Been going here for almost a year , food is great but since covid 19, their hours and staff have shrunk. When I go now , takes 30 minutes to make 4 tacos. Its ridiculous. Anyways , like I said the food is good so that's why i still go. I call in 15 minutes before I show up. When I get there I pay, and wait about 10-15 minutes. Hope this helps.

Great place to eat. Its clean and the staff is friendly. The food is authentic. They have really good tacos with tortillas made by hand. The menudo is really going.

The rice is amazing at this place, simply delicious. But the decor is a bit tacky and the one man band is way too loud. Sure, that's what's normal for a Mexican Restaurant but you can barely hear yourself as the music echoes in the 97 percent empty room. I'm not sure why the musician would ask the people who are the least likely to know any spanish music, what song he should play next. We shake our head and explain we dont know any and he just keeps asking. Anyways, the service here is good. They get to your table quick, and return often which is nice. The only thing that I would add that disappoints me is the way they serve the carnitas. They cube it rather than have it shredded. I'm not sure if that's an idea they have to stand out as a restaurant but it makes it taste weird and bland. It kindof wants you to order something else but even the quesadillas and tacos have it cubed....Good service though, food is good. Overall, a nice place to eat at one in a while.

I order for take out. My experience was so sad. The food was so bad.. The tortillas was cold. Rice taste bad and the tacos meat was so tick and no cooking well. So disappointed. ?

We are still in mourning over the closure of our beloved Hacienda Grill in Richmond. We ate there for all 16 years of its existence, Their food was delicious. We are searching for a New Mexican place that offers delicious food at reasonable prices. So last week we decided to try La Gran Chiquita for lunch. I got a chicken torta ($9.95) and Mr Rinky got a veggie burrito. The torta was tasty with tender chicken, lettuce, onion, tomatoes and mayo. I liked it but not the best I've had. Mr Rinky liked his veggie burrito--beans, rice, lettuce, tomato and guacamole. No roasted vegetables. You order at the counter and are served at your table. The counter person was very warm and friendly. The salsa bar was EXCELLENT-- four kinds of salsa, radishes and a few other toppings I forgot about. Serve yourself chips. I love being able to help myself to salsa and chips. There were a few other customers--two families with young children, some solo diners and some take out folks. The restaurant is large. The bathrooms are clean and large also. I think we may return but in the meantime we'll be checking out some more places.

I'm still looking for good food in Richmond and I keep trying but Sunday I chose this place and I will not be coming back. They greeted us at the door that was nice but , the food took way to long to come. The chips were stale and the had almost no salsas. When the food finally came the waiter said look at this place worth the wait. My husband ordered a seafood soup and the shrimp smelled funny and had no flavor even after my husband added lime, cilantro and hot sauce. I ordered a plate of carnitas and it was a plate that was chipped from the corner and the meat was hard. It looked like pork cut in cubes with tons of fat in it, not what carnitas usually look like shredded soft meat. I can tell you the tortillas were the best thing we ate.

Very impressive salsa bar. I'm a salsa guy and I'm hard to impress. All 4 salsas had great flavor. I usually only like 1 salsa at most places. The neighborhood is not great and the building is old but besides that, this is authentic. It has that Mexico feeling. Fast, friendly, and affordable. Even the pico de gallo had flavor, I was surprised. i don't have time to explain right now - but this is an amazing spot. i haven't stopped eating their food for over 12 hours. forgive me, and i'll explain more later. just go here. i'm a horrible beast.

Authentic mexican food and I don't know if there's always live music, but there was a one man band who played very nice.
