The food is overall good if they actually make it as the menu states or as requested. I'm allergic to tomatoes and three times they have messed up the order even after I have physically seen them write no tomatoes on the order form. This last time I couldn't wait for them to redo the order so requested a refund which I never received. The "manager" is the owners daughter who plays music louder than a night club and has poor customer service skills. Allergies are nothing to mess with and any reputable establishment should go out of their way to accommodate the needs. As much as we like their fish and shrimp tacos we will take our business else where.

When we visit our family in Ct we can't wait to go to Las Americas. The visit this past Friday was our last. It had nothing to do with the food but the way we were treated. We did get there close to closing but the staff let us in. The music was so loud we thought we were in a club. We ordered guac and the bowl was banged down on the table. My son in law wanted a margarita since it was Margarita Friday but was told he could not have one due to the time. Maybe yes-maybe no. We could sense the urgency for the young woman to close so we bolted down our food. My son in law ordered 4 tacos. He got 3. When I went to pay the bill I reminded the waitress that and she snapped at me, "I know." It was loud enough to be heard by my family over the music. We were polite and eager to have a good meal. Perhaps the waitress should have been polite and made our experience better.

A little taste of the Center Americas food

Located in the former building that housed Taqueria El Amigo (no, it is NOT the same business or owners) this new spot is doing some excellent work since its October opening. I happened to stop in the other night while looking for a good Mexican food fix. At first I thought it was the previous business as the street sign has not changed. I'd say they need to fix that so people aren't confused. Yes, you will find all the usual Mexican favorites such as tacos, burritos and the larger Mexican dishes. But there are some other Latin American foods on the menu that are not easy to find. One of these is the El Salvadoran street food pupusas. A pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran dish of a thick corn tortilla stuffed with a savory filling. This particular version was filled with melted cheese and shredded pork and was excellent. And at $2.50 per pupusa it makes for a reasonably priced appetizer as a max of two will likely fill you up. Except for Valencia Luncheria in Norwalk I haven't been able to find these anywhere else in Connecticut. Now I have a spot closer to home and it is a very good thing. I will return here often just for this dish. I also tried three of their Mexican street tacos which are also priced at $2.50 each. There are a variety of meat fillings to choose from including Mexican chorizo and lengua. They also have fish options which, while becoming more common these days, can still be a bit tough to find. I chose the carne asada, al pastor pork and chorizo sausage options. You get them in double layered small corn tortillas and they are filled with the meat along with plenty of chopped onion and cilantro. That's it. It's simple but the taste melds quite well. You can then add any of the three salsas they give you with your crispy tortilla chips when they seat you. The three salsas were all excellent. There is a red tomato salsa that is mild, a green jalapeno that has some kick and a chipotle version that is smoky but not overly so. I think it had some habanero pepper in it but the owner said no. Hmmm. You also have the option to make it a platter by adding refried beans and rice. They have a liquor license so they offer a variety of mixed drinks such as margaritas as well as Modelo beer options. If alcohol isn't your thing there are plenty of Mexican Jarritos sodas and Mexican Coke to choose from. The prices here are a steal. It is extremely affordable and the food quality is top of the line. Check them out if you are in the area.
