We could not decide if we wanted to stay in Sonoma or Napa. We're glad we stayed in Sonoma and found the Fairmont. It is an older hotel and comes with its charm. The staff was outstanding, luved the wine tasting each evening and splurged and had dinner at Sante (their restaurant). Sante was superb! It was great that they have good bikes that you can use and a shuttle that goes into town on on-going basis. We spent the last afternoon at their spa, which was divine. If you are interested in a spa treatment, be sure to schedule ahead of time!

I had a nice massage, but it certainly was not firm, as advertised. It was overpriced! I do not understand why I was charged a spa facility fee, either. I stayed at the aging hotel and don’t think the spa compares to others I have visited in the wine country.

My sister and I were only there for approximately 18 hours and found the staff and accommodations to be very nice, however, very expensive. Was it worth the cost? I would say definitely not. We were unable to use most of the facilities (pool) since the weather was not very cooperative. We did take the private shuttle into town; which was excellent. Eric, the driver, was extremely accommodating. For the price we paid (over $1000 for 1 night) we should have been offered a complimentary breakfast. But as they say, live and learn.

Starting at the beginning at check in. The staff was nice. We had gift certificates for the massages and had the confirmation emails with us. However, we did not have the printed out scan codes. Which we apparently needed and was not made clear or even mentioned at all in the confirmation emails. We even had the receipt from purchasing the certificates and even that wasn't enough. In this digital age, this was very surprising and turned out to be quite the hassle. The guy said he had to call somewhere far away to try to sort it out. It made us all feel badly that we didn't have our papers with us. Not a nice way to feel at the start. So, I would highly suggest that scan bars or QR codes for certificates are included in confirmation emails are implemented in the future to avoid this. The locker rooms were clean and fine. Lockers were easy to use. The pools were very nice. The massage was incredible. The guy who did mine did a wonderful job. The only criticisms I have for the massage part has nothing to do with the massage itself. Rather with the fact that because many people go to the pool right before the massage, my robe had gotten wet. The rooms should either have towel warmers that warm and dry the robes during the massage, or fresh robes should be provided. Putting on a wet, cold robe after the massage was not pleasant. Then I put on the sandals which, where very, very slippery when your feet had oil on them. I felt unsteady and like they were dangerous, and I am young. I can only imagine that my mom who was there and other older people feel very uneasy walking on those slippery sandals after and they seem like an accident waiting to happen.

…and more. If you’re planning a wedding in the California wine country, the Sonoma Mission in is the place to be! My husband (of five days) and I desired an intimate wedding in a beautiful location, surrounded by 40 people we love. We chose the Sonoma Mission Inn because it combines old-world elegance, wine country amenities, rustic charm, and great food. We know the hotel well because we live in the next county, and our family has enjoyed many joyous occasions there, including my nieces' wedding for 150 people at the golf club. This time the hotel staff outdid themselves. Because we're in our seventies, it was a bit of a shotgun wedding, taking place within two months of our initial contact. The event planning team did everything possible to graciously streamline details that usually take months. During the following six weeks, the guest list more than doubled, and the staff was amazingly flexible and graciously reworked logistics numerous times. Everything about the wedding was magical. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious and plentiful, the room for the ceremony and dinner was lovely, there was never a wait at the bar, and they served 94 meals and paid careful attention to our gluten-free, lactose intolerant, diabetic, and kosher guests! Even with 94 guests, we had our intimate wedding. Everyone had a fabulous time. In addition to the wedding of our dreams, it was even more special because twenty-two guests stayed at the hotel with us.

Look for the Sonoma Mission Gardens (851 Craig Avenue, Sonoma, CA) near here.
