Love the vegan platter. It's perfect for 2 people. The staff is always very attentive.

Get the vegetarian sampler and the fried whole fish...I just wish the seating arrangement was a bit more comfortable and it was a little warmer...but it didn't have an effect on the amazing food!

Little Ethiopia has so many delicious restaurants but GIHON Ethiopian Kitchen is def the go to spot. They are always deliciously consistent and give more than enough food that's you'll have leftovers for multiple meals.

Please tell me you are opening back up 3/21/22. I have tried every single Ethiopian spot in San Diego and nothing compares.

I'll miss y'all Best food Good people That restaurant across street I believe ran them out They told me that they tried to buy their place they refused and than they go and be petty and rent a place across street !! Of course that creates competition. Two Ethiopian places across right from each other smh I will always support Gihon not that other place Hopefully Gihon will pop up somewhere else

What amazing food! I had their vegan platters. Man were they tasty. High quality food at a really good price! Also their complimentary sides are amazing.

This is a wonderful restaurant. The staff are universally pleasant and happy to help by answering questions about menu items. The food is delicious and expertly prepared. I've been ordering takeout all during the pandemic, the orders are always filled quickly and accurately. I am looking forward to Gihon reopening for inside dining.

Gihon never disappoints until now as they seem to be closed. Their hours have been inconsistent yet closed everyday for the past few weeks. Fantastic food. I hope they open.

Amazing vegetarian platter and salmon dinner, injira is always fresh and the flavor combinations are delightful.

Gihon is the best Ethiopian restaurant in SD and one of the best I have tried in 8-9 hotspot cities in USA like LA, Denver, SF, PDX, NY, etc. You really cannot go wrong with the cuisine in general but we love the food here. We have tried several veggie entrees and sides, and 2 staple chicken entrees (doro tibs, doro wat). The quality of the ingredients is top notch. It's reflective of the effort the owner pours into her cooking that she could actually perfect baklava, which is the best we have had in SD and El Cajon, believe it or not. Anyway, the food is always perfectly prepared, extremely fresh and so flavorful. The owner is currently doing double duty as the chef and she is wonderful. Highest recommendation.

AS OF JUNE 5, 2021 - I only recently noticed that this review is still posted. I"m not sure why it is still here though. This restaurant, now called GIHON, is an entirely different business run by entirely different people. My review from 2015 was of a horrible experience at an entirely different business. The new owners are great and when they re-open I look forward to dining there again.

I happened to come across this restaurant in looking through options in Doordash for Ethiopian food, and I am so glad I found this place! I was absolutely blown away by the serving size of the vegetarian combo - I have been known to single handedly take down an entire plate by myself, but I barely made a dent in my order. Plenty of delicious leftovers. The flavors, spices, and aroma are wonderful! This just became my new go to place for Ethiopian and I will definitely be spreading the word. Thank you for the amazing food!

Delicious food, the vegan combo is great for variety (more than many other Ethiopian restaurants) and the meat dishes (tibs and wats) have great spices and textures. Portions are perfect with some leftovers for smaller parties
