Wishing strength to get through these tough times and success to the owners and staff of this wonderful place! This is the only place in San Diego county that serves the food that I grew up with. This place feels like home to me, their food tastes like my mom's and their hospitality is something that I was used to since I was a kid! Keep it up, Samarkand! To those unfamiliar with Central Asian cuisine, I guarantee that this will be a great benchmark and hard to beat unless you're in the best restaurants in one of those beautiful countries of Central Asia. My personal favorites are: manty, laghman, plov (pilaf), lamb lula, chicken kabob, okroshka and... honestly the rest of the menu lol! Oh and make sure you try traditional homemade bread (lepeshka) it's amazing!

I was walking through the neighborhood on Friday and happened to see a sign for Samarkand Uzbek Café. I couldn't believe my eyes. I had searched for a Central Asian restaurant in San Diego when I moved here three years ago and came up with nothing. I decided to get take out that night, and wasn't disappointed. The laghman noodles, samsa, and fantastic Uzbek bread made me feel like I was back in Uzbekistan. The restaurant is set up outside in a tent in a parking lot behind the store fronts on El Cajon Blvd, very unassuming. Walking into the tent conjures the feeling of being in Uzbekistan, with the colorful cushions and table cloths. I'll definitely return. I cannot wait to try their plov/pilaf and manti!
Amazing food. Go with a group and order a bunch and share. We loved it all especially the honey cake.

I stumbled upon this place pretty randomly and was intrigued just because I had no idea what Uzbek cuisine consisted of! The waiter was so welcoming and was happy to give us his recommendations. We ordered the manti, pelmeni (the only item I had before and seemed to be a new menu item as it wasn't on the menu pictures on the other yelp reviews) chicken lula, lamb lula, and the beef lagman. They also brought out a complementary plate of orange and pineapple slices! This place is truly a San Diego gem as it seems there are only a handful of Uzbek restaurants in all of California. 10/10 I will recommend this place to all of my friends and anyone who wants to try a new cuisine!

A gem! Try it out for something different. Had the lagman and my word...the noodles and sauce were just perfection. The lamb samosa was also well cooked and not too gamey. Loved the atmosphere and how they are working in a creative way, while also maintaining public health guidelines. It's not the cheapest dinner but it sure was memorable, and delicious.
