We stopped here for lunch. We were seated right away and were offered the chips and salsa. As another review mentioned, the chips are a bit thick but they taste good. Personally I wasn't a fan of the second salsa(?). We had the carnitas plate and steak tacos and the food was delicious! The waitress was attentive and friendly. Would definitely keep the restaurant in mind during next time we're in this part of the country!

Had the chicharron burrito. Never had soggy chicharron before and I never want it again. Supposed to be crispy guys. And it wasn't like it got limp from sitting it was cooked to be that way. Kinda like eating a chewy piece of calamari?

Every every time we have eaten at EL Jacal it's been great! my only small complaint is I feel the chips are a little too thick. Don't get me wrong. They've got a great flavor! Everything we've tried from tacos to fajitas have been wonderful! The staff is always on point. The new location is really great! Probably one of the better Mexican places in Sterling!

My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant 3 times and honestly I'm not impressed. I really wanted to be because there are very few Mexican restaurants in town. The first time I was trying to stay on the keto diet I was doing and described the dish I was looking for which I have had at many other Mexican restaurants in the past (Pollo A La Crema) and they had no idea what I was talking about and had a very hard time working with me on this diet so I decided to have a cheat day and got the enchiladas. They were okay, no big complaints. The second time was take out on our anniversary and I ordered online. The steak tacos I ordered were advertised with onion and cilantro on them which is standard so no issue IF they had actually had any of that on them, which they didn't. That was a huge disappointment and I didn't end up eating them. We went in person today and I tried to give the tacos one more chance. The waitress asked if I wanted the onions and cilantro, I said yes and was served without them AGAIN. We were there in person so I just asked her to bring me sides of them and built up my own tacos. After finally tasting them I found that the steak was pretty lame in itself. Then there was the "fried ice cream" which was just ice cream which was definitely not fried at all, just had a bunch of cereal all over it. I know sometimes that can be fried with cork flakes broken up, but this was not that. Really just lazy or a rip off. My husband got a smothered burrito all 3 times and he said it was okay but nothing special. Only gave 2 stars because the waitress was very kind. This place is definitely NOT worth the money and we will not be coming back. Bummed we tried this many times tbh. Plus, we are pretty sure we got charged for the chips and salsa. Said so on the menus we got AFTER we were asked if we wanted them. Big time rip off. No thanks!Dietary restrictions: Not impressed.

Food was delicious, very authentic Mexican food, the place was really cozy, I felt like if I was in someone's house and our server was friendly. Restrooms were very clean, I really appreciate that. The only negative thing was about the host or manager I'm not sure about that, he was in the front, he was not welcoming or friendly at all, that made me feel uncomfortable.
