We visited a few years ago, in 2018 and bought several bottles of Red Barn Red. Tonight 2/15/2025, I opened our last bottle. It held its color and flavor. We are really enjoying this lovely wine. I think it's time to visit Truckee, again. Cheers!

Showed up at Truckee without a reservation, early on a Friday afternoon. They were open but had a company party going on, unbeknown to us, and not posted on their website. Tom treated us very well he was very accommodating, knowledgeable and kind. The owner was not the same, we ordered wines to be shipped and she took over from Tom and rushed the check-out process. Glad Tom gave us the one-on-one experience.

Visited Teuckee River Winery for my friend's birthday celebration because it had great reviews on Google. However, our experience was anything but great. Our host, gentleman with the glasses (forgot the name), was not very friendly, welcoming or helpful. The entire experience felt rushed and left a bad taste.

When asked about wine recommendations, our host said "the one in my glass" and proceeds to not explain anything. Every conversation and encounter was like talking to a robot reading from a script because it was rehearsed.

At one point, the host accidentally gave us the wrong wine in our tasting glass. The host notices and says that he will get the right one. For us, not wanting to waste wine and experience a different wine from their menu was a treat. So, we did what anyone would do, drink the mistaken wine. Our host comes back with the correct wine, abruptly grabs the wine glass with the incorrect wine, and proceeds to throw it to the bush without asking if we are drinking it.

The only save and grace for this place was the great weather, corn hole, and the autumn leaves.

I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a unique experience with great customer service.

Edit: October 2024
Katy was able to give us a birthday discount to help with the experience. Changed from 2 stars to 3 stars.

Truckee River Winery is a boutique winery located in the town of Truckee, California, in the North Lake Tahoe.

It's known for producing a variety of wines, often sourced from local vineyards in the Sierra Foothills and surrounding areas.

They have a small gift shop, overall it's a cute winery for a quick wine tasting!

Great experience for a great price! Only $25 and you get 6 tastings (big pours) with a souvenir glass. Property is really nice and the staff is so friendly. Will come back any time I visit Truckee!

Visited here a couple of times. Like the master platter to mix with whatever wine we're drinking. Sitting outside on a nice day swilling wine and eating cheese...very nice. Staff is very friendly, especially Brittany, she is the bomb!!! Will return when in the neighborhood.

We came in on a Saturday evening around 5:30 for a glass of wine. Someone let their 40+lb dog lay right in front of the pretty small bar so no one could stand (enough space for 2-3ppl) and the staff didn't say anything which was the first red flag. Someone scooted over a little so the two of us could stand by the register and wait to be acknowledged. Took a good 2 minutes while the girl was typing on the register screen right in front of us to even say she'd be right with us...almost 10 minutes later she's throwing herself at a guy who's trying to get out of there after paying, meanwhile we still haven't even seen a wine menu yet. We drove down the street to another bar where we got good service and got to enjoy the last few minutes of happy hour. I would definitely recommend this "winery"/shack with wine taps to someone I didn't like.
