit over cooked for my taste. My wife likes the cakes here. Coffee is better at Blue Bottle next door but my wife disagrees.

I ordered online and it was impossible to get anyone on the phone despite it being open for only an hour. The food is good but the staff has to be terrible for me to call at least 5 times and not once get an answer.

Excellent as always. :-) Just there to have coffee and biscotti with a friend. The outside seating was pleasant and welcoming. We sat there for two hours, and did feel pressured to leave. The staff as always is very nice and supportive. I highly recommend Caffe Chiave.
