Support this (kinda hidden) local business! Very tasty cupcakes! It’s hard to find a good gluten free cupcake and their tiny chocolate cupcakes did not disappoint! The cheesecake frosting I stole from my bf’s regular cupcake was also very good. The cupcakes are kinda pricey, not something I’d buy all the time, but until my next visit: I’m going to be craving them for sure! Park around the corner by the school, San Pablo St doesn’t have much available.Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free and vegan options.

We were first introduced to JATGC in 2014 when we moved into a house a few doors down from them on San Pablo. Given that I have an insatiable sweet tooth, I was a frequent visitor and got to know the then owners Callie and Eurydice. Fast forward 9 years and we have ordered cupcakes for my wedding, gender reveal, sons first birthday, my daughters 1st birthday, and my 40th birthday- along with many other milestones. The cupcakes are always delicious and amazing. Everyone raves over the flavors. Our favorites are salty banana and sea salt caramel. We love supporting this local business with the sweetest treats and staff!

Honestly one of the best cupcakes we have had. Friendly service also.

We miss you guys so much! Now that we live across the bridge, it's hard to come support this lovely people but still my number one no matter what! Hopefully this year for my birthday, it will be a James and the giant cupcake kinda party!

Here to pick up a @usa_TooGoodToGo surprise bag … Unfortunately they don’t have any and didn’t cancel my order. I’ve requested a refund.

What an experience. I'm standing in line and all of a sudden, the host of the morning radio talk show I listen to gets in line behind me. Him and his kids. OMG

Cupcakes are one of my kryptonites and this place is no exception. I had usually gone to the downtown Oakland location pre-pandemic and found out they closed it (sad emoji) so I dropped by here to curb my craving. The inside right wall hung whimsical and creative drawings of the cupcake flavors through the years and it really added to the store's ambiance. The March flavors were in full swing and on display. I got the Key Lime West (Mar. 1 - Mar. 31), Lemon (Mar. 1 - Mar. 31) Over the Rainbow (Available for order 3/16 - 3/17). I really enjoyed the first 2 - I'm a s***** for citrus flavored cupcakes, especially if the cupcake is moist and flavorful and the frosting paired nicely and wasn't too sweet. I especially liked the graham cracker crumble that added a textural layer. The Over the Rainbow was unfortunately overbaked and a smidge dry. It happens I guess! The lady working there remembered me from frequenting the downtown Oakland and was very friendly. She packaged my 3 cupcakes nicely and even added some tissue so they didn't get messed up if they bumped into each other.Long live James and the Giant Cupcake!

It's not atmospheric here...it's a cupcake production extravaganza! Love all rotating flavors and just had the creamy and fluffy high hat with marshmallow fluff and vanilla cream in a perfectly moist chocolate cake. I have used them for catering large crowds...with custom printed logos on rice paper icing. We had vegan and gluten free ...not one person was disappointed. And my true celiac friends were tickled pink with these tasty cakes. Thank you for always making my day better!

The frosting is good. There. Maybe I don't need to say more?Bland. I had carrot cake that taste like a bran muffin with sugar and red velvet that tasted like bland chocolate. How do you make chocolate bland? But the frosting was delicious!

They made my wedding cake and did a great job. Their baked goods are delicious. Highly recommend.

Popped in just 15 minutes before closing on Fri afternoon and grabbed some cupcakes and mini-cupcakes - Snickerdoodle (vegan/gluten-free but you would never know), Salted Caramel, Blueberry cheesecake, and Banana. Each one was delicious and gobbled quickly. Smaller in size cupcakes than Sprinkles but moist and flavorful cake with not-to-sweet frosting. Perfection!

I ordered a dozen cupcakes and a giant birthday cupcake for pickup. These cupcakes are really delicious and true to the name: cup cake. They are (somewhat small) cakes in a cup with so many delicious toppings and cake combos that you will be satisfied. We ordered two each of 6 varieties and each was delicious. So the product is real, they're tasty, and worth the additional cost in our opinion. So why the three stars? Service. We ordered well in advance for a midday/morning pickup. I thought I could pick them up during my lunch but unfortunately they weren't ready. Ok, cool. I can come back. I returned after 3p and they were ready. I asked for an additional box for the giant cupcake and was told "It's in a box." Yes, it was in a plastic container which I wanted boxed so it would be more secure. You would think I could get a box considering I had to wait for the pickup. That's how you turn a patient customer into a dissatisfied one. The other thing I was told was that the cupcakes had to be delivered. I guess they are baked at Jack London and then brought to this (San Pablo Ave) location. If we had known that, I would have arranged to pick them up in JL Square. No reason to make people wait for deliveries from another site. Just arrange pickups after 12p or whatever so there's no inconvenience. Or, tell people morning pickups are at JL Square. Easy. Great cupcakes. Period. Was disappointed to hear that the rumors of iffy service were true. This can be easily fixed with a little more planning and consideration.

Blackowned cupcake shop. Every cupcake was that bomb!!! My favorite is the lemon flavor.

This is the best specialty cupcake shop I've been to! Typically I find that cupcake shops are overly trendy and are sustained by being instragram-worthy, not actually flavorful. James and the Giant Cupcake blows all of those assumptions away!! I have tried 15+ flavors at this point and they have all been amazing. Not overly sweet, fun, seasonal flavors, and beautiful presentation! Do yourself a favor and get yourself some cupcakes from here :)
