Delicious fish and chips. Cold beer. The night I went, Kareokee! If you are trying to have a good time, this is the place.

I hardly ever write a review, but what the hell. Genuinely the first ever establishment where I have walked into and been smacked by a wall of stench that is human piss. You think it's bad when you walk in? Go to the bar and your eyes are **literally** watering at how strong it is. How is this place passing code???? There's no way in hell this is sanitary. Went to try out new bars and I would rather get tortured than to come back here. Please clean this place.

Service is slow early on Friday night. Food is way below average, greasy fried food from a dirty kitchen. I’m sure roaches dominate this place at night. The crowd is the worst, low brow degenerates. Mutants from Chernobyl, best to stay away. Won’t be back.

I have been coming here since it was Prince of Wales, usually on Tuesday evenings when the Silicon Gulch Jazz Band (Trad Jazz) plays. I like the selection of beers and ciders on tap, the fish & chips, the burgers, and the general "dive pub" feel of the place. I do not like the actual atmosphere - the cigar/cigarette/vape smoke that comes in from the back patio. They need to improve the ventilation somehow.Street parking only, usually easy after work hours.

This is my favorite watering hole and fish and chips joint in the bay. You got to go down and check it out yourself it is most certainly worth the trip. I guarantee they do not disappoint. Whether it be great conversation great food or great drinks this is the place.

I spent the week in San Mateo for work this summer and almost every day, I'd walk down to the Swingin Door for some seafood and margaritas. Can't recommend them enough. Bartenders were friendly, food was great, ambiance was great. Months after that work trip I still have fond memories of the Swingin Door. Will absolutely make a point to stop by next time I'm in Cali.

What a wonderful old pub atmosphere at The Swinging Door! My dining partner and I sat near the fire enjoying Boddington's beers. We both had fish and chips which were perfectly prepared. I really can't say enough good things - what a gem this is! I felt transported to Britain. Highly recommended.

The fish and chips were amazing! Our server last night took a shot both times we ordered a drink. Her mouth was nasty she thru out the f bomb and argued with us about adding a salad. " don't you know what fish and chip is" repeating herself. I wanted to leave bit my man settled. Me down.Anyway food was great. The atmosphere was nostalgic.

Overall the food was expensive for the quality. We bought a hamburger to share and paid $3.65 for the steak fries. There were only 16 fries (2/3s of which were very small) and they were very bland! The onion rings were slightly better flavor wise. The order was average to small in size… not enough for sharing really. The beer was good.

Best burger I have had in ages! Staff very friendly. Bar area is dark, but the patio area is delightful. I was there with 12-14 singers and musicians, and it was a terrific place to gather and sing folk songs. They also have a nice upstairs room that you can probably reserve. Parking a little tough, but El Camino is just a block away, and I have always found parking.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon and I’m not sure if they just opened, It was 3:30 PM ordered two double tequila and pineapple drinks. Never expect to get a strong drink from this place as they have an electronic device on the top of the bottles preventing the bartender from giving you anything more than a shot or less in your drink at $24 a cocktail I will be taking my dollars somewhere else, no wonder the bar is empty and destined to be closed if they carry on with this price gouging of customers. With that said, the lady serving was very nice and explained it was nothing to do with her and it was management to have implemented this way of serving drinks as she gets a text message and not a very nice one if she pours over, there’s plenty of bars in the city that would gladly take your money and give you a nice drink and decent pour! on top of that, the pineapple juice came out of a squirt gun theyhave for mixers. at that price, how hard could it be to crack open a can of dole pineapple juice and at least give real pineapple juice. Screw this place don’t waste your time. Also had the food here in the past and it’s absolute garbage. before you look at all the five star reviews and four-star reviews, they are from a year to four years ago. This place is obviously gone really downhill.
