“We ordered the battered fish tacos and grilled shrimp tacos. Everything was delicious. The wait staff is super friendly and attentive. It was packed in there and almost closing time when we went, but to see all the staff work together and get everyone taken care of quickly and efficiently was cool to watch and experience. The black beans are DELICIOUS! The Zucchini was grilled to perfection. If you haven't tried the grilled corn, do it... you won't regret it! The fries were PERFECT... the crunchiness was uniform on all of them, not a soggy one on the plate!”

And every time she recommend something to me or takes me somewhere to eat, it's awesome. The food is unbelievable. The service is friendly and top bar. The drinks are the bomb. The atmosphere is great. I was very happy both times. I would go back again in a minute! And definitely ask James to be your server. He was the best server ever last night. “Shabu Shabu is our special date night meal. We like to seak it out wherever we travel to. We really enjoyed our meal here, portions (ordered large meat) were good and ingredients were fresh. This is the first Shabu Shabu I have visited that did not have bok choy and that's my favorite veggie I was disappointed. But they have all the other ingredients, excellent broths and variety of sauces, even egg for dipping. We ate here on a busy Saturday night, it felt like a cafeteria with how the business is run, very efficient but no ambiance for the cost of the meal.”

“During my recent visit to Habana, I was thoroughly impressed with the outstanding level of hospitality provided. The ambiance of the place immediately sets a welcoming tone, but what truly set our experience apart was the exceptional service. After a brief wait, the manager personally approached us, showcasing their attentive and caring approach towards guests. Not only did they ensure our comfort, but they also generously took care of an appetizer and drinks for us. This gesture of kindness and the manager’s effort to go above and beyond left a lasting impression on us. The food was delicious, and the overall atmosphere was delightful, but it was the warmth and professionalism of the staff, especially the manager, that made our visit unforgettable. I wholeheartedly recommend Habana to anyone looking for a dining experience that excels in both quality and hospitality. Five stars all the way!”

“The food was AMAZING, the Croque Madame delicious, Ladies Who Lunch salad was super size and stellar, Spanish octopus so flavorful! Our server was really great and cheerful. I took off one star on Atmosphere because the music was not only loud but terrible and not appropriate at all for a lovely French bistro. Listening to MC Hammer and Billy Idol whilst I try to enjoy a Parisian lunch just didn't set the right atmosphere at all. A little French Cafe music please!”

Kashiwa Ramen 1420C Baker St, Costa Mesa Ramen • $$
1420C Baker St, Costa Mesa

“I really can't say enough about how good Kashiwa Ramen is; I love it so much I've eaten here several times in the last two weeks. This has to be one of the best ramen spots in OC currently. It originally started in Japan and came over to the States. In terms of quality, it definitely seems authentic.I've tried several items on the menu, and every time, it's delicious. I highly recommend dining in, but even if you order to go, or through doordash, it always comes piping hot and high quality.Today, I tried the Tsukumen, which is hard to find at other shops because it is a traditional dipping noodle where you dip it in the soup. I would highly recommend trying their tonkatsu ramen, although they also have other great items like smaller portion chashu rice bowls, which I swear the meat is so soft and tender. The chashu pork comes out great every time. The soft boiled egg is perfection. Both the straight and wavy noodles are wonderful. They also have a swirl broth, which is absolutely delicious; it's a mix of their pork and chicken broth together. They also have green tea, which tastes really crisp and fresh. They also have chicken if you don't eat pork.Overall, I really love Kashiwa and plan to continue frequenting it. The only critique I can give is that I wish the waitresses would check in on the tables at least once or twice every so often. Everyone is so kind and polite and the service is very fast. Dining by myself, i am in and out in under 30 minutes or so.Thank you so much for the wonderful meals, I plan to continue coming here in the future, and I hope more people come too.Vegetarian options: They do have tofu as protein for all ramen, miso ramen, sea kelp ramen, and other various side dishes like egg on rice.I would double-check with the waitresses to make sure the broth is 100% vegetarian.Dietary restrictions: If you do not eat pork, they have chicken as a protein topping as well.Parking: Big parking lot in a busy shopping center.Kid-friendliness: There are probably not a ton of options for kids, but if your kids are more adventurous, im sure they would enjoy it. I believe I've seen kids eating pretty plain ramen, just noodles and broth.Wheelchair accessibility: I'm pretty sure it's accessible to get in, but it is a small store and pretty tight. You may be able to fit your wheel chair at the counter if you ask.”

I think it was beef, similar to Chinese clay pot but ingredients seemed more premium- fresh, light, and delicious than typical Chinese clay pot. My friend called to make a reservation, as space is limited. I'm told that once they reach the limit, no more seating for that evening. No walk-ins, at least not when we were there on a weekend. What makes Costa a goto destination is the service. Hector went above and beyond to make our lunch memorable. When we ask for a taste of a red wine, he gave us the others to compare without asking. The Lomo Salto was juicy with crispy onions and vibrant with cherry tomatoes with a lovely Unami based sauce. The pappas came out pipping hot.. crispy on the outside with a savory beef inside. First of all, the biscuits were flaky, crumbly, and moist; topped with creamy gravy that had cubed bacon in it. I’m hoping that they will add their biscuits to their permanent menu. The second special dish is similar to one of their regular menu, the only diff is the protein that comes with it. This special comes with chorizo; meanwhile, the regular southern eggs benedict comes with grilled corned beef. The combination of chorizo, brioche, crispy potato cakes, poached eggs, and chipotle hollandaise was fabulous.”

But it is Onotria, the same owner and chef as the previous iteration of Onotria that has been one of the most highly regarded restaurants in Orange County - and definitely on of the best Italian restaurants in the county for many years. The original Onotria took a hiatus for a few years but is back now in its new location with excellent food - perhaps now a little more innovative and modern. The service also excellent with a little more warmth and attentiveness thrown in, perhaps a consequence of the small venue. There were four of us, we all sampled each other's food and all agreed that it was outstanding as was the service. It's great to have Onotria back. It's definitely one of the "must try " Italian restaurants in The OC.”

The food is tasty (the starters were perfect little bites and the catch of the day was a Dover sole over jasmine rice that was so buttery and tender), the ambience is beautiful and the service was excellent. Looking forward to coming again in soon.”

“There is no sign on the outside and you have to go in the parking area to see the shop. I have been buying Wilson coffee from Fermentation Farm and I have always thought it's just coffee beans and tea packages and not over the counter coffee. Well now I was happy to see they have over the counter coffee. I was asking Matt how long has the counter been open and he said 12 years. And I was shocked as I always thought it's only a coffee roaster place. He said this is the normal reaction of folks coming in and ordering coffee. I know Wilson coffee is passionate about coffee roasting and having a cup of coffee feels like as fresh as I can get. You know where the beans are being roasted. The cool thing about this place is it's simplicity and attention to the coffee bean. No frills, just the best coffee bean in the neighborhood.”

The sushi itself was pretty good. I wouldn't compare it to the most authentic sushi I've had but it was pretty tasty. They have an all you can eat special that I would love to try next time. The service again was okay. I think we had a new server who was learning about the sushi itself and what all came in the rolls served but if you can look past that, it was all in all a nice time. I'd come back for another visit!”

“I stumbled upon Three-13 Bar quite serendipitously, post-haircut, and what a delightful discovery it was! Nestled off West 19th Street, this gem is part of a vibrant row dedicated to nightlife and entertainment. Upon entering, I was greeted by the comfortable buzz of a busy bar, not overwhelming but just lively enough. Shannon, the owner, was manning the bar and her welcoming presence added to the overall good vibes. The place is well-laid out with large wall booths and high tables, perfect for groups or solo visitors like me. A key feature for any sports enthusiast is the multiple TVs showcasing various sports, ensuring you don't miss out on any action. Moreover, the music set the tone - all thanks to an on-demand jukebox that lets patrons be the DJ. An unexpected highlight of my visit was crossing paths with a group celebrating a birthday. Their infectious joy and camaraderie were contagious, and they kindly brought me into their fold, turning a solo drink into a mini-celebration. I ventured in during the mid-afternoon, so the nighttime vibe remains a mystery. However, based on this experience, I'm eager to return with friends and uncover what Three-13 Bar has to offer as the night unfolds. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a laid-back spot with great energy and a sense of community. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Three-13 is definitely worth a visit!”

“Went yesterday to check this place out. Ordered Bahn Mi with Dip. The dip was not pleasant tasting. I assumed it was Pho broth. It was not. The second item was Chicken curry and it was superb! Perfect balance of coconut, lemongrass and curry that did not overwhelm. A beautiful marriage! Also ordered papaya salad and spicy mango salad. Papaya lacked flavor of any kind: sour, salty, spicy. Bland. Mango was however tasty, fresh and zesty. It complimented both the bahn mi and the curry. Need to work on the papaya salad though. Fir drinks we ordered a herbal lemonade? and Vietnamese coffee. Very good especially the coffee had none of that cigarette butt burnt aftertaste which I hate! It tasted like the old style Vietnamese drip coffee, fine and smooth. The packaging should be noted and complimented. All the dishware were paper except for the drinks which were plastic. Even the lids were paper! Thank you for being eco-conscious! The ambience is outdoorsy with plants and trees providing shade and some degree of privacy. Felt like a little oasis in a commercial complex called the Campus which has various businesses like fitness center, clothing stores and other eateries. My ONLY issue is with parking. We tried in vain to find space but after going around twice, decided to leave the car with a valet service which charged flat $7. People in their cars were blocking the lanes hoping for someone to leave. One asked if we were leaving and told them "Valet". Not worth wasting time to save $7 when most seemed to afford fancy cars! Yeah, parking. That would be the only deterrent to comeback, to save $7 for parking.”

You'd have to come back for either two visits or save your stomach for a big lunch to try some of their classics : the pastrami & the turkey club. Ask for the pastrami grilled with the cheese melted well (you can't go wrong with some extra pastrami as well ) or a turkey club on a baguette with everything and throw some sprouts in there as well! Cost is $115 plus 23% service charge and $5 order fee.The presentation of the tower for the afternoon tea items was beautiful! My favorites were the beet-cured salmon, Maine lobster eclair, and the chicken barquette. These were so flavorful! The Persian cucumber and radish & watercress were just ok - it had too much cream cheese/butter. The caviar deviled egg was solid, but wasn’t astounding. My least favorite was the truffle brie since I personally don’t like brie. The chocolate desserts were my fave! The other desserts tasted pretty standard. I tried the Phoenix Jasmine Pearls tea. I was expecting a stronger chestnut taste, but it just tasted like regular green tea. Also got the Yves Saint Laurent cocktail, which was sweet and tasty.”

“What a gem! Had to go to Costa Mesa for a work conference and discovered this place (thanks to other reviews), and it did not disappoint from service to the food!!!We started with some nigiri pieces. The rice and the fish were prepared with care. The aburi salmon belly just melted in our mouths. A table next to us, who seemed to be loyal & frequent customers ordered 50 pieces! Then we proceeded to bento lunches (such great value) and ate until our hearts content. Great combos from teriyaki, udon, karage (perfectly fried juicy pieces of chicken) and donkatsu to sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi combos as well.Everyone from the chefs, service members and other customers were happy and laughing during our meals. This was a tough meal to beat since every other business lunch and dinner afterwards seemed to pale in comparison. Our friends went back before their flights instead of free lunches provided by the convention.Vegetarian options: There are salads, veggie rolls and non-meat noodle dishes, although ask about the broth if they use fish sauce or flakes.Parking: It is at the end of a open strip mall so plenty of parking usually.”

“I went to this pizza place and there was a man and his pet rat in front of me in line, and OMG OMG OMG OMG they took forever to order. I know this isn’t the establishments fault but they really need to tell some customers to hurry up when ordering. I swear to the lord this rat was taking a whole millennia to order their meal, and was doing the gritty all over the restaurant. As the line kept getting longer and longer and longer and longer and longer and longer and longer and longer and longer and longer the customers started getting mad at ME for not telling the people in-front of me to hurry up. At this point I’d had enough of these people, so I told them they didn’t have all day to order. Then the dad gave me the most fierce stare into my eyes and said “ I CAN TAKE AS LONG AS I WANT, AND YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL ME TO ORDER FASTER.” I was too scared to say anything back to the man because at this point he looked like he was going to eat my soul. On the other hand the rat starting foaming from their mouth like a rabid dog, and bitting at my feet. So I ran as fast as I can from the two, but then they started to chase me. The rat was the faster of the two, so they caught up to me and I had to fight them off. They started to bite my feet again (I have rabies now?) but I was able to hit the rat with a left hook to their jaw which scared them off, “Now it’s just me and you” I said to the man, as he approached me. He answered “HOW DARE YOU HIT MY RAT LIKE THAT YOU MONSTER.” The man proceeded to charge at me at full speed but I managed to dodge the original attack, but he isn’t a quitter so he came back. But he wasn’t expecting me to use my ONE FOR ALL quirk and I Detroit smashed him to oblivion. I have to say this was craziest experience I’ve ever had a pizza restaurant.”

“The wife and I tried Hole Smokes last night. We tried a couple apps and the Tray 4 Two so that we could get a few different meats to try. The fried pickles were really good with both the chipotle sauce and with ranch. I liked the chipotle better. The honey glazed burnt ends were ok- very tender and juicy, but lacked a bit of flavor. For the meats we had a sausage link, brisket and tritip. The link was good- wife really liked it a lot. The brisket was maybe the best we've had- very tender, juicy and some good flavor. The tritip was very good and had a beautiful smoke ring. For the sides, we tried the cornbread cake, brussel sprouts, and French fries. Was surprise that the cornbread was cold. We liked the flavor, and my wife liked the cinnamon butter (i preferred no butter, but I'm not as big a cinnamon fan as my wife). The sprouts were great and loved the glaze that was on them. The fries were really good as well. Looking forward to bringing the kids back and trying a few more things. Service was great and on top of things for refills, sauce, etc.”
