It does have some cuts you can't normally get and it offers caviar and oysters with various degrees of freshness and quality. Typically I find the staff to be very honest about what is fresh and that's a huge bonus.

Man! This place takes the cake, fish n chips hot and fish super fresh. Pricey but worth it. We walked pass this place thinking it was a fish shop, it is! Eat healthy eat here.

I was hankering for some fish and chips yesterday for lunch. I swung over to Oakland to visit a friend of mine and he had been to this little Diamond in the rough by his house. I give the fish and chips a solid 4.5 stars and with good customer service a 5 overall. This is primarily a seafood shop inside the Food Market Hall in the Rockridge area on College. They have a parking lot and there was street parking available too. They have several tables outside of the Food Hall; we scored a table on the side in the shade. The order came with 3 nicely fried pieces of cod, light, fluffy, tender and fresh. The batter is a panko type batter versus the beer batter. I prefer the beer batter, thus 4.5 stars versus 5 stars for the fish. The fries are fresh potatoes, fried so they are crunchy and salted. I think they salted the fries with the fish pieces in the container. I thought my fish had a little extra salt. The tarter sauce has a nice flavor mixed with dill versus relish.Overall, excellent fish and chips; we paid $15.95 for an order. I will definitely go there again and top off my meal with a dessert from one of the shops in the Food Hall Market. Lots of other goodies there like a bakery, cheese shop, butcher shop, coffee/tea, wine and fresh pasta to name a few shops.

Nice fish selection but moon pricing. PEI mussels, for example, at $12.99 per pound (on 3/1/23)!Wow, several competitors sell them for less than half of that price. Kia Ora salmon, great, but does anyone know of better pricing than $32.99 per pound?

Sustainability sourced fish, local 100% grass fed beef - all around high quality products mostly fair pricing. We did put back one chocolate bar that ended up being $17, so not everything is reasonable.

Insanely good fish and fresh seafood. We don't come here often because it's very pricey and the cost makes it out of range for big events, but special for occasional small dinners. They also have prepared foods and soups that are *chef's kiss*

Wonderful Raw fish, but i didnot like their prepared food. I ordered fish and chips as well as fish sandwich. Both came with french fries. French fries were consistently greasy and soggy (on multiple occasions). The coating on the fish was greasy (on multipleoccasions). Nice pieces of fish though. Last time i had a sandwich, i got very long black hair in it. I was totally grossed out. I do not think i will be coming back for these type of items.

Good quality seafood with knowledgeable staff. Shares the space with a quality butcher.

I had a bad experience ordering at Hapuku. I ordered crabs 2.5 weeks in advance for a large family meal. 2 hours before the pick up time I received a phone call alerting me that they did not have any crabs but wanted me to replace it with lobsters (which were significantly more expensive). This was an extremely disappointing experience as the holiday meal was derailed by this.

I walked in at 3pm and they told me they stop serving fish and chips at 6pm. I came back just before 545pm and they said actually they stop serving it st 545pm. I was in line ordering at 545pm. Then they lied to my face and told me they didn’t say 6pm. Two of them. Pure gaslighting. Incredibly bad customer service and communication. Extremely disappointing. The worst customer service I’ve had in over a year. Also they put Old Bay seasoning in “New England” clam chowder. Sacrilege. I never want to come back here.

Bought some Bay Scallops there for my ceviche and my dinner guests remarked that the dish tasted so fresh the seafood must have still been swimming the day before. Fast and friendly service too.

While Hapuku is pretty expensive, you're getting very fresh and high quality seafood. And the people working are always super knowledgeable and happy to make suggestions/answer questions. Only gets three stars because there are other spots in the Bay Area where you can get comparable high quality seafood that isn't crazy expensive. I only really go here if I'm in the neighborhood and don't feel like driving further to buy fish.
