The food here is amazing. It's some of the best we've had. The night we came had live music and it was hot in that room. We sat on the patio out back under the umbrellas it was really nice, but it needed some music out there. It was so quiet and I could hear the entire conversation of the drunk girls cackling next to us.

Very disappointed that staff had not seen our Open Table reservation for 8. They were not ready for us. First guest to arrive told them we'd have 14 people, so staff seemed miffed that we were only 8. Why are they using Open Table if they aren't paying attention to it?

El Zarape has an amazing atmosphere! Live band sets the mood for lunch or dinner paired nicely with their margarita flights! The food is prepared well and brought out in a timely manner, and service with a smile is a must! You will not regret eating there!

This place was a delight. We loved the atmosphere and liveliness, even on a Wednesday! They even had a vegetarian section, which was very convenient.

Can be very busy and lively or a great place to chill. Servers are very attentive and friendly in either case.

We got there on a Sunday 11am-ish, and it was a bit confusing as there was no hostess or employee on sight, but someone showed up and walked us to our table within a minute. Our server was nice and effective. They appeared to be understaffed. The coffee, regular and de olla were good. We also enjoyed the chilaquiles poblanos and huevos rancheros. We plan on going back.

Services was super friendly and speedy. The cocktails were excellent- an Old Fashioned and an Espresso Martini. The Birria was super delicious, I had to watch the whole plate. Nachos and salsa were yummy.Street parking can be tricky, but that's SD for ya! Inside and patio seating ( with heaters).

Went there for lunch in Sunday. I had the blandest Mexican food ever. The service was fine. I ordered the cheese enchilada and chili rebellions. The sauce they poured over it tasted like tomato paste. No spice and no flavor. In addition I order menudo to go. It was horrible. I threw it out. First of all the container included a giant bone that filled the entire container and only left a small amount of menudo. What was left was bland and tasteless. It was supposed to be cooked in a red chili sauce. It might as well had been water. It's as if the dropped cans of homey and tripe into boiling water and served it. We can't be going back any time soon.

I've been coming here since they opened but haven't been in for a good while. I came in last night and the menu has changed. I like it a lot better. I had the birria plate. Very good.

Solid enough food, but nothing remarkable. Pork belly taco and potato and mole tacos were pretty good. Mexican companion like enchilada suisas. Chips were thick, flavor didn't wow. Patio was quiet and pleasant enough. Inside seemed noisy and dark.Parking: Street parking in the neighborhood took some searching.

I was going to give them 3 stars but they were better than most Mexican restaurants and they have molé. As a molé lover I've had many horrible experiences at some of my friends favorite restaurants because I didn't like their molé. So on the authenticity level this place gets a higher ranking for having a good molé. Unfortunately like most places the chicken is cooked separately from the sauce so the chicken is dry. Otherwise the service is very friendly but a bit slow. The restaurant itself is nice island has a great balance between a sketchy dive and you Tia's place that is trying hard to be classy.
