Tortilleria La Michoacana Reviews

This place used to have the best Mexican food in New Haven - the carnitas and the thick, slightly yellow salsa verde were especially good - but now it's closed! I'm going to be seriously bummed if those carnitas are gone forever...

Okay so this is the best Mexican food I've found so far for the price. My first attempt to visit this place was a bust as they were closed at 6 on a Wednesday. I went back a few weeks later on a sat and had success. I agree with previous reviews: this place, folks, is the real deal. A large dance hall-style eating area, it's certainly not fancy, but the tortillas are incredible. The tomatillo sauce that accompanies the chips is awesome, but the tacos are the reason to come. Following the advice of other yelpers, I tried the el pastor, carne asada, carnitas and the lengua; the el pastor and the carnitas are the best, hands down. Fantastic meal, washed down with a beer, for less than $10.
