New nacho cheese <<< old beer cheeseOver the last 5 years I was a huge fan of Clove and Hoof, their food was made with high quality ingredients and consistently delicious every time.I read in other recent reviews the restaurant is under new management and after this most recent meal I had- I can confirm the food has changed for the worse. Most noticeably: the cheese served with their fries and the cheese steak is no longer a homemade beer cheese, it is clearly a nacho cheese from a can. Very disappointing! The roll the cheese steak was on was different as well as the fries. Doesn’t taste like they are beef tallow fries any more. It seems as though the new management has come in looking to reduce costs and the quality of the food has been sacrificed. Truly hope they are able to figure out the business side of things and switch back to the same great food they were serving for years. Bring back the beer cheese!!

Used to be our go to for elevated bar food, but our most recent trip left us disappointed. Quality seems to have been replaced with cheap and generic meats, fries and foods that leaves clove and hoof absent of the uniqueness that drew us here in the first place.Unfortunately this is a pass until further notice.

Used to frequent this place when it first opened 10+ years ago. While their service at my recent visit was very friendly and fast, and the flavors decent; the quality of the meat was a big let down. I know it's not a butcher shop anymore but the chicken in the chicken sandwich was essentially just a big ol processed and deflated chicken nugget. I might also suggest that they change up the decor a bit. They still have pickles, canned fruit, and vegetables from when I assume the place opened over a decade ago gathering dust and rusting displayed in the shelf. I know canned fruits and veggies have a long shelf life but the state these jars are in is not very appetizing.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. This used to be one of my favorite and most reliable restaurants in Oakland, but my wife and I went in last week and had a fried chicken sandwich that was super underwhelming. We noticed new management and congratulated them on the takeover, which is apparently recent. I decided to try again tonight, and had cheesesteak that barely resembles the glory that they used to serve here. It’s a sad day.At least the fries were still good

Been here a year ago and it was pretty good. This time it felt empty and not welcoming. Ordered a breakfast special and fried brussel sprouts side. Brussel sprouts came barely lukewarm, as if they were pre cooked and then rewarmed. Soggy and unappetizing. The special came and it was two eggs sunny side up, but the eggs were cold and practically raw, and the ”fried chicken” was 2 chicken tenders, like I would get for my 3 year old at an amusement park because she wouldn't eat anything else. Clearly not freshly made, dry, crusty, probably frozen and then microwaved. Terrible. Will never go again. And the butcher that used to be here has vacated. Clearly this place is on its way out.

The cheesesteak hoagie had only about five slices of red peppers and they were in the front…..and it didn’t have many mushrooms…it liters had 4 slices of thin pice of onion slightly thicker than a toothpick..I don’t remember seeing more than 3 green pepper pieces either …I tasted the mushroom toward the end..and then they say side salad but it literally just spinach and arugula mix ,I expected tomatoes ??????..idk why Spanish people call lettuce or spinach salad ..but other than that it was decent and McDonalds is about 11 dollars so the hoagie and salad for 16 isn’t All that bad ,but they didn’t really put no effort into my sandwich and I specifically told her that I saw them through the review on bay area foods hoping shed tell her to put sun umph in it …they did a mediocre job tho …but whatever ..I’m not broke ..but I wouldn’t come back ???

For the best burger and service, go to Clove and Hoof. There are many burger options in the area between Broadway and Piedmont, but this one far surpasses the rest.

One of the best cheesesteaks of my life. The beef was so tender and juicy and portion was generous! Nice big side salad was great. The bun was slightly crisp and more like a ciabatta; none of those wimpy gross hot dog type buns.Service was super fast and my to go order was ready within minutes.Highly recommend; everything is super fresh and delicious!

Fried chicken sandwich is just a factory made chicken patty, NOT fried chicken. It’s a thin piece of mystery chicken meat like a McChicken patty. I hate when restaurants put a fried chicken sandwich on the menu and serve a chicken patty sandwich. They are not the same. For a $15 sandwich, this is extremely disappointing and misleading. Given that it’s a “butchery” restaurant, I was expecting an actual piece of meat. They have no excuse.

First time here. Simple but well executed hot sandwiches and burgers. It has a old timey diner vibe and they have beer. The chef was singing while preparing the food! Pity it was empty on a Tues night but I did see some to-go orders going out the door so it may be more of that type of place. Not really butcher shop though (at least at 7pm).
