We ordered 2 dozens of pink cupcakes and asked for the similar as website/review pictures have. You can see from the pictures that what we received is a completely different quality of the decor. It looks very messy and cheap. In addition, half of the cupcakes were overfilled and had a bad shape that could be easily fixed during the cooking but looks like the baker did not care. The cupcakes tasted as the cheapest Safeway stuff. I would avoid this place at all cost.$72 for 24 cupcakes

I haven't had such dry cupcakes in a long time. First and last time trying Kathy's. I can see why everyone said that the cupcakes are dry. If you get any cupcakes here, be prepared to have a glass of water/milk nearby.

Kathy and her team did an amazing job. They were able to exactly design the cake we wanted. They also delivered it to the location.

Giving a 4-star rating because I don't want to damage their business, however I wouldn't use them again for a few reasons. 1. Kathy is extremely hard to get a hold of, she never returns your phone calls and when you email she'll take daaaays to reply. If you're lucky to have her reply. I had to go in to ask questions. Which should have been a red flag for me and I should have gone with someone else. My bad. - when you are trying to plan for a party, this behavior is frustrating. 2. The cake was dry, flaky and super sweet. The strawberry shortcake middle was nonexistent.. maybe like a few thiiiiinly slices strawberries. - I asked if the cake would be on the less sweet side and she said no. - Decided to go with her based on all her positive reviews and that she's a woman owned small business. 3. The cake was for my baby boy turning 1. I asked for musical instruments and to be in "boy" colors, and no rainbows (rainbow color order) at all. I specified this many times. I wanted blue/green gradation for the xylophone. That's not what we got. I'll post the picture of what they made us. It looks like a child made this that didn't follow our instructions. - the smash cake was so hard for my baby and we ended up throwing it away. Wanted to support this local business but I wouldn't recommend Kathy's Creative Kakes and won't use them again.

I first experienced one of Kathy’s cakes when my fiancé got it for my birthday! It was delicious, moist, light, zesty, not too sweet, and had berries interspersed—just how I like it! We loved it so much that we decided to get the same cake for our Sonoma wedding! Kathy was a pleasure to work with and her prices are surprisingly very affordable!! We are beyond thrilled with how it came out! Thank you so much Kathy!!!

After a less than enjoyable experience at whole food's bakery, I came to Kathy's creative cakes for a last minute order to save my daughter's birthday. I have been a regular customer here for years and this is by far the best and kindest bakery in San Mateo, with a baking team that will never fail to pleasantly surprise you. Every cake and cupcake ordered from here has been spectacular.

Cute holiday pop-up stop inside the mall to decorate your gingerbread houses. They will be open until the 22nd if you are interested in having a fun spot to build your gingerbread house and not worry about the mess. What makes this place special is that all their cookies are baked fresh. They also have sugar cookies and other holiday cookies that you can decorate, not just gingerbread houses. I've never had fresh gingerbread cookies. We were given free samples of cute mini bite-sized gingerbread men. I've only seen the mass-produced houses pre-packaged, ready to ship. Those gingerbread houses we've decorated in the past, we never ate. So it was refreshing to see someone making it fresh.

I ordered a Minnie birthday cake without seeing a picture since they didn't have one. The cake turned out exactly how I expected. Great art work and excellent service. Thank you so much! I will definitely purchase more birthday cakes from Kathy. One thing I wish they could do better in the future is to make the cake firmer so that it stays in one piece after being cut into smaller pieces.

I hate leaving negative reviews and added a star because the lady was so nice, but my experience was so disappointing and I'm still really bothered by what happened. My regular cake place was on vacation and this place was highly recommended. I sent an email a few months in advance with an inquiry and didn't hear back so I called. Then got an email confirmation saying my inspo (a pic of a cake and the decoration theme) were cute and could definitely be done, a few questions about preferences. A good chunk of time went by without a response to my email so I emailed again trying to confirm and the owner responded saying we are all good, she was busy and would call for credit card info soon. The week of the party I still hadn't heard anything and hadn't received info I had asked for about timing of pickup. I called and left a voicemail, then tried again the next day when I didn't hear back. I reached the owner who seemed aware of my order, we discussed preferences again, I paid, and confirmed 9 am pickup that Sunday. I also confirmed that the cake would be refrigerated and not need to be in the fridge the morning of our party. At 8:50 am on the day of the party I got a call "the cake is not ready." We were already on our way to pick it up. I asked how soon it would be ready and they asked what the latest I could receive it would be. I said 11:30 and they offered to deliver it to my house by then. Nothing happened and the cake hadn't arrived by about 12 once the party was well underway and so I called again and they said it was coming soon. A nice young woman did deliver it a few minutes later. I think the shop may have just forgotten about our order completely and whipped it up at the last minute? The decoration inspo I had sent and discussed was not included at all, the cake very clearly had never been refrigerated, it was slanting severely to the back, the frosting was smooshed and also cracked. It slanted more and more by the time it was time to be served. My daughter is only 3 so I tried to make the best of it and we still sang happy birthday but as I tried to cut and serve the cake it just completely slid and fell apart into a crumble. I pretty much just wanted to cry about what a stressful mess it all turned out to be. On a plus note, a few people who tried the crumbled bits said it tasted really good. I'm sure businesses get busy and make oversights, but I would think all of my outreach would have cleared anything up? They were super nice throughout all of our contact.

Great cake like always, we tried a new flavor caramel with the Swiss meringue frosting and we all enjoyed it, and the decorations were better than expected

My daughter had her 13th birthday in this place, and she said, " it's one of the best birthday experiences for her and her friends."

Dry cupcake with terrible tasting frosting. I am so sad to say but I just think that people should know before paying $4 per cupcake.
