the best sandwich and salad I‘ve ever had. Add dried yellow peaches and sunflower seeds in the salad is brilliant, I never had salad like this before in China. today is my first day in U.S., this meal totally saved my day. and the owner is very friendly, thank god he understood what I said since this is the first time I ordered food in English ?coffee is also very good

No way the food is 4.5 star, I ordered a porochetta sandwich today, there is no crispy skin as it mentioned in the menu, and the pork belly has 0 flavor ewwwwwwww, it’s the worst thing

I went to Skappo Merkato for lunch and asked for a Torino salad to go. The salad should have bacon, but alas, there was no bacon. I called and the store said that there was no bacon so they replaced it with porchetta. I was not told that when I ordered, and I still paid the full price! Sad!

The cutest Italian market. We bought the biscotti and granitas. Will definitely be back for sandwiches and cannoli. The nicest owner. Loved it!

This shop is a little slice of Italian sandwich heaven right on orange street. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. They also have salads, soup, and fresh Italian donuts, which are just divine. Fresh made to order coffees are available as well. Outdoor seating is available. The owner is one of the friendliest, nicest, and welcoming people I have ever met, and gave us tons of suggestions since we were from out of town. He also owns the Italian restaurant around the corner, Skappo. We will definitely be back! Thanks for the amazing experience!

My only disappointment with Merkato is that I didn’t eat here until my last day in New Haven. The food is delicious and the owner was very friendly. Wonderful experience.I had the Porchetta sandwich and it was the best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. The bread was fresh and the porchetta was slightly crisp, juicy and totally delicious.I also had a coffee granita which was awesome. It is my favorite coffee drink and are hard to find. He made mine perfectly.

Family-owned business, super nice staff, high-quality ingredients in the sandwiches and salads, couldn't ask for a nicer place to get a casual lunch.

We took a ride into New Haven to get some good Italian food and desserts. We stopped at Skappos for some lunch. We had Parma with fig spread and goat cheese on a ciabatta bread, deeeelicious. For dessert we had fresh made cannoli and biscotti, with a hot fresh made cappuccino.I would highly recommend if your passing through New Haven stop in.

This place DOES NOT MISS. Hands down my favorite lunch spot in New Haven. I usually get the Porchetta, Roma, or the Parma sandwich with a coffee and biscotti. The family who owns the place is lovely - very friendly and always create a very welcoming environment. Big, big fan!!

The entire experience was a very pleasant surprise! The food was authentic... uncomplicated, balanced, fresh, and delicious. The place is cozy, and the atmosphere very inviting. You feel right at home. It was our first time there on Saturday night. We are looking forward to our next visit very soon.

The porketta sandwich I had was unfortunately mostly fat and grizzle. Disappointing given that it costs $13.00
