“We ordered the battered fish tacos and grilled shrimp tacos. Everything was delicious. The wait staff is super friendly and attentive. It was packed in there and almost closing time when we went, but to see all the staff work together and get everyone taken care of quickly and efficiently was cool to watch and experience. The black beans are DELICIOUS! The Zucchini was grilled to perfection. If you haven't tried the grilled corn, do it... you won't regret it! The fries were PERFECT... the crunchiness was uniform on all of them, not a soggy one on the plate!”

“I love it here. The food is always great, the atmosphere give off the true authentic Italian feeling. There is always a ton of food, in true Italian fashion so it is likely you are going to have leftovers. It is a bit pricey but with that said, you are usually getting more than one meals worth of food so it is worth it. I believe they also have a lunch special menu which is great, or at least they used to. Worth a look into.”

And every time she recommend something to me or takes me somewhere to eat, it's awesome. The food is unbelievable. The service is friendly and top bar. The drinks are the bomb. The atmosphere is great. I was very happy both times. I would go back again in a minute! And definitely ask James to be your server. He was the best server ever last night. I think I might have had the best filet mignon of my life at this place last night. The grilled lobster is great. The seared scallops are the bomb. I highly recommend it.”

“A fantastic experience. I really felt inclined to write this review to discuss how phenomenal of a server Jake is (give this man a raise). I have certain food allergies and very rarely encounter servers that ask their guests about this before ordering. He asked about it right away and made sure to offer the best choices that were safe for me. On top of this, he checked in on our table multiple times to make sure everything was okay. I really appreciated his service, accommodation, and attention to detail. Will be returning soon!”

Paradise Dynasty (South Coast Plaza) 3333 Bristol Street, BLM, 1 Bloomingdale's, Costa Mesa Chinese • $$
3333 Bristol Street, BLM, 1 Bloomingdale's, Costa Mesa

“While visiting Bloomingdales for the first time, we saw a picture of this restaurant’s signature xiao long bao on their window. We decided to come back to try out the different flavors of these soup dumplings. We didn’t come once, but twice. First time we ordered the dumplings, wonton soup, wood ear, and pork chop. For our second trip, we were joined by a visitor from Taiwan who shared with us this restaurant group’s brand of over 10 eateries all over Asia . And how lucky we were to have stumbled upon their first North American restaurant here in OC. For our second trip we tried fried rice, noodle soup, tofu, cucumber, and ordered two deserts, black sesame mochi, and red bean glutinous rice roll. Both were freshly made, soft, easy bite and just the right amount of sweetness. Overall the portions are not huge, as you might expect, the pork chop has a soft skin, not the crispy Japanese style pork Katsu. Every dish was well prepared. They even elevated the taste of a simple fried-rice. The decor is upscale modern, the service was prompt. The server patiently explained their menu, their signature and popular dishes for us to try. When we couldn’t finish our meal, our leftovers were packed in an insulated bag. Next time we are in OC, we would definitely have a meal there again. If you do try their soup dumplings, remember to start with the original flavor, then work up the flavors: black truffle, cheese, crab, garlic, BbQ pork, Szechuan and finally kimchi. No, the kimchi is not too intense, you can do it.Vegetarian options: One person in our group is a vegetarian so we ordered, several items from their vegetarian menu-tofu, cucumber, wood ear.”

3333 Bristol St unit 2601, Costa Mesa

“3 companions and I dined at Populaire Modern Bistro in South Coast Plaza on 2/21/24 and I ordered the prix fixe menu. We bought a bottle of wine separately. The PF menu was $65 per person and well worth it. Everything was spectacular. The blending of flavors with the heirloom carrots was unique. I'm not normally a huge fan of tartare normally, but it was really flavorful. The beef cheek was melt-in-your-mouth tender and even the rice pudding - which I can normally take or leave - had some wonderful, unexpected flavors. Don't be fooled by the "bistro" label. This was definitely a cut above the normal bistro fare of steak and frites or Croque Monsieur. Our server was warm and efficient. She was friendly enough to stop and talk but took her cue from us, which was much appreciated. The location used to be part of the Corner Bakery chain. It was remodeled in part, but it's in South Coast Plaza mall so not a ton of atmosphere. Once you taste the food, you won't care!”

“During my recent visit to Habana, I was thoroughly impressed with the outstanding level of hospitality provided. The ambiance of the place immediately sets a welcoming tone, but what truly set our experience apart was the exceptional service. After a brief wait, the manager personally approached us, showcasing their attentive and caring approach towards guests. Not only did they ensure our comfort, but they also generously took care of an appetizer and drinks for us. This gesture of kindness and the manager’s effort to go above and beyond left a lasting impression on us. The food was delicious, and the overall atmosphere was delightful, but it was the warmth and professionalism of the staff, especially the manager, that made our visit unforgettable. I wholeheartedly recommend Habana to anyone looking for a dining experience that excels in both quality and hospitality. Five stars all the way!”

Costa Contemporary Kitchen 650 Anton Blvd, Costa Mesa Peruvian • $$

“This is a Peruvian restaurant with passion and execution. It merits a Michelin Bib Gourmand! The food is nothing short of astounding! This is from a New Yorker who has spent time in Peru and loves that cuisine. They have really recreated true Peruvian dishes with just the right mix of spices and really fresh fish and seafood. I could have been dining at a fine restaurant in Cuzco!! The Branzino scallop clam and shrimp mage with jasmine rice and spicy cilantro tomato broth was otherworldly! And the classic ceviche was just that, classic. The Barman was a genius with the Pisco Sour and the wines by the glass were good accompaniments to the food. My hope is that with more people discovering Costa, it may find a somewhat larger spot, and expand the wine by the glass choices. But I haven't had a more authentic and brilliantly prepared Peruvian meal outside the Sacred Valley!! A must go!!”

“I don't know why there isn't a long line out in front of this restaurant every night. It is a small restaurant in a location that is slightly off the restaurant beaten path. But it is Onotria, the same owner and chef as the previous iteration of Onotria that has been one of the most highly regarded restaurants in Orange County - and definitely on of the best Italian restaurants in the county for many years. The original Onotria took a hiatus for a few years but is back now in its new location with excellent food - perhaps now a little more innovative and modern. The service also excellent with a little more warmth and attentiveness thrown in, perhaps a consequence of the small venue. There were four of us, we all sampled each other's food and all agreed that it was outstanding as was the service. It's great to have Onotria back. It's definitely one of the "must try " Italian restaurants in The OC.”

“Ordered the two specials they have on that day. The first dish which is biscuits with gravy was amazing. You can choose your choice of protein (bacon, sausage, or chorizo) and we went with sausage. First of all, the biscuits were flaky, crumbly, and moist; topped with creamy gravy that had cubed bacon in it. I’m hoping that they will add their biscuits to their permanent menu. The second special dish is similar to one of their regular menu, the only diff is the protein that comes with it. This special comes with chorizo; meanwhile, the regular southern eggs benedict comes with grilled corned beef. The combination of chorizo, brioche, crispy potato cakes, poached eggs, and chipotle hollandaise was fabulous.”

Well now I was happy to see they have over the counter coffee. I was asking Matt how long has the counter been open and he said 12 years. And I was shocked as I always thought it's only a coffee roaster place. He said this is the normal reaction of folks coming in and ordering coffee. I know Wilson coffee is passionate about coffee roasting and having a cup of coffee feels like as fresh as I can get. You know where the beans are being roasted. Nestled off West 19th Street, this gem is part of a vibrant row dedicated to nightlife and entertainment. Upon entering, I was greeted by the comfortable buzz of a busy bar, not overwhelming but just lively enough. Shannon, the owner, was manning the bar and her welcoming presence added to the overall good vibes. The place is well-laid out with large wall booths and high tables, perfect for groups or solo visitors like me. A key feature for any sports enthusiast is the multiple TVs showcasing various sports, ensuring you don't miss out on any action. Moreover, the music set the tone - all thanks to an on-demand jukebox that lets patrons be the DJ. An unexpected highlight of my visit was crossing paths with a group celebrating a birthday. Their infectious joy and camaraderie were contagious, and they kindly brought me into their fold, turning a solo drink into a mini-celebration. I ventured in during the mid-afternoon, so the nighttime vibe remains a mystery. However, based on this experience, I'm eager to return with friends and uncover what Three-13 Bar has to offer as the night unfolds. “I've been to Knife Pleat half a dozen times for dinner and generally, it's been quite good to excellent depending on the day. Some dishes fail to impress but generally speaking most dishes are exciting, novel, and suffice to say extremely tasty. The desserts in particular have been incredibly creative and interesting. I also find it refreshing to get so many vegetables in a meal of this caliber!Wine pairings have been excellent as well, and the head bartender is very, very skilled. The service is good. All the servers have been incredibly friendly, but the service has felt very rigid and unrefined at various points. What I mean by this is that they are trying very, very hard to do things the "correct" way that it feels very unnatural at times and a bit starling, like when they circle around the table and all stand behind each guest, pause for 2 seconds, then place the dishes down at the same time. I do greatly respect their ambitions, (I think they're going for 2 stars), but this sort of thing I just find silly and unnecessary, even if it was a 2 star.My biggest complaint is just how outrageously priced it is. $295 for 6 courses is deep into 2-star pricing territory. You add in a wine pairing and the mandatory 23% service fee and you're looking at almost $600 per person.I would truly love nothing more than for them to grow into this price point, but as it stands, the meal is quite overpriced.”

“This restaurant had me hooked at fresh wasabi! In my experience only high end or serious sushi restaurants serve fresh wasabi. I have ordered here via Uber Eats at least 4 times in 3 weeks. The spicy tuna on crispy rice is addictive. Also ordered the 12 pc sashimi and it was fresh and delicious. Will try to eat live at restaurant. Highly recommended.”

“What a gem! Had to go to Costa Mesa for a work conference and discovered this place (thanks to other reviews), and it did not disappoint from service to the food!!!We started with some nigiri pieces. The rice and the fish were prepared with care. The aburi salmon belly just melted in our mouths. A table next to us, who seemed to be loyal & frequent customers ordered 50 pieces! Then we proceeded to bento lunches (such great value) and ate until our hearts content. Great combos from teriyaki, udon, karage (perfectly fried juicy pieces of chicken) and donkatsu to sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi combos as well.Everyone from the chefs, service members and other customers were happy and laughing during our meals. This was a tough meal to beat since every other business lunch and dinner afterwards seemed to pale in comparison. Our friends went back before their flights instead of free lunches provided by the convention.Vegetarian options: There are salads, veggie rolls and non-meat noodle dishes, although ask about the broth if they use fish sauce or flakes.Parking: It is at the end of a open strip mall so plenty of parking usually.”

The omakase was one of the best I've ever had, we got so lucky that the owner was there and cooked for us! The fish was so fresh and the service was great too. It's a small restaurant so they are very attentive. The only thing to know is that the parking lot is small and fills up quickly, so get there early to find parking or Uber/lyft!”

“The food here was so tasty and good. I can't eat chicken so I can't comment on most of the skewers, but the tongue was very good. . My friend and I also shared one of their pots. I think it was beef, similar to Chinese clay pot but ingredients seemed more premium- fresh, light, and delicious than typical Chinese clay pot. My friend called to make a reservation, as space is limited. I'm told that once they reach the limit, no more seating for that evening. No walk-ins, at least not when we were there on a weekend. Looking forward to coming back to try the rest of the menu.”

“The wife and I tried Hole Smokes last night. We tried a couple apps and the Tray 4 Two so that we could get a few different meats to try. The fried pickles were really good with both the chipotle sauce and with ranch. I liked the chipotle better. The honey glazed burnt ends were ok- very tender and juicy, but lacked a bit of flavor. For the meats we had a sausage link, brisket and tritip. The link was good- wife really liked it a lot. The brisket was maybe the best we've had- very tender, juicy and some good flavor. The tritip was very good and had a beautiful smoke ring. For the sides, we tried the cornbread cake, brussel sprouts, and French fries. Was surprise that the cornbread was cold. We liked the flavor, and my wife liked the cinnamon butter (i preferred no butter, but I'm not as big a cinnamon fan as my wife). The sprouts were great and loved the glaze that was on them. The fries were really good as well. Looking forward to bringing the kids back and trying a few more things. Service was great and on top of things for refills, sauce, etc.”

On top of that… each dish was incredibly delicious so hats off to the cooks. We also had the pleasure of having Paul be our waiter while he had a new hire shadowing whose name was Bryan. Bryan was respectful and observant on how Paul did his service so props to him.As for Paul… Sevilla is blessed to have such a genuine and engaging employee who gave amazing food and drink recommendations… always knew when to check in with us and when to let us be… he walked the line incredibly well and thanks to his service, Sevilla’s food and lastly the business owners decision to have such an amazing happy hour policy - my wife and I will be coming back routinely now.Thank you Sevilla for a lovely dining experience!”

From a Po’Boy that reminds you of Nawlins’, to an unchopped salad that really hits the spot during artists hour, you cannot go wrong dropping in for especially a drink. The mixology in this place is insane with old school drinks to new school libations made with your favorite booze. The music is usually beyond on point and is a good break from some of the pretentious spots around it (menos Garabaldi…si sabes tu sabes jaja).I always drop in to host friends or fam from out of town as I wish I could be here every week! “First off, this restaurant serves kaiseki, their omakase is not sushi. Kaiseki focuses on the flow and art of Japanese cuisine, don't come here thinking you'll have uni, toro, crab handroll, etc.. it looks like some of their courses have sashimi but I didn't try the omakase since I don't really enjoy kaiseki. I tried a few and just didn't like any of them, it's too much art for me.We came for the a5 wagyu sandwich and it did not disappoint. The wagyu was deep fried to perfect and just melts as you bit into it with a bit of crisp ones from the toast and breading. Definitely try this.We also ordered the pork katsu and it was a very pleasant surprise. It was super juicy and tender and had a light crispy coating. It's better katsu than the katsu specialty restaurant next door.We also got the crab and ikura clay pot rice. It was good.We ordered a few appetizers and sashimi that didn't really stand out to us.The maple ice cream was also another pleasant surprise. Really good. We've already came back for the wagyu sandwich and pork katsu, they were both as good as our first visit.Decent parking lot, there's more spots in the back.”
