Its the best ice cream, not conveniently located for me, but we'll worth the drive.
Great favors to choose from. Outdoor seating. Great atmosphere 👌
Part of Sacramento’s local culture since the 1940s Gunther’s Ice Cream is nothing short of a capitol city landmark, the Googie-style store opened in 1949 still generating lines year-round more than 75 years since opening.
Still using the same slow-churn base since day one, the result a light and creamy mouthfeel distinctly different from modern artisans expanding throughout So.Cal., a stop at Gunther’s suggests 40+ signature flavors plus seasonal specials such as October’s Huckleberry flavored naturally by local Fruit.
Not a spot for Candy mix-ins or oddities like Bugs or Goat Cheese, but rather the sort of shop that takes Butter Pecan seriously, fans of old-school flavors will find none better with each lick coating the tongue while bigger bites feature softened Nuts roasted just enough to maximize their flavor.
Always a great place to stop at if your in the area
Nice place for ice cream. They make their ice cream onsite and tasted great. Many choices to choose from when it comes to getting ice cream here. They have fruit freezes, sandwiches, and other stuff in addition to the ice cream.
Order online to save a couple minutes otherwise waiting in line the old fashioned way is fine too.
Cashiers are always friendly and the ice cream orders come out quick.
Excellent ice cream.
Great selection and service. Cool old building in Curtis 🏞️
I’m not a big fan of how taste testing is handled here. I rarely visit, and when I came by a few days ago, I asked if I could try some flavors. They said yes and told me to stand by the ice cream and ask staff for samples. But it felt like everyone was avoiding me, even when I tried to get their attention. I eventually had to go back to the cashier just to get one sample, which made me feel pretty uncomfortable. I only ended up trying one flavor. Honestly, the ice cream flavors I ended up getting wasn’t anything special, and the waffles weren’t great either. I’m not a big fan that you can’t see the ice cream as well. I think there are better places around.
Great products, and great staff!

Delicious!
I love how consistent the quality is — you can tell they take pride in what they do. The texture is spot on, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. My favorite place for ice cream, no question!😊
The best ice cream ever!
It's Gunther's! That's all I need to say.
I highly recommend the 50/50 fruit freeze, sooo good. The fruit freeze made with real fruit chunks plus the creamy vanilla ice cream is such a good combination.
I got the pineapple, vanilla and strawberry 50/50.
Gunther’s is a local spot in sac that’s been open since the 1940’s. Check this place out if you haven’t yet!
