I was in the area when I spotted Bread n' Chu and I immediately started having cravings. It's a small shop and definitely for takeout. But, as with katsu sandos, you'll definitely want to eat it as soon as possible to get that full crispiness of the fried meat and the fluffiness of the bread. I went for the chicken katsu, thinking it would be light. This was definitely not light, as I got a very generous thick cut. Managing a full bite was a little bit of a challenge but it was still good and satisfying. The breading is great and the thick fluffy bread was on point. My only complaint is that the chicken was a little bit dry, but the sauce helps. I'd definitely like to try their other sandwiches, especially the golden truffle. Overall, I recommend checking out Bread n' Chu especially if you're looking for a sando to satisfy those cravings.

I'm not sure what happened to my initial review, but it seems to have disappeared. I visited most recently yesterday for lunch because I was running an errand in the Richmond neighborhood and was getting hungry. I remembered that this place had pretty good sandwiches. I scored parking right in front of their store around 1PM on a Tuesday. I ran in & thankfully there was no line, so I just ordered my pork Katsu sandwich and a choux (dessert) sandwich to eat later on. Prices have increased since my last visit by about $3 per sandwich. The pork katsu sandwich was warm, featured crispy katsu with shaved lettuce, katsu sauce & another sauce on pillowy soft crustless bread. Yum! In the evening, I had half of the Choux sandwich for dessert & the subtly sweet fluffy cream & fresh strawberries with the pillowy soft bread was perfect. Although their prices have increased, I would return for these two sandwiches. There isn't much ambience as this is a takeout store with order counter.

The tonkatsu sandwich was delicious! Served promptly. I had this delivered. Thank you for being such a good place!

Food was good. We are in kind of rush but they prepared so fast and fresh. I definitely recommend this cafe.

Chicken katsu was bland, the crust was somewhat flavorful but wouldn't get it again. Egg sandwich on the other hand was delicious & creamy and had flavors of dill/herbs. Fries were about $7, looked like the frozen kind & were nothing special. Would come back for the egg sandwich, love their bread too.

Last time I went to this place was nearly three years ago and the quality hasn't diminished. However, at the average price point of $17+ per sando, my wallet definitely cried a little. I was able to ignore that though because my tastebuds were crying in joy and the quality keeps me coming back. I usually get only the chicken katsu, but decided to try two other sandwiches today! I ended up liking the depth of flavor of the tonkatsu sando more than I thought so I think that'll be my new go-to. The cutlet was still quite crispy after a 30 min car ride. The cabbage and sauce were the perfect combination of sweet and savory, and I appreciate the sauce not being a spicy wasabi one like it is at most other joints. The bread was so soft and pillowy. Sometimes I dream about these sandos. The egg salad one was just okay to me--compared to the ones in Japan, it definitely tasted a lot eggier. I'd still come back for the other items though!

The chicken katsu sandwich was the only thing I ordered and I was really disappointed. The chicken had little to no flavor. Some of the blandest chicken I've ever had in my life. If you are coming here, I would advise you to try something else.

Bread wasn't as fluffy as I hoped and taste was okay - hard to compete with Breadbelly right next door

Best egg sandwich we had in a long time, delicious! The chicken katsu sandwich was such a treat. But...horrible coffee, the worst!

Neighborhood take out only sandwich shop. Known for its unique protein ingredients, both the unagi and chicken katsu tasted good and was filling. The size is big. The price is on the higher side so it's a nice occasional treat. The service is kind and quick. Inside is just a small hallway to order and wait. No restroom or any seating. Street parking could be an issue. It'd be great if they had the opportunity to expand to include seating. I think it'd be even more popular amongst yelpers

It's a super cute store and I love the concept, but the items that I got were mediocre. A very small sandwich with a good chunk of meat for ~$16-$17 is pricey and definitely not worth it. The sandwich I got was the chicken katsu sandwich and it was undercooked, you could literally see the pink in the middle. I mean the sandwich was cut in half, I'm not sure why they thought it was okay to serve it like this after they packed the sandwich. It makes me think they saw this and was like, here I don't care if you get sick. The strawberry sandwich was good, I have no complaints about the filling and the strawberries, it was not too sweet. The bread tasted a bit old but it was not bad, compared to the chicken katsu sandwich I would definitely prefer the strawberry sandwich.

This was a very fun try! My girlfriend and I had been looking for a japanese sando place for a while. We tried the tonkatsu, chicken katsu, egg salad, and the choux one. The tonkatsu one was my favorite as it was the perfect amount of chewy and not too dry. We felt that the chicken katsu was a bit drier than we'd liked but still good. The choux was probably our least favorite and would not get again because the dream was a little too thick for us and we preferred the savory ones more. Overall, the place is pretty much just pickup and to-go since it's very small, but it was a good try!

I've been waiting to come back to bread n chu for two years. My favorite sandwiches to get here are the choux and egg salad. We got the Choux, Egg Salad, Golden Truffle sandwiches. Choux - sweet custard sandwich with strawberries. The perfect dessert after finishing the savory sandwiches! Egg salad - I love the egg salad sandwich. The egg is cut into small pieces and pairs perfectly with the milk bread! Golden truffle - fried egg (tamago) with gold leaf and truffle. I did not enjoy this sandwich mainly because all the flavors did not appeal to me. The sandwich also spoiled quickly and turned green since we left it in the car for a few hours.
