Food was alright, service sucked, people go to restaurants because they don't wanna cook and want to be attentive with excellent customer service, when you walk in you seat yourself and have to grab a menu from the bar, and ask for your own drinks, they won't even ask if you need anything. Had better

I used to love Anthem Vegan when it was a standalone diner with great breakfast items. But since it downgraded and moved into Toronado Bar on 30th Street, it's not as good. The Toronado Bar is a large space with only ceiling fans (it gets hot in there). You order your food at the bar and Anthem has gotten rid of all the great breakfast items. We got the North Park nachos ($11.50) which weren't that good. They are nearly ruined by chipotle aioli (why do nachos need aioli?), which I'd have skipped if I'd read the menu more closely. The homemade "karne" in this was ridiculously watery. It was like eating a wet towel. The philly cheezsteak ($12.50) had identically watery "karne" and similarly watery cheese sauce. At least the sauce tasted all right, with hints of red curry. I hope Anthem can figure things out in its new shared space, because San Diego has gone from being a vegan contender to a vegan flame-out in 2019.

This location is in a bar. It is dark and more bar than restaurant. You will order your food from the bartender. Not even close to a restaurant setting that I would bring my family to.

SoCal burrito was a bummer. The "carne" did not have any seasoning at all. The texture was great but the flavor was lacking. Overall, the burrito was pretty dry and it didn't come with any salsa. I also shared a burger and the chik 'in over fries and that was pretty good. I would probably recommend the burger (even though they don't have any homemade patties) over the rest of the food. At the end of the meal, you will need a nice beer and tons of water.

Cool place but rather disappointed with not exciting food and high price considering portions. Saying that I would go again to try another meal and see if second time proved better.

Hello y.

I've visited this restaurant 3 separate times. The first two times I chose casual "American" dishes. Once a gourmet hotdog and then a gourmet hamburger. It wasn't bad. Both of those times Anthem was located on University Ave at the time. A more vibrant, family-friendly, cute and cozy location. It's current location is very much the opposite. Nice people and lots of beer selections (located in Toronado) but I don't get the family-friendly invitation that I once did. In fact, it's dark and cave-like...my first impression. (I don't like eating my food in the dark or in cigarette smoke out in the back) This time I tried the nachos. Mainly because I was craving nachos for a whole week. I had hoped to try one with loads of jicama, black beans, pick de Gallo, green onions, pickled jalepenos/carrots/radishes, lettuce, cilantro, freshly fried tortilla chips, grilled mesquite portobello mushrooms (because that gluten meat is not working) and Miyoko's cheddar...basically a healthier and fresher version of nachos. But it was...regretfully speaking, disappointing to say the least. I know they can do better and I hope I can visit again when they do. So here's to three stars with potential.

oook i am like so confused. i went to this place expecting the restaurant that is pictured and the address takes me to a bar, tornado. i'm only now, after searching online, realizing what happened here. So I go there and sit at the bar. I try to order a diet coke. The guy says we don't have diet coke. I ask for a gin and tonic. The guy says they only have beer. I'm so confused and I apologize profusely, explaining that I had never been there. Ok I order a beer, even though I hadn't really planned on drinking. I look over the menu and it doesn't look at all like what is listed on yelp, but some of the things are similar. I order the Philly cheese steak. It comes out shortly and it is a slopping wet mess. Like so soggy that I can't pick it up. I ask for utensils. It's kind of a divey bar which I typically like, but the doors are open and there are just flies everywhere. The guy offers me bottles of condiments but there's flies landing all over on the open tops of the ketchup bottles and everything. I would love to try something else on the menu but I don't think I'll be back while they're at this location. Maybe I'll consider calling in for take out.

Best Beyond Burger melt ever! Got an impossible melt with a Beyond Burger and was truly incredible. So juicy and flavorable with grilled onions and the works! Nachos pretty good, but missing something in my opinion. This spot is the epitome of dive bar, vegan junk food! No juice bar, fancy salads here. Looking for craft beer, dive bar vibe, this place is on point. We enjoyed stopping by and experiencing something new, and the burger was such a pleasant surprise!

Decent food, horrible service and attitude. Want to order pickup ? Go elsewhere. The staff was nonchalant and assumed we were delivery drivers which was fine if they weren't outright rude and didn't even acknowledge that we were there for a while. When trying to call out the attention of the chef/cook after standing in his line of sight for a while, he was just yelled as if we were disturbing him. Once they found out we were regular customers they tried to mollify a bit, but the point is you don't treat people this bad especially when you depend on them to run your business. 2 stars for decent food, but fries were soggy because again they take forever to give you your food.

Anthem is inside of a bar called Toronado. I ordered at the bar, paid, and sat down to wait. The woman who took my order asked me not to sit at the bar while I waited for my food to go. There were only two people at the bar and 10 open seats. There were tables there too, but I was afraid to sit for fear of the same reprimand. I just stood there feeling awkward. I did not feel welcome.
