Fettuccine Carbonara is usually my go to at Volare. It is delicious!! Seasoning, texture, sauce, all perfectly put together and served in a large portion. I also had fried zucchini which was equally delicious.

A great llittle Italian restaurant! I found the food to be equal to the excellent Italian restaurants in Boston and NYC. Four of us all had great meals and the service was also very good. We has gnocchi, eggplant parm, chicken cacciatore and chicken picatta. All were fabulous and the prices are very reasonable! Try the delicious desserts! We highly recommend Volare!

Excellent food and people. The owner is impressive and personable. My wife and I eat here twice during the second week of November, 2025. Fantastic food quality, price, and service. This restaurant fed my Navy buddies and I in the mid-80's and is still owned by the same family. My Itailiana wife gives it 5-stars also. We are from Rochester, NY, pizza capital of the United States. Delicious sauce, pizza, egg plant and veal parm. Don't miss this one!!

It's been years since I eaten here. But that's the same thing I said the last time I ate there and that was 2008. The last time I ate there before that was 1981. Between 81 and 08 it hadn't changed.

I told my wife about this place many times before we finally made it out to San Diego for a vacation. It told the waitress how I used to eat here when I was at NTC and how the owners used to bring their sisters over from Sicily to waitress. Next thing I knew a lady came to the table and introduced herself as Anna. She was one of the sisters. She bought the place from her brothers.

I am hoping things haven't changed. I plan to make it back there. The food was the best in 81 and it was the best in 08.

I need to buy a couple of plane tickets. I need to get back to Volare.

HIDDEN (FORGOTTEN) GEM!
It is rare to see a true hidden gem. This Italian restaurant has been here since 1978. When the streets were busy with the foot traffic of customers from the Marine base across the street. New recruits and seasoned veterans, as well as their families.
Now many years later. The streets widened, barricades in place around the base, many businesses have come and gone. The neighbors are no longer trendy or appealing. Many in disrepair. Nearby parking is not easy to find, what little parking there is is cramped.
Inside, a narrow restaurant with the smells of Italian culinary mastery (not an exaggeration).
Service was always on time. No drink went empty. Order was delivered correct. And the food was absolutely fantastic (the photos are the best I can do to paint the flavor).
This restaurant is an absolute need-to-try place. To top it off, desert was great as well.
You should not allow the street view to sway your choice. I know... it is surrounded by repair shops and... other stuff. Those that know the place, know to ignore that for the reward. I saw many regulars come and go. I'm sure they won't appreciate me sharing their secret.
Take a taxi or Uber, the blinds are shut, ignore the traffic, enjoy life!

Volare has been my usual last stop before going to the airport. It's a locals favorite, no frills old school Italian restaurant. Large food and drink menu.Food is good and affordable, more importantly digestion friendly especially before a flight.Service is always friendly and quick. It's a great place for large and small groups equally. It's has a bit worn down and dark atmosphere. My only issue is pulling up in the parking lot. The restaurant is located in the middle of a few very busy major roads. If you're not familiar with the area, GPS may trick you.

When you say the restaurant closes at nine online maybe you should close at nine. Not stop seating people at 830 and close the kitchen right after. No where online for it say we “close” at 9, but actually we close at 830. Waste of time!!

Volare is a tried and true hole in the wall restaurant that feels like a time capsule. Not in the way that it displays itself, but the homey feel you get the moment you open the door.

I grew up in Navy Housing, right next to the base directly across from Volare. It had always been there since I was a kid, so I knew if it survived this long, it must be good.

My instinct didn't betray me, it's affordable, it's peaceful, it's a bit cramped, but most importantly, worth it.

Volare is a fantastic choice for anything, from a first date, to a night out. To the owners of this beloved family restaurant and the servers who work there, thank you for making it feel the way it feels to be inside of Volare. This little restaurant must feel exactly what it was like for Anton Ego to take the first bite of ratatouille.
