It's a shame that they sold and then let the staff go. Definitely won't be back when they change in September

Stopped by to grab some sausages and they were amazing! It was late on a Sunday afternoon and I think the selection was a little less than mornings or maybe the beginning of the weekend but all the ones we got were awesome. I got the hubby some brats and he said they were the best he's ever had. I got me and my son a German naked one (can't remember exactly) but it was beef with Swiss cheese and bacon and it was to die for!! Definitely stop by and explore their menu!! They also have hot food and beer on tap.

My husband and I were interested in purchasing a whole cow (sourced from a CA farmer and butchered locally) and Heart and Trotter was great! Their website is straightforward and has all the information on cuts as well as where the meat is coming from. Daylon was incredibly helpful through the entire process. We placed our order and once the cow was in Daylon went over the cut sheet with my husband. He kept us informed when everything would be ready and was really flexible about pick up. I brought one large cooler and four small coolers and let me tell you that wasn't enough haha. Daylon let us borrow another large cooler which saved me a trip as we live up in Escondido. We were splitting the meat with two other friends and Daylon has very graciously divided everything up already. Each cut was neatly sealed in airtight wrapping and labeled. They were super efficient and clean. 10/10 would recommend and will absolutely be back before we get through all this meat!

Been there 3 times. Every single time I regret going! The customer service is just crap, you get treated like you're bothering everybody. Never going back to overpay for meat you can find everywhere.

This is the best butcher shop in town. You can ask for a "Texas style" brisket and they know what you're talking about!

The Heart and Trotter has some of the most high quality meat I've ever tasted, however you definitely have to come in knowing you're going to be spending $$$. I only come here for special meat occasions because of the price, for example a whole 3 lb chicken cost $20 or 1 lb of bacon is $15 I've been to their popup lunches on Sunday's which are amazing: carne asada tortas, tri tip, pulled pork sandwiches, lamb barbados tacos to name a few. The meat portions are always big, and the best part, fresh off the grill/smoker. They'll range in price but are are about $15. Super delicious, follow their IG to see what they do every weekend. They also advertise their specials only on IG and their email lists like BOGO pork chops or customer appreciation free 1 lb ground beef with purchase. The beef I've bought from here has been next level. I've bought New York Wagyu Steaks, tri-tip, and hotdogs. The quality is incomparable to a normal grocery store or even a healthy grocery store like Baron's or Whole Foods. I've always bought a pate from them but did not care for it, but maybe that's me not liking pate lol I do agree with other reviews that sometimes the guys working are not necessarily over the top customer service driven, but they have always been helpful and polite with me.

So grateful for these guys, every interaction with them is amazing. They are so knowledgeable, patient when answering questions and I love they are a whole animal butcher. Their quality of meat is the best of the best.

Great place with great service. Has good selection of meats for grilling and smoking. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. I always call ahead to verify if they have the meat I'm looking for in stock. If they don't currently have the meat, they have provided the date that it will be back in stock every time. Small butcher that provides to a large area, so recommend calling ahead. Best butcher around by far.

My love affair w this place has faded. Much like others have noted, customer service is just the pits here. It's a shame because they did the truly hard part: create a supply chain from great and ethical animal farms. And yet... it's not uncommon to walk in and find 5 people working yet no one available to take your order. Or they grind up some beef and it's not fatty enough to make a burger. So next time you ask and the guys says, "I don't know". Cool dude. But I'm about to drop a lot of cash here so maybe find out? I don't mean to inconvenience you and all but...I'm literally the only person in this place so maybe try and give a shrimp or two? Got some truly fantastic sausages here which they somehow charged me $5.50 for each one. Literally a single raw sausage is $5.50. That's just over the top. I'm done here and it's disappointing because others will do the same and we really only have one great butcher in San Diego and they seem hellbent on shooting themselves in the foot.

Disappointed in the service that was provided, I am by no means a steak connoisseur so when I walk in asking what you would recommend I expect to get treated a certain way especially if I'm dropping over a 100$ on meat . First and last time ever going here
I really wanted to like this butchery. I've been following them for months on Instagram but was never able to go because of my work schedule. I finally made the trek out here and felt the customer service was lacking by the guy that helped me. First impressions can be make or break. Because I have to go out of my way and pay more here than I would elsewhere, I'm not compelled to come back anytime soon. I haven't ruled it out because of one person's attitude, but felt ripped off when I left that I purchased food for at least 3 times what I normally pay and couldn't get passable customer service. I love you guys on Instagram. Until our second meating!

The staff was NOT helpful at all. The cashier was rude and talked down to me. I don't know much about meat and instead of being helpful, the cashier would turn around and laugh at every question I asked.

Excellent meat selection, knowledgeable butcher, please support this local business.Try one of their to-go sandwiches delicious!

- Businesses operating during the pandemic, "thank you" review #15* - Who: The Heart & Trotter What: A recent outing had me on the hunt for some really good meat to prepare for a special meal, which led me to The Heart & Trotter. Yep, they're open and operational all while adhering to the solutions to obstacles that the pandemic has dropped into our laps. You'll see a sign when you arrive only allowing three customers into the building at a time. There were a few people waiting outside minding their own business but staying orderly without having to actually assemble a line. Once inside you'll pick your meat! The supply wasn't overflowing but I was able to grab two filets. They did have three in the case but when realizing that was all they had I left it for another customer that will surely grab it later that day. Topped off with some Italian sausages and some bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs it proved to be a fruitful trip to the butcher. When: During operating hours. Please call to confirm that they are indeed open when looking to pick up what you need. One note, the butcher did say that they've been incredibly busy. - *As long as the world is in an unpredictable place with the coronavirus dictating our lives and schedules, I'm going to review businesses who are still operating to provide us some sense of normalcy, and this is one of those reviews. My reviews will be 100% positive when clearly indicated with the "Businesses during the pandemic" header and footer. Feel free to steal the format and do the same for the hard working businesses that you come across. -
