Can't distinguish one Japanese restaurant food from another. Not here anyways. Seems, cooks went to same japanese-cooking school and never deviated. ?

We go here for Sushi. The fish tastes fresh and they have a good variety of classic rolls. Usually the staff are pretty attentive and orders arrive as expected.Parking: I usually park at the parking structure on 3rd and B street and walk over. S.Claremont St. Sometimes there is street parking depending on what time of day you go.

I have been coming since I was a kid. Whenever I visit home this is the first place I want to go. It’s some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. They often have hard to find toro that makes the visit always worth it. Incredible chef. Great and quick service. I can’t recommend enough.

Great sushi, really fresh both raw and cooked fish. Be careful where you sit though, as we called in a table and didn't realize they booked us in the traditional Japanese rooms where the tables were sunken, and you have to take your shoes off, and it was really hard for my parents to get in. Plus the entire restaurant was cold, everyone had their jackets on, and with your shoes off, your feet are cold the entire time while eating. Plus I don't like having my feet where other people's feet were previously, without shoes and maybe even socks. Next time we'll make sure to ask to sit at a regular table, and bring extra jackets. The Sapporo beer also could've been cooler. The sushi boat combo, fried oysters, hamachi kama, real crab hand roll, and salmon rolls all good. Futomaki was bland compared to other places, no pickled veggies in it.Friendly service, but very busy during dinner.

Great place. Took my date there for our first date night. Positive experience and wonderful atmosphere. They seated us quickly even though we arrive 10 minutes early for our reservation. Would come back again!

My husband and I are regulars here. Why? Because the fish is so fresh here. We usually get nigiris here over anything else. They have an omakase that may not be on the menu but you may ask for it.We normally sit at the bar and the Chef chats with us as he works away. He works pretty hard. I love how he can serve you a little some then make others their sushi..then notices you're done with your first part of your order. Then he will make your next. Glad it doesn't all come out at once. The rest of the staff are very attentive. They have a variety of fish.. some from Japan. You can taste the freshness from it. And HUGE portions of it too. Overall my favorite spot in San Mateo
One is our Go-To places for sushi. The portions are quite large and it's always fresh. My son loves the owner and often ask me if he could go to this place for sushi. I love the salmon, seared salmon, scallop, and hamachi nigiri. I also like any specials that the chef has to offer. It's ran by a nice family and I always feel welcomed whether I'm going on my own or with my family.

Best place for Sushi in San Mateo! Go here!Parking: Lots of construction in this area
This place is a 4-star restaurant if you order takeout rather than dining in. However, I have to give this place a 3-star rating after dining in yesterday. First, their service isn’t commensurate to the price of the items listed on their menu. Secondly, I didn’t particularly find the restaurant to be clean. Lastly, the food is above average, but the dining experience was very mediocre.

I've been to many Japanese restaurants in the peninsula and this spot is definitely our go to place for rolls and nigiri. You can customize your own omakase for much less than a fancy place. For nigiri, we always order these:Seared sake toro, oyster bombs, hamachi, scallops, salmon, For rolls, we like these:Double unagi Hokkaido rollLion kingNegitoro It's always the same chef (Steve) and the same waitresses when we go and service has always been very on point. If you order to go, stick with the rolls! The nigiri should be eaten at the restaurant. You can substitute the imitation crab for real crab for $3- worth it! Chef Steve is very accommodating. One of our friends doesn't like mayo and he was able to do a substitute for that! We eat here at least 2x a month and all of our friends love it here too. There's private Japanese style rooms where you take off your shoes for privacy with larger groups 6+.
